  • You should do a review on Legend of Dragoon. ?

  • for the price that it is now? This is definitely worth it.

  • R.I.P Cavia :(

  • Mikie says he's getting it.

  • Only review of this game that made sense... Truly one of the best games this gen.

  • english dubs.. eeeeeeewww....

  • Its funny when people complain abouth graphics but still play with consoles... They should just shut up, buy 1500€ pc and just play new battlefield and cod (and repeat this once in every 2 years)

  • There's not any plotholes - just things aren't explained in-game - everything is explained in the backstory of Grimoire Nier and it's utterly profound. This game is for the mature AND intelligent gamer. Cavia took a massive risk withholding the story, but it's to keep the player focused on saving his daughter, just like the father is - that's all that matters. Either way a firm 9/10 from me.

  • Yay for Drakengard.

  • Loved this game so much! On my 3rd play through right now. Anyone know of any similar games like this for ps3?

  • is it a sandbox / free roam ? kinda looks so cool to me since it's an action RPG gameplay.

  • Its not bad

  • Graphics always come second noobs

  • plotHOLES?

    really?

  • A string of profanity that will catch you off guard? Well not anymore, sir. Thanks to you.

  • graphics are not that good but who cares? it was fun and the story was very cool, and Kaine is hawt

  • One of my favourite games of this generation and the best soundtrack ever composed for a video game. R.I.P Cavia.

  • the only thing i don't like (the problem being small) is the father looks like a recovering crack addict who is doing community service (side missions)

  • The girl who does the voice of Kaine is Laura Bailey. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

  • @glacier2win IrrelevanT! NOW pull YoUr hEad oUt of yOUR aSS And StaRt fucKinG helPiNg Us!

  • @sNiP3R0pTiX I see what you did there.

  • this guy along with angry joe, peter dorr, avgn is one of my favorite reviewers!!!!

  • Game does not look that great, not as good as you fighting hordes of people. With lots of blood. Like the other Niers.

  • @OriginalDradakin

    Which other Niers? o.O

    Or which other games

  • @9snaker I believe he's speaking of the Drakengard games, they're not really connected to Nier, supposedly one of the endings of the original somehow has some association with Nier though.

  • @9snaker it depends; if you live in Japan, then NieR was split into NieR Gestalt and NieR Replicant following basically 2 different parts of the same story. Gestalt was for XBL and Replicant was for PSN, although elsewhere in the world, NieR is exclusively for PSN.

  • @sNiP3R0pTiX @megametalknuckles @NCWC916

Thanks for all your comments guys, but if you want to get an answer to the question i posed, then you probably should read sNiP3R0pTiX response ^^

btw. thanks for the info sNiP3R0pTiX :D (and to you other two too of course :D)

  • You know this generation is shit when all they care about is "THE GRAPHICS R WEAK".

  • @tolwynsa Ok so being that you took a phrase right outta my comment Ima go ahead and assume your talking to me....look, I dont only care about graphics. Fact is the game itself sucked. I can sit at home and play NES still in all its 8 bit glory and still enjoy myself to an extent. Nier's controls, and characters....especially its foes, were hella sorry. At the same time I realize this is only MY opinion, thats why it had MY name next to the comment, no one elses. Im sure some people love Nier.

  • @NCWC916 You can return opened games?

  • @ZeitgeistReview yup, if within 3 days.....I went and got Ghostbusters instead, its a great game.

  • @ZeitgeistReview yeap, depends on the store though.

  • @ZeitgeistReview he must have got it from a gamestop or a place like that

  • @ZeitgeistReview Yeah, i played "Into the blue" on DS for 3 hours, took it back and GAME fully refunded me without question, i just said i didn't like it.

  • @ZeitgeistReview I did it once.

Takes some swift talking, pretending to be angry, and bluffing to call the CEO or something like that haha.

  • Comment removed

  • @XxKuRoTsUbAsAxX Lmao, you see....grown men (and normal human beings in general) dont get "emotional" over any video game ....FAG....oops I meant *snicker*. Fact is Nier wasnt a good game for me, shit Ghostbusters was a fun, playable game. Its from my generation (early 80's) so it brought a lil bit of nostalgia home, you know, kinda like when you watch My Little Pony.....period.

