  • If you really want a hoot, check out a track called "Seduction" on the "Space:1999" Year 2 Soundtrack. It was written by Derek Wadsworth in 1976 for a dance sequence in an episode titled "One Moment Of Humanity" and ( by the admission of Wadsworth, himself ) is based directly on this track. The only difference is the exact melody...otherwise it's a complete rip-off ! I'm surprised there was never a lawsuit.

  • Those lush orchestra sounds on this track? Polyphonic synths hadn't been out yet. They're all overdubs, painstakingly crafted by brother Joe. Simply amazing.

  • One of my favorite albums of all time.

  • 1975 Detroit. I was 10 years old and caught this song and artist (thanks WJZZ). Storm At Sunup is the first vinyl LP I bought after bringing home my Aiwa direct drive turntable with strobe and a front loading mechanism. I still have it too.

    Where am I going?

  • I didn't aspect such piece of music from Gino V. This sound remember me also Santana in his album "Borboletta"! Anyway Vannelli is still to be studied his sound and voice I just love it!!!

  • what happened to orchestra, and cn we bring them back?

  • @cruptbside There was no orchestra when I first heard this, It was just Gino, his brother Joe, a percussionist named Diddo and I believe drummer Mark Craney! It sounded, even more richer than this recording. They brought the house down in Chicago at The Civic Opera house.

  • WAAAAAAYYYYYYY ahead the curve and the time.

  • let me sum this up....WOW! AMAZING!!!!!!

  • I heard him live at the Great Southeast Music Hall in Atlanta Georgia. It was the spring of , I think, 1977. This was a little venue that seated about 600 people tops. It was an astounding show. Almost like a private performance. He was a dynamic singer and song writer.

  • This jazz sensibility is one of the major reasons I also love steely dan. Canada & the US; coming together again.

  • One of the BEST shows i've ever seen is Gino live. If you like his recordings, he'll take you even HIGHER live onstage! I especially love his extended jams like this one and "Where Am I Going" ,"Brother To Brother" and "Down With Love"

  • i rember this oh so well, it,s was thhe summer of 1975. the girls were great, and love was all around , i miss those day's with a passion. i only wish i would of followed my drean, of being a ro ck star, i think i stood a chance!

  • Yep! STL- 1978!

    I actually heard this "Live."

    He was Excellent...

  • Gino Vannelli is one of my favorite artist of all time. The music and songs that he has composed are timeless master pieces. There are so many artist during his era that just do not exist in today's music. It's amazing. Gino's music takes me to another place and world in time. The vibe and feeling I get listening to his work is indiscribeable.

  • I wish I would have stated that my self I feel you well crafted not another one like him and his brother Joe Who deserves as much credit!!!!

  • @awilliams9223 whenever the subject comes up I always insist that GV has one of the best voices of all time - period!

  • Timeless , Futuristic , Universal Music

  • "Storm at Sunup" is a most refreshing musical head rush. It takes you to different levels of excitement when you least expect it...!!! What a Helluva!!! entertainer. I had the pleasure of seeing him live several times back in the early seventies.... What a explosion of energy i feel when i really listen... I feel like i'm on the stage playing all the instruments!!! What a helluva KAROKE!!!!!!

  • Just tell me, where is he? LOL

  • Incredible music, especially considering all the overdubbing that brother Joe did on the keyboard parts. Polyphonic synths didn't come out until the late 1970s.

  • remember when artists used poetic license and tight instrumentation in their compositions like this?

what happened to our music ?

    this is absoultely brilliant

    brilliant i tell you....

  • gino sang about concepts which I live out in my life now

  • greeneyes, yes he was AWESOME! A voice from heaven

  • Ever heard him live?

  • unfortunately only on DVD and TV shows. He must be very amazing when he performs. Back in the day and now.

  • @greeneyesmexico I heard him live for the first time in the late 90's... unreal. Then again a few years ago... whew.. I honestly think he sounds better live than on recordings. You would be soooo much more impressed with the genius that is Gino when you hear him live.

  • @kenferry You are so right! Recordings don't do Gino justice! Gino's voice is powerful, and he is such a sweet, soft, spoken man! Sigh! I heard him sing this in Chicago in 76, he was fabulous. The vibrato in his voice just penetrated me and lured me into a dream state! I believe he got a standing ovation afterwards. ever since i've been a really big fan of Gino's.

  • @greeneyesmexico I saw him him twice in Dallas in the 70's....still the best LIVE shows I ever saw...

  • Heard him live twice. Amazingly excellent both times. What a bunch of superb musicians! Awesome!

  • @rogdodge99 In 78 Houston-was dragged to this show. This tune started and he rose up thru a trap door center stage playing a white baby grand wearing all white. Was sitting right up close & I remember it being so unbelievably loud but so incredibly crisp and clean that it didn't hurt.To this day the best sounding live show I have ever heard.Kissed the feet of the person who dragged me-whole thing was great beyond belief

  • @Nicar526

I sooooo wish this concert would be on DVD. I heard about this grand entrance from other lucky people that saw Gino live and they all they to this day that was the most electrifying concert they've ever seen. I'm still waiting to realised that dream :-(

  • @rogdodge99 - yes-several times

  • @rogdodge99

Yes I have seen him 7 times in the past 2 years and have been a fan for 36 years....I can't tell you how awesome it is to hear him live, and if you EVER get the chance, go see him..It will be one of the best things in life that you will ever do for yourself !!!

