  • Im very new to crocheting, i had a bit of trouble at first but you did an amazing job explaining everything so well. thank you so much for the step by step instructions.

  • @Deidara0226 You are doing great to start out on an advanced technique.

  • I am so greatful to you. I've recently picked up crochet as a habit I'm loving it. Thank you for posting your videos for the public. You're a kind hearted and unselfish soul:-))

  • @scsandy2002 You are so kind. Thank you.

  • I tried to make this hat but it seemed like the size is very small but it could be me. I can't seem to make a ramie for an adult to save my life. They always comE out tiny, help???

  • Teres, what is the size of the hat?

  • Great Video, how long does it usually take to make one? and how much yarn?

  • This is not a beginner project at all. It is very hard to follow because you dont actually explain what you are doing. And if I already knew all the stiches needed I probably would not be looking for a tutorial on something as basic as a beanie.

  • @word1902 There is an annotation link in the video that leads to the beginner crochet stitches for people like yourself who are new to crochet. The annotation link is not meant to imply anything about the tutorial.

  • I made the hat using the top part of this video and the bottom part using your basketweave square or scarf video with four per section. Looks great and feels so soft w/Caron Simply Soft yarn in gray and fusha (spell check). I also used your video 'crochet hat with brim. So, I used three of your video's to make one hat.I have started on a matching scarf about 6 inces wide, 4/4.don't know how long it will be depends on the amount of yarn I have.Hope its emough.Wish I could send a picture.

  • I can't get any of the beanies I crochet to actually form into a cap. What am I doing wrong? I've been following this video exactly as I should, and I'm not a beginner at crocheting either. Any advice?

  • I'm basically a beginner and it was hard for me to follow this, I almost don't feel like you were iterating it enough, but I eventually figured it out... almost, either way, thank you for this video, I've been trying to figure how to do this.

  • @cosmogoniesify Since you mention being a beginner, this is not a great project for a beginner since there are advanced techniques. I recommend you learn the basic stitches and then projects like this will make more sense.

  • On the second row of front and back post double crochet what is the purpose of doing the Double crochet in the first four?

  • very good tutorial, sort of got lost on the row 3 but manage to figure out what I was doing wrong. great hat and again great tutorial.

  • Wow that basketweave was fantastic.

  • thanks 4 ur video i have learn a lot :) u explain so clear:)

  • @dianak211 Thank you very much

  • am Brazilian and I love its works, is with a little of difficulty that I copy its crochets because of the language. But in this cap in special I had more difficulty therefore its fingers had been in the front for diverse times and as I am inexperienced in crochet I did not obtain to understand. Thanks a lot.

  • do you have a tutorial with smaller treads ? when i tried its sooo small LOL ..

  • One of the best patterns I have followed. Many family and friends kept their heads warm this winter.... Thanks Teresa

  • @727Pickle Thank you!

  • yay....glad I found u...I know some basic crochet by watching my mum do n i don't know how to rea patterns n this totally helps me.....

  • this didn't help at all she goes from the little circle and the single crochet to half double crochet without even explaining how to do a hdc or even transitioning

  • @Grrlwhocantshaddup This is not a beginner crochet project. I will send you the beginner playlist.

  • @Grrlwhocantshaddup it is a bit advanced, and she doesn't start with sc she starts right away with hdc

  • I started it off like you said.. but as i keep going it still looks the same size:/ like for a baby.. lol

  • I dont Know where to start after i do Thesc then front i guess coz I'm just a beginner.

  • Thank you Teresa, You are very thorough. I am learning a lot with your step by step teaching instruction. Sometimes it comes out smaller in size and kept on undoing them but I made some projects for my family and friends. I love the designs. Hope you continue teaching us. You are great. Thanks again!!! Trina

  • @barbarilla9 When you find your project working up smaller, you can use a larger crochet hook to increase the size. I am going to continue teaching crochet here on YouTube.

  • wow, looks easy enuf...I'm gonna try it now and let you knw how it turns out tomorrow. Thanks for all the great video's.

  • @Videofly1 You are welcome.

  • Great video. I made a cap for my son. It has turned out to be a very beautiful. Thanks Teresa. I just need a great easy poncho video for my next project now.

  • @shivanidimri Great to hear that it turned out so well!

  • mine is way too small. wish i knew a kid to give this to, 'cause it's super cute. :|

    love your videos, always!

  • @pavonibus Try using a larger crochet hook and larger yarn.

  • Could you make some more "male" hat/beanie videos? I've been making just the plain beanie and this basketweave but am not sure what other variety I could add that would keep the hat/beanie masculine.

thanks for you vids, without you, I wouldn't be crocheting!

  • you are great,i'm your big fan.love your tutorials.