  • @NCWC916 i have to disagree. As long as the game has a good story it will cause emotions to me just like a good movie. Videogames for me isnt just for fun.they are also a form of art, interactive art, an art that hasnt evolved yet into its full potentional but still an art. silent hill shattered memories was very emotional and thought provoling imo

  • @redblackfox23 I hear what your saying, and I can see how someone can get wrapped up in a video game due to all the backstory and cinematic cut-scenes. I myself, only play games as a form of time wasting amusement. But that may just be inherant to my own personality, be that as it may, we are all entitled to play games for whatever reason we choose.

  • @NCWC916

    WHAT?! o.O

You think that game sucked? What kind of games do you play then? And which ones did you like??

  • @9snaker I liked the NG sigmas ( both of them ) but then again Ima NG fanatic....I hella liked dead space, and demon souls ( gonna buy dark souls next ) lol and this might sound cheesy but Golden Axe turned out to be pretty tight too! And of course ALL the God of Wars! But man, this game seemed to much like...a cpu game? I dont know, I just didnt like the way you attacked, didnt like the controls or graphics much, but the main issue was the controls and attack options...cheesy character too.

  • @NCWC916 So you wouldnt like Devil May Cry with deep emotional attachments? Kinda shallow.

  • @shinyshiny82 I know I wouldn't. Cause that's kinda stupid. DMC is a high octane action game. The only thing that is supposed to be deep is the combat. The story doesn't have to great just decent enough to have a reason to keep playing and the cutscenes should be fun to watch. If they focused on trying to put an emotional story on DMC that would mean they are focusing on the least important aspect of those games.

  • @NCWC916 Ok so you're an idiot and have a horrible taste in games? Coulda just said that so we wouldn't have to guess.

  • @WarShipSayTen Idiot? lol, yeah ok. For one how fuckin old r u to be callin people names over a dumbass video game? 2, whos to say what horrible taste is?? What just cuz I didnt like this weak ass game? Its personal preference dickhead! And last but not least, who the fuck told you that you had to guess anything about the next man? Your a weak ass link, sounds like you need some pussy homie. Grow up n getta life...gettin all bent outta shape over a fuckin YT opinion.

  • @NCWC916 Thanks dude i was gonna get this it duz look pretty shit. I,m doin Uncharted 3 @ the moment not too bad but the fpm are slow and the ai is a bit cruddy but still not a bad game but not a masterpiece like ign said.

  • i did 3 rd time it gots a lot of drama buts awsome

  • What the Fuck just happened?

  • this is one of the most visceral and emotional rpgs of all time with a soundtrack that is beyond A+.

  • FINAL BIT OF PLOT: The book you touched at the beggining of the game was Grimoire Noir. (freaked the shit out of me when i found out, cuz it was the final bit of story ive discovered)

  • (500 more letters :D) EVEN MORE PLOT: Emil was taken and altered to petrify everything he looks at to freeze his out of control sister, thats why everything in his mansion is made of stone, but when he is forced to petrify Kaine he spends the next 3 or 5 years (i forgot which) looking for a way to release her, he finds it when he discovers that killing his sister and absolving her powers will give him the magic he needs and allow him to see, but also turning him into a floating skull thing.

  • MORE PLOT: Weise betrayed the shadowlord (Nier's split soul) and Grimwore Noir) and began fighting for the Bodies who grew souls. there called "shells" by devola and popela because thats what they once were before they grew souls, The shadowlord kidknapped Yonah to put the shade of Yonah back into her body and the shadowlord is the soul of Nier, but he never finds that out. Emils backstory in 92 letters: Emil's sister was made into an ultimate weapon that went out of control (out of letters)

  • PLOT: a few years before the into of the game, humanity tried to save themselves from the disease (the black scrawl) by splitting thier souls from thier bodies with the 2 books, Grimoire wiese and Noire. After doing this the soulless bodies grew souls and the sould grew bodies (shades) some shades took over bodies that grew thier own souls, like Kaine, (Gestalts) and fought for the shades, but everyone else had no idea what happened 1300 years in the past so they assumed shades were bad.

