So it works 1 at a time. Now if you are grounding it by cutting the power from one side they are acting as a connected circuit in line to the same ground from the same sided power sourse therefore being powered, activating, and bring grounded as a single circuit.

The reason the doors alternate is..... well you have to think of it like a circuit. You cant send power to two objects that share the same ground from two sides of a circuit. When the single door opens it is as if it is ending the circuit and grounding itself.

I haven't tried this but by observing it, it seems that you can just connect the doors normally, but since the first time you did it, one of them was Opened, you assumed that it was broken (6:15). I know this video is a bit old and i hope you got that right already :D