  • @The0sha Thank you! I saw your image and througt you were from the state of Georgia but now I see it is the country of Georgia!

  • i think that all your crochet thinks is amazing.

you are help us very mach.

i am from greece and my english are little mess .

can i asked something do you have a video for a easy bag?

    ok thanks again for everything

  • @vvoulaki Your English is great! I will send you a link for a bag!

  • Hi Can you remake this video going slower and telling what's top and between plx? thanks in advance!

  • @umiryuzaki90 I will keep this video in mind for a remake. I have been uploading them on my second channel.

  • @umiryuzaki90 You can always pause the video and re-watch the segments you need longer with. This way it's like Teresa's giving you one on one lessons! Thank you thank you.

  • hi thanks for the video....its so easy to follow....

i have a question how to i make a bigger hat of these design..i follow ur count bt its cuming out quite small

  • what do you mean by the top and between? I can't see what you are doing that clear when you say top and then between. I hope you can explain thanks! tutorials are great! :)

  • hello I am Andrea I am 9yrs I LOVE CROCHETING it is hard though.thanks a lot!!!

  • hello I am Andrea I am 9yrs I LOVE CROCHETING it is hard though.

  • @Ag10ish I do have many beginner tutorials. This is not a cap I would recommend for a beginner. I will send you the link.

  • I followed your directions and after three attempts, I made the hat in one night!!! I also followed your instructions and made a crocheted flower for the side. I LOVE it!!! Thanks so much!!!

  • @meteachu01 Sounds like your cap turned out really nice!!

  • How do I make this beanie for a newborn? Do I start smaller at the begining?

  • I have just started my circular hat, but wish I had chosen lighter yarn, it is going well though-I think the lighter color yarn woud be easier to see the spaces to chrochet into----again, great precise and clear directions, all of your videos and directions are so clear, thank you for your reply

  • @jooneybuggy You may want to try making looser stitches, so you can see where to put your stitches.

  • Wow. Wow. You are great!!!

    Very clear directions

  • @jooneybuggy Thank you.

  • Hi...I was woundering if u knew how to make a slouchy hat? if so can u sen it to me in simple form through e-mail or youtube mail?

  • i love this hat. you made it look so easy. gonna try it later tonight.

  • @cheschiiire Thank you.

  • @tjw1963 I finished it! It doesn't look half as good as yours, haha, but I also tried your puff-stitch hat and your shell hat and I love how those two turned out. Thank you so much!

  • Theresa, I love love love your videos. Could you do a video on how to crochet a newborn sleeping cap?

  • i love watching ur videos, but i have to say that ur left thumb often covers the parts i have trouble with :S

  • i tried to make it bt mine has become very small n even doesn't fit for a baby...can u tell me de instructions to make it bigger...

  • hey can u teach how to make crochet Celestine plzzzzzz plzzzzz plzzzzzzzz

  • @sana959 What is a Celestine?

  • @tjw1963 Celestine is a dodecahedron star that is a tree topper or stuffed toy.

  • i tried to make it but i kept getting confused and gave up.

  • @DestineyRoberts I have a playlist with a lot of other hats. Many of them are easier than this one.

  • @DestineyRoberts this is more of an intermediate crochet pattern. You can find some great beginner pattterns in her videos, or just google free Crochet hat patterns for some easier ones. Once you've had some practice with the easier stitches, this will be no problem. ^^

  • the video does not play to end

  • @natasjja99 28:06 is the end of the video. I just got it to play to 28:06. You will find a link to the written instructions in the video details below the video if you need further instructions.

  • that's so amazing! I'd love to have a go but it seems a bit difficult (esp as I'm just learning). What do you honestly say the difficulty of this is?

  • @MarryMeSyn Once you have an understanding of the basic stitches. It is not that difficult. Keep practicing the basic stitches and you will be ready to try this in the near future.

  • i tried to make this hat but failed maybe cuz i just started crocheting like 3 months ago or so..anyways i just want to know if i earflaps can be added to this hat?

  • This is the most comfortable hat I have ever owned, let alone made. Thank you so much for these videos :)

  • @Rubakis You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • So after i hit about round 5, i just kept going back post front post, do i still have to slip stitch at the end of each round ? b/c after roudn 5 ive just been crocheting in a circle :O

  • Thanks Teresa.. :)

  • It appear that my hat is for 3 year old or something like that.. i want to make it bigger.. suggestion please..:)

  • The cap is for an adult size head. I would suggest that you use a larger crochet hook and/or larger yarn. You may naturally crochet tight, which will make the cap turn out smaller.