  • Debating whether falling asleep while playing it is a point in its favor or not. lol

  • the 2nd play through you get to hear the thoughts of the monsters you kill and mostly explains everything at the end.

  • So im getting this game in a day or so and i am SUPAH excited! ill be sure to check in and tell you how i like it> nice review btw :)

  • Sold.

  • Nier is a real great game. The grafic is not the best, but besides that Nier is better than any Final Fantasy of the last years.

  • @ForboJack

True about that, but allmost every RPG game is better than FF, btw Skyrim i scoming , so all the games could be put away :P !!

  • @ForboJack I haven't played nier soi can't really compare it to the Final Fantasy series. But I found 12 and 13 incredibly enjoyable just because of the story. I know that they cannot touch 6. But really, they are masterpieces in their own right.

  • @ForboJack That's NOT true!

  • @ForboJack Won't be better than Versus 13

  • @ForboJack Very much agreed.

NieR is much better than Final Fantasy XIII in terms of story characters and writing but of course Final Fantasy gets all the attention cause it has the PWETTY PWETTY GRAFICS!

And the graphics ij Nier aren't even that bad. They do the job just fine.

While the graphics in Final Fantasy XIII are good the game still has dull characters and boring story. Not to mention the first 40 so hours of the game is like walking down a hallway.

  • @ForboJack Well I guess everyone has their own taste in games, I didn't like this game! The problem I had with it is that there are huge environments but there isn't much to do in them, thus I found this game utterly Boring! The so called Magic attacks you get seem pretty lame and weak!

  • I find that these reviews you guys put out are much more helpful than a lot of these supposed video game sites. Great job fellas.

  • Holy shit after doing some research Neir and Drakengard are fucken connected! WTF!?

  • RIP Squaresoft and Enix, ever since merging you have failed to and ever will release any good games, this is the best of what we have to put up with, a game that looks like something EA could come up with in a month

  • @Evisiling agreed fully.

  • This look so bad.

  • SUBBED

  • im stuck on the first lvl i sold the mutton to some dude NOW WHAT PLZ HELP IM A NOOB AND THIS GAME LOOKS AWESOME LIKE FOR INSTANCE THE SWEARING AT THE BEGGINNING OF THE GAME SOMEONE HELP ME PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @devilvoyaa more intelligent people, or people older than 8 would search for a walkthrough and use that, rather than putting some very specific question on a barely related youtube video.

  • The game is amazing, and realistically, the parts you have to play through again are just the boss fights so what you really get is a two hour buss rush mode, which is actually very rewarding since the stats carry over and make getting all those silver trophies a breeze.

Plus, the second time you fight the bosses is the real gem of the story. Without giving too much away, all I can say that is that it's such a different experience than the first time around.

  • 6:25-6:48 - LMFAO

I'm semi interested in this now.

  • I just got this game and... do you HAVE to play Drankengard to understand this?

  • donz get me wrong but this looks....stupid

  • I laughed when he said he spent 45 minutes fishing in the wrong spot. I did the same thing.

  • The story is getting more and more interesting in the second part of the game...

The second play will kind of make you cry...

You will start to skip some cut scenes in the third play, and skip all scenes in the fourth play (which would take about only 2 hours to see the fourth ending)...

It's a very cool game... Too bad the world map is too small... It would be a lot better, for me, if there were more towns to visit...

  • This game is legendary for me and deserves a spot in best games of all time!

  • Never played this game but Drakengard was one of my favourite games when I was playing on the Playstation 2

  • hahahah the ENDING GRAHAHAHA XD

  • @DaRealHibariKyoya seeing as you can find Nier for like 10 bucks new at some places I would go for Nier now and im sure you will be able to earn back that 10 bucks by the time battlefield comes out.

  • is this game worth getting? i like magic games and ive like.. hidden this in a shop >.> lolz

  • @VampiricJulie94 yes i would definitely say it is worth getting

  • Just got the D ending and .......Holy shit omg, just letting you all know to use a USB flashdrive to back up your data just sayin

  • gotta admit tryann is awesome how can kaine not like that guy he's awesome carnival of murder for the win

  • man the last bosses are so SAD i had to stop playing for day to avoid crying and feeling like a total ass whole

  • Yea im playing part two (ijust beat the game a while ago) and Kainé has a rough story no wonder shes always like that

  • I hear this game is the continuation if the game series Drakengard is it true?