  • 1976 Mississippi State University

  • @rogdodge99 yes i jhave in 1975, at the santa monica , civic, auditorium!, he's was, fantastic, Just like storm at sun up!

  • @rogdodge99 YES Oh My YES!! Best concert I've ever seen.......it was back in the early 80's....never forget that night. He has the more incredible voice and his sense of music is awesome. Just love this man!

  • @rogdodge99 Yes, three time on his rise to the top. Undescribable. but I could try.

  • @rogdodge99 twice-first in 77-was dragged there by fellow music major pals in college(didnt know who he was and didnt want to go) To this day I get in my knees and thank the lord they did, because I was COMPLETELY blow away.Saw him again in 90...

  • Let's don't forget about the awesome musicianship displayed on his albums & concert performances. Gino surrounds himself with REAL talent!

  • Gino Vannelli has always been one of my all time favorite artists.

Man oh man, the grief I put up with back in the 70s when I listened to this guy. My friends had the atypical common demoninator type tastes in music, and they thought I was out of my mind for listening to Gino's stuff. I knew they were wrong then, and now... as a much older and wiser person, I know it for a fact. Few other artists have demonstrated the ability to make such passionate and well played music.

  • wooooow the master!!!

    Gino, you are the best!!!

The most beautiful and powerful voice ever!!!

in English, nel italiano y en español!!!

  • Tante grazie a Te, greeneyesmexico! Gino è sempre il più grande!!! Tanti Saluti dall'Italia! Ilpiccetto.

  • I just love his work and music. It was exactly who I was in the 70's a great voice and fusion jazz. I played this song and Love of My Life over and over. Thanks for posting.

  • you're welcome,. I agree Gino is a genius.

  • Un altro capolavoro del Maestro!

  • mille grazie

  • What a masterpiece this is! A great classic of fusion music!!!

Meet you there to be with Gino live¡¡¡

    ;-) Magam.

  • i think this song is from the year i was born 1975?

  • Agree with all comments. I wore out a couple of 8 tracks of this album. Had a portable 8 track player with huge speakers. hooked to the lighter with an adapter, back in the late 70's. Incredible music, incredible talent! Bravo!!

  • I have found that fans of Gino Vanelli are kind and sensitive people. Thankyou for sharing this post.

  • Isn't it great how Gino Vanelli's music transcends time, race, and culture!

  • I agree completely

  • One of the most sensuous songs of all time...Period.

  • That New Orleans show was the first night of that tour, and it was so powerful, that word got out overnight around the whole world what had just happened in NO, that the whole tour turned out to be magic with people screaming like the Beatles were coming for Gino. That is why he has such a special place in his heart for new Orleans, because that first night even blew him away it was so magical. Good job Mary. Doug Ridley from New Orleans, La

  • magic, pure magic!

  • I also listened to Gino back in the early 7o's

I had a friend who turned me on to Gino that thought he was gino.... The places and issues that gino sang about brings back deep memories

    cologne, woman, romance cloths......

  • This was the first song I heard of Gino (I think it was in 1977). I found it abolutely marvellous. I had never heard anything like that before. It was something new that came in to my life, to rest there forever. I can remeber all that ours I just sat listening to this LP, read all that could be read on the LP-cover, and all that time I just sat looking at this beautiful man...!

  • genijalno i neponovljivo

    remek delo

  • You are so right "cityterraceboy" about kids and their music today. I rarely let my 6 year old girl listen to the radio. She loves "Summers of my Life". As this type of music becomes her norm, she won't be able to tolerate mainstream music. I was 12 when I started listening to Gino and his music set the bar and forever changed me.

  • An instrumental version of this was used for an episode of Space:1999 ("One Mement of Humanity").

  • The kids today have know idea what true music is, they are fed so much junk from TV and the radio.

    this is magical!

    dave

  • "Storm at Sunup" was the first Gino Vannelli album I ever bought, that was in 1975 when it was first released. I love it as much today as I did back then. Thanks for sharing....

  • Same as I. I did buy it also in that exact year as well!!! What a year! Such a seductive appeal and impression! Fortunately, we learn very rapidly that there was so much more than met the eye in his compositions and arrangements! Divine Gino!!! Happy to say hello once more to you, dear Mary! Ready for November?

  • me too! got it on 8 track.... changed my life as a boy living in south texas..... moved to nyc after that... in my mind living out what i thought the music sounded like.

    cheers

  • Love this Jazzy version! Gino Vanelli RULES!!

  • Sooooooo Sexyyyyyyyyyyy! :)))

  • TIMELESS.

  • Of course, dear, I'm enjoying this other great classical one of his! Your kind sharing has transported me back to the middle of the 70s when I was beginning my studies in CU!

    Thank you so very much!

    Muchos saludos cordialísimos desde México!

  • Storm at Sunup, my first Gino Vannelli 8 track tape, this is very special to me, thanks for sharing!!!!!

  • Hey Mary, I first bought Powerful People after hearing People Gotta Move, and then realized as much as I liked that song, it was the weakest song on the album or 8 track I should say. I went nuts for the whole thing and couldn't wait for him to tour and then Storm at Sunup came out and again, what a killer album, with masterpieces one after another, then finally right after it came out was the magical night that was the Municipal Auditorium show.

  • Wow!!! FIVE STARS!!!

  • beautiful gino from abano terme Mario e Mirko

  • Thanks for the comment!! tanti auguri e molti saluti da Messico.....