  • You are either using a a wool that is too thin, or a hook that is too small, or a combination of both. Make sure you follow the directions for the size and type of wool, as well as the hook you will be using. If I have a yarn that is smaller thant he pattern calls for, and I really want to use it, I just adjust the pattern by adding a few more rounds of increases before staying at the number that will form it into a hat shape that fits my head. Hope that helps. :)

  • When I am attempted to make this hat, it's not turning to an actual hat, but a basket weaved round circle. What went wrong? I followed everything to the T and I get a basket weave round circle instead of a hat. Please reply.

  • If the cap is continuing to get larger, that would lead me to believe that you are still increasing. The written instructions are posted on my crochet blog.

  • I am going to learn how to do this!

  • So i was wondering when you alternate between the front/back post crochets, when you double crochet do you double crochet in between the stitches or do we crochet like regular double crochet

  • They are all front post or back post double crochet.

  • Thank you so so SO much for your videos. I just made this hat for my son. It's black with a camo band on rounds 8-10. It came out so cute! I've been sizing down your other adult hats for my daughter too. You're awesome! Thanks again!

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you.

  • Very COOL!!!

  • Can u send me the beginner playlist too?

  • Yes, I will.

  • thanks...u r the best

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • I've just recently started knitting and crocheting looks so much harder!

  • I would recommend that you focus on the basic stitches first. I would not say crochet is any harder than knitting but there are a lot of variations to the stitches.

  • Ok So I tried this hat three times and it's epic failure every time. In row 5 I'm having a bit of trouble with the first stitch and it's becoming like 60 stiches. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any advice?

  • @nessalyn02 There will only be 4 stitches in each segment so count real carefully.

  • Hello Theresa! I have just finished making this hat and I love it. I want to make longer and also add a band for a more snug fit. How do I do so? Thanks!

  • You can continue making it as long as you want to with the same set of stitches. For the band, you could use single crochet and a smaller size crochet hook.

  • I hold my yarn and hook differently!!! I guess I'll have to practice

  • If you are comfortable holding your yarn the way you do, then you should continue to hold it that way. There are many different ways to hold the crochet hook and yarn.

  • can u make the hat bigger?

  • how could i crochet a checkerboard hat, please help. thanks

  • yeah if u find out let me know. cuz i been tryna find a way how too.

  • You would just need to change the colour of the yarn after each "square of checker" is done. (so you would be left with a lot of changing thread)

  • hi teresa

I made the basketweave hat but I need a matching scarf...I checked many pattern but they don't look exactly like the hat, even yr pattern here

could u pls give a pattern for a matching scarf......thanks alot

  • Thnx so much for showing rnd by rnd. I really appreciate the attention to detail. Slow-mo really helps, too. Started yesterday and finished today, took about 3-4 hrs. Didn't realize this was a beanie til rnd 16 when I saw how short it was. I actually continued for a total of 22 rnds (that includes 2 rnds of contrasting trim) as I wanted more of a winter hat, and on the last 4 rnds I skipped every other dc and kept my post stitches lined up to make it rounder and more snug. Turned out great!! :o)

  • Hia, thank you for these videos, they are wonderful :) i am wondering, as i cant find any, but do u have this basket stitch for mittens for a 3 year old? i am currently doing a scarf for my 2.5 year old son, then ill do this hat, and then hopefully i can do some sort of mittens to match before end of october, as it gets verrrrry cold here in Scotland. thank yoou very much again :)

  • hi teresa' im one of your follower , i made a baby dress out of your shell stich variation , im hoping if you can do a video of a baby sweater out of single stich . with a writen instruction . thanks a lot

  • Hi Teresa, I love your video and I've followed it for this past 4 days. I got 2 crochet hat from your instruction here. Thanks so much. I will be learning more from you through your other videos. You're a star!!

  • I appreciate the comment, thank you. :)

  • You should get paid for your doing It's very nice of you to take your time helping us crochet. Thanks alot!

  • Ooh! thanks for the video, i've been doing my basketweave all wrong.

  • The basketweave can be done in different ways. You may have been doing a variation.

  • Video isn't downloading this morning...

  • What do you mean it is not downloading?

  • All of your other wonderful videos start up as soon as I click on the link. This one shows as running, but time doesn't change. I used your videos over Memorial Day to learn how to crochet. Thank you!!!!

  • Click on the HQ or HD to the lower right of the video. It may help it start up faster. It could be the time of day and a bogged down Internet.

  • Thank you!

  • Hi,i made this one,and its really look good, but it does not fit me,:( ?i used a

4.0mm hook,i have 56 stiches. so i thought of doing it again, will i change the hook gauge?pls help thanks.

  • I used a 5.5mm size hook so that is probably why the hat does not fit you.

  • yea kinda

  • I would suggest working on a hat that would be for a beginner. I will send you a link and send you the playlist for beginner crochet. Later on down the road you can come back to this cap and be successful.

  • could you post the link in the sidebar? :^)

  • Hello

Would you be a able to send me the link also. Your instructions are excellent but I want to begin slowly and not get frustrated with advanced projects.