  • Comment removed

  • Eh. It wasnt that hard to understand the story. Which I must say was interesting

  • when fishing i did the same thing but for over an hour. i was so fucking mad

  • AHH! the guy at EB games said this was bad so i didnt get it, instead i got dantes inferno, in my opinion was garbage, might get this soon as it is pretty cheap now, plus i sold dantes inferno..

  • @KILL3RKI3R4N you mean god of war???jk yeah the game was only good one time thru

  • that text at the end, is that really from Nier?

  • @levintine777 yes its the beginning of the game ^^

  • it looks bad

  • love this game, Weiss is definately my faveorite character

  • I cried during the first and second ending. When you have to put your name for the answer to Yonnas final question for ending A my eyes teared up so much. Poor shadow lord in ending B.

  • If you want to see a playthrough of this game, hop over to my channel. I put a new 10-15 min video up each day of me playing the game with commentary and my thoughts on the game. The more people the better even if you dont subscribe or anything, just a comment would be awesome :}. Thanks

  • I KNOW THAT VOICE AT THE END! That was the voice of little Trunks from DBZ!!!

  • @Sweetlewfor3 You're right o.O

  • Oh man, I was laughing so hard at "Maybe I'm just bitter because I was fishing in the wrong spot for 40 minutes". Only took me 20, but after finally cursing at my TV (actually something I don't do much as a gamer) I consulted an FAQ which was smart enough to call out "Follow the red X - the spot right by the fisherman is way too high level for you to be successful".

  • @NLaBruiser It's actually funny how there is a big fat red x and still EVERYONE is fishing in the wrong spot, me included xDD

  • i like the end lulz

  • Nier is my all time favorite game and i got it the day before my birthday (the day it came out :D) TIP for anyone who hasnt played it: dont do any side quests, there boring and ruin the game. same as farming ans fishing. just do the story. also theres a secret achievement on xbox for if you beat the game in under 15 hours. dont listen to IGNs review of it, they rated it low because of the graphics (which were pretty good BTW) EPIC GAME!

  • The "snow" you see in the opening cut scene actually isn't snow at all; it's salt.

  • Is there an option to remove blood in the game?

  • 24 hours for your first playthrough???!! wtf?

  • Gay ass video.

  • why are you being surprised look at who made it ? Square Enix then it's gonna be MindFuck.

  • @PurpleMoonYef Square Enix didn't make it, they published it. It was made by Cavia.

  • @HardToFindGoodNames well Square Enix or anything it has to do with. EA didn't make NFS hot pursuit on it's own it doesn't mean it's not on it awesomeness level.

  • thank you.... i was 4 hours looking for my next game

i came over god of war3 dantes inferno and castlevania

i even looked at shooters but this presentation was so great it couldnt be helped and i bought the game^^

they should really give you a job on the merchandise department xD

and thanks for the great review it really helped me with my choice

  • So basically the shade are actually human souls, and the shadowlord is actually the guy that you played as at first(the guy in 2049). The shadowlord wants his body back, (Nier) and he takes yonah, (which is the body of his daughter). This game was epic as hell.

  • @karmalink20 Epic spoiler:(

  • @ZeitgeistReview

I just got a ps3 recently can you tell me any good rpg's to buy. So far i like Dragon age 1 and 2 and mass effect 2. what else could you recommend.

  • Thanks so much for this Review! I've been looking for a new game to play for awhile and every review I read are so biased and a bunch of mixed thoughts. This one helped a lot, Ill definitely be buying this ASAP. Its looks worth a try. :)

  • at first i thought this game looked dumb when watching the TGS trailer (replicant one)

Im glad I tried it though, the story is moving as hell, and I much prefer a father figure rather than a brother-sister love relationship, like so many jap games/animes lol

  • (MASSIVE SPOILERS HERE)

To help clarify, the Shades are actually people in an intermediary stage, while your characters with human forms are vessels that gained sentience. Basically, Nier becomes I Am Legend in game form...thinking you're fighting monsters when you're the greatest one.

