  • Nice shifting

  • @jtaylornate Thanks.

  • How many miles does your ej18t got? I have around 170k on my impreza brighton coupe and it still runs fine. Would it be a bad idea to turbo the car with high miles?

  • @Scoobypedro420 My EJ18T had around 80K miles and it had good compression. It may not be a good idea in your case because with that many miles, it could be already leaking oil and would need a refresh. Adding a turbo to a high mileage engine may need more attention than an engine with less miles.

  • nice shifting man

  • @ShadowXMoncho Thanks.

  • @tubejoe69 btw man, what are your mods on your car, cause i have a 1.8 impreza l as well, i like what youve done to yours

  • @ShadowXMoncho See my video info above and click on the double arrows pointing down. There's a link next to "See my build:" Just make sure your engine is in good health, (i.e, no leaks, good compression, no abnormalities and such, etc.)

  • @tubejoe69 thanks alot man, one more question, how many miles were on your motor when oyu got it?

  • @ShadowXMoncho I bought in '05 and it had only 5X,XXX miles on it. It was owned by an old lady that barely drove it. I boosted it in the summer of '08 with 72,XXX miles. When I got rid of it, it had about 95,XXX miles and it was still running strong.

  • @tubejoe69 oh geez, my car has like 150 k miles lol. i dont think itll be a good idea to tune a motor with that many miles, unless i full rebuild, which will cost alot of money. i think ill just get an exhaust and intake for it. i just wanna here that boxer sound when i drive. i guess itll do till i have enough money to buy an actuall wrx or sti. lol

  • @ShadowXMoncho Yeah 150K is asking for trouble. Although most will say it's a waste of time and money, I don't mind rebuilding an EJ18 for boost. CP is willing to make forged pistons if you give up your stockers. I'd like to see how much this little engine can put out when using the right parts. So far I have walked on a friend's '03 WRX wagon with a 7cm2 FP Green turbo (he'll admit it, sadly) and stayed 1 car length behind another friends '02 WRX with an EJ207 motor and GT3071R.

  • @tubejoe69 really, how much do you think youll charge for an engine rebuild or forged pistons?

  • @ShadowXMoncho Not sure. I can't do it right now because I'm too busy, lol. That's why I don't have my car anymore. My wife and I had a talk about getting rid of the car to deal with other priorities.

  • hay man u still runnin ur stock flywheel or a liter one? Startin on mine in a few!

  • @jamesbaird01 I'm running a Fidanza 11lb flywheel. Glad to hear you're about to get into one.

  • Nice work bro, how much did all the upgrades cost? visual/engine/accessories all up? how long did it take?

  • The car was $1500, roughly $4,500ish for power mods, suspension/brakes/wheels was about $3000, visual and paint was $2000.

Altogether estimated - $11K... daily driven and kills STI's!!

  • Oh, and its supposed to have taken a month but I burnt a few wires. So that ended up being 4 months, lol.

  • oh nice :) this hell inspires me, i got a ej20, do they have turbo pistons do you know? i heard that with ej18 you can put turbos on em, this vid proves em wrong, how did you do it?

  • No turbo pistons, although you can get some custom pistons made. The entire shortblock is completely stock. The secret is to use EJ22 turbo or non-turbo heads, they'll lower compression below the factory 9.5:1 compression ratio to run boost.

  • ohh yeah i see, ill look into it. your ej18t inspires me haha. im looking to make mine a project aswell, i wanna kill sti's or pretty much the v8s here in perth australia. when i get the cash ill notify you :) thanks for the help

  • also whats that device above your avcr?

  • APEXi S-AFC Neo, piggyback for fuel control.

  • ok cool man, ill search rs25(i think thats the place)

this is gonna sound silly but i havnt found what im looking for, which is either a 1.8 or 2.5 awd coupe. i have a pretty fast high comp 4age corolla gt-s that im trying to trade for one to, justa stock one, but still no luck, and nothing but rs's and automatics and ugly dinky grandma coupes and sedans on CL. hopefully ill have one soon.

  • sweet.. since i cant afford to use all the turbo components that you have, im curious if there is a "junkyard build" hack where i could practically locate and use the stock turbo system/manifolds/ecu combination from another turbo ej setup, and just tune in the fuel w a piggyback and run around 10 psi?

  • There are a ton of these builds on Subaru forums. I don't think you can use a USDM WRX ecu on an older model USDM Impreza L/RS unless you transfer its intake manifold and a whole lotta other stuff. Keep the stock NA ecu and tune it from there with a piggyback to keep it simple. 10psi is doable on a good tune, depending what turbo and engine combination you have.

  • wow...so you're vf34 turbo on a STOCK n/a FWD tranny??? if the 02-07 wrx trannies are glass i cant imagine how you're running 300whp on tthat fwd tranny? are they stronger than awd wrx ones or something? you bang gears hard too!

  • Whoa, not 300whp , its 255whp (300 at the crank). FWD trannies can take more abuse than RS/WRX trannies. I found somewhere that FWD axle thickness falls between RS/WRX and STI. I have to shift fast because the steering wheel goes crazy when the boost kicks in, lol.

  • even with 255whp i just cant believe your little old fwd/ n/a tranny is doing better than wrx trannies! but i can see how thats possible though, FWD results in less drivetrain stress and shock loading with the shock sent to the wheels breaking traction instead of the tranny in awd.

  • Pretty much true. I used to own an '08 Impreza hatch, and when I drove it the same way I did in this vid, it didn't sound too happy. It didn't break at all, but I just had to stop it, lol. People say my Clutchmasters stage 3 clutch will destroy my transmission, when they don't realize that a WRX/STI stage 3 and a FWD Impreza L stage 3 is completely different units.

  • hey man, are you using one of those 02-etc wrx front strut tower bars? if so, how did u get it to fit correctly, or was it a direct hack?

  • Nope, its an ebay piece. Made for GC chassies. $50 shipped last I checked about a year and a half ago.

  • hey tubejoe69 what tranny are you using with that ej22t?...The reason i asked I have a 93 impreza 2wd and my front seal just went out gear oil drips on exhaust and smell bad...no replacment around but only awd tranny's... Can I use a awd tranny and only have the front half shafts connected only and the rest deleted like the rear diff and etc?

  • I'm still running my stock FWD tranny. Why not just do AWD altogether since you're down there?

  • umm, i can feel that gas pedal, very nice! mad props for u again sir! mine is turning out better every week.

  • That car sounded like it left the road. all 1200 pounds of it...Glad to see it is still running, I watched the previous videos. I am curious to

ea82 vs that crank cracker...playing non oe games is fun to some...

  • The front wheels actually did, as soon as I got on it, lol. I'm glad it's still running too, ain't nothing wrong with hybrid builds, they're fun. I agree!!

  • LOVE IT !

    5/5

    one Bad Ass 1.8L !

  • 2.2L intake manifold swap coming soon...

  • i have a 2.2L Intake that i am selling if you need to buy one Send me a PM then we can work things out.

    -John

  • Thanks, already have one. Its a non-EGR'd one too, so I can flip it 180* if I choose to without having an EGR port blocking the way in front.

  • ok kool.

    figured I'd Offer.

Keep up the good work. really love your Sube.

  • Thanks for the offer.

  • Sounding Great!

  • 5th CV boot ripped during this filming...that doesn't sound great. I just changed it.