    Thanks

  • I will send you the beginner playlist.

  • i still dont get it

  • Are you new to crocheting?

  • how you got 28 mins worth..thought youtube's limit was 10mins

  • There are benefits involved with being a Youtube Partner.

  • Thank you so much for this. I made it for a friend who had to do playground duty over winter and messed about adding a crochet "flower" on the side. She was over the moon so I'm showing her how to crochet her own hat now. Once again, many thanks.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • i dont like that kind of string its so hard

  • There are many alternative yarns that will work.

  • thank you so much Teresa! I finished my first hat thanks to you!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thank you for this pattern, I am 34 now and have been crocheting since I was 7, My grandmother taught me, she was concerned about teaching her grand"son" to crochet so she called my father who was a very wise man, and asked for his permission...He replied "If Rosie Grier can Needlepoint, then my son can learn to crochet!" Thank You for your videos!

  • You are welcome. Your story is great and it is always wonderful to hear from men that crochet.

  • Thats really cool im 16 and my mom and my step mom taught me how to crochet last year and its really nice although after a few hours of it my eyes hurt so much! haha when i told my dad i wanted to learn how to crochet he was like "no, my son is not going to crochet why cant you join a sport instead like football or soccer" but then after a while he got used to it and doesnt really care

  • Thank you for this pattern and video!! I just finished the hat and it looks great! Going to donate it to a local homeless shelter...thanks again Teresa!

  • I just started to crochet. I appreciate all of the time you put into making these videos and posting them on here. They have been VERY helpful in helping me learn!! Thank you!

  • You are welcome. Thank you for your comment.

  • Learn to make baby beanies by watching tjw's videos and have had so much fun making them.Saw this basket weave and wondered if I used a smaller needle would it be small enough for a baby. YES!!!! Used a size G hook and made a beautiful basket weave baby beanie.

    Thank you Teresa!!!!:)

  • I appreciate your feedback and comments. Thank you. :)

  • is basketweave stitch pattern different from relief double crochet? if not, do you know how to do this pattern?

  • I have never heard of relief double crochet. It is common for crochet stitches to have several different names for the same stitch.

  • Thank you very much!!

    :))

  • You are welcome. :)

  • yes, i did see the written instructions and r3have 30 hdc and R4 have 56 hdc. but its still so confusing to me especially in R4.

  • Round 4 is an increase round so you are doing stitches between the previous stitches to evenly distribute them around the crown of the cap.

  • Hi.. i seem to be having trouble with round 3 and round 4. so, is R3 to have 30 (1/2hdc) and R4 to have 56 hdc. does that mean in R4, the last 4 stitches i only do 1hdc each to make it to 56 stitches because i see in the video that you only do the last 2 stitch with 1 hdc and to me it counts to 58 stitches.. what am i doing wrong?.. or is R3 to have 26 hdc instead of 30? please help me..

  • The written instructions are posted on my crochet blog. You will find the number of stitches for each round in the instructions.

  • I was planning on crocheting this hat, but I didn't see a picture of the finished product. I was very curious to see a picture of the beanie all finished.

  • It is on my crochet blog. The link is to the right of the video under "More Info".

  • yea i made my first beanie now i can slow down on the blankets

  • What a beautiful beanie! Mine turned out great thanks to your great instructions and video. You are the best! :) Will you be posting a scarf to match? If not, could you just post the basics to get started? Thanks!

  • I do have the basic instructions for getting started posted. I will send you the video link.

  • Thank you!

  • Hi,

I love your videos! I am just a little confused here by what you mean by go "in between the stitches" in round 2. Does it have to be done that way? I think I might have not done it in between and want to know if need to start over now. Thank you! :)

  • Thank you. What you are doing is wrapping the yarn around the post of the previous stitch instead of through the top part of the stitch. Between means by the posts of each stitch, which is between. If you don't do it that way, you won't get the raised basketweave or post stitch effect. The raised effect comes from how you place your yarn around the previous stitch. You are manipulating your yarn to make a basketweave look.

  • Oh I see. Thank you again! Love your site and videos. :)

  • Thanks for the video and instructions. I'm going to make this hat during my Christmas vacation!!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Its very cold here in california. This time my family is warmer.Thank you for all those wonderful videos.I'll definitely try this hat its looks thick tight & pretty.Thank you again!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Thanks for another wonderful hat design :)

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Looks great thanks

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Always love your work! Thanks for the video again^^

  • You are welcome. :)

  • I love the hat, Teresa. I like the fact that it looks nice and thick. Will you be printing the pattern for us?

  • Thank you. Yes, I have instructions written on paper so I will be posting them on my crochet blog.

  • I have the instructions posted now.