  • I focus more on your review than IGA Reviews

  • OH GOD BOOBS.

  • he nier means kidney in dutch....... does your daughter have a kidney disease

  • i never knew that Nier was a spin-off from drakengard !! now i have to play it !

  • yeaaa..... there no human all the humans dies around 2100 cause of the books....

  • Well,so you basically need about 100 hours to achieve everything?

  • I loved this game. However, I fail to see the "plot holes" you speak of. I have thought about this game very often and read the extra information(which isn't fully needed), and most of the truth in this game can only be found from deep thought and through the side quests. Yes. The side quests help the story. There are legitimately few or no plot holes, except I believe for the last ending. Decent review, glad you like the game. Fishing is tough, but fun after a while.

  • Oh before I would like to post up my good comments, fourtunatley i do not have any rude, or bad comments and or reviews about the game. First thing, the game is filled with magic, love, hate, drama, adventure, fiction and nonfiction, and most importantly, its has the equal amount of reallists and imagination.

  • Incase of any misspelled words I'm sorry, all though I do not think I misspelled any words so yeah.

  • Also, incase your lost with the summary and or essay that im posting up, the way that all the civilization in the year 2049 died, is by the destruction of grimwar-wise brother (little hint, grimwar & his so called brother are magic books). so all the people that you see through out the story line are just mere- imitations of the originals.

  • One who died in the year 2049. The reason that I beleive that is because the shadows daughter is like a ouple of years from becoming a woman, and the mid-evil character's daughter is young. but if you pay attention to what they say at he end, or close to the end he says he thinks they are just imitations of the people that lived in 2049. Oh and another thing, i also beleive that all the shadows that you fight through out the adventurous story line, are all the people that died in the year 2049.

  • the NUMBER ONE main charcterhas a daughter, the same daughter that the 2049 characters and the mid-evil characters have. When the shadows stole his little girl in the beginning of the game, its the same girl that was with the shadow at the end. if you listen to what she says in the movie-scene at the end its like theres two people living in that body. The mature young lady, and the little girl its like she would be confused over who her father really is. what I beleive is that the shadow is the

  • The game was absolutley amazing, just a few problems; like why would they make all the main characters have silver and or, grey hair anyways. i've played this game countless times what i think happened was that the futureistic characters that died in 2049, appeared to be the same shadows that you fight in the end of the game n the mid-evil characters are just mere imitations all unreal in an imajinary world. If you ave played through out the whole game you can see that the shadow that looks like

  • Yes fishing in games sucks! thank you

  • it's bit sad that the design team somehow goes capcom-style where they scrapped away tons of background story on left a tip of iceberg in presentation, thus the confusing setting when you tried to explore deeper.

there are japanese source ordering for the "game design" book but unfortunatly i'm not one of those who knows how... good luck if you love this game's story like crazy

  • Beat this game 6 times that how much fun it is :)

  • What I love about your reviews is that you tell who the developer is (Cavia) and who the publisher is (Square-Enix). Not too often that people mention little things like that. Your reviews have all the nice details that a lot of reviewers unfortunately miss. Your're a smart reviewer and I really enjoy your reviews, thanks!

  • i own this game and it is awsome i'm on my third play-through right now their's actually 4 ending so i've heard and to get the last one you have to collect all the weapons which is what i'm currently working on right now BTW i know this is kinda random but do you have a review of Folklore for PS3?

  • BEST REVIEW EVER !!!! you are the BEST

  • outdated graphics

  • hahaha that fishing comment made me laugh so hard so im subscribing

  • okay. this game is absolutely amazing. it is easily one of my most favorite games of all time, next to okami. i laughed, i cried. i did both on multiple occasions (but not at the same time).

the first ending: okay, that was pretty neat.

    2nd: HELL YEAH

    3rd: ;_;

    4th:;_;

this game is one of the most moving i have ever played, and the cried for one of the bosses themselves after i found out what it had gone through and some of its past on my subsequent playthroughs. I highly recommend this game.

  • I think you must have played Drakengard to understand Nier, I am not sure. There is a secret ending in Drakengard that ends with the beginning of Nier

  • @TheCommentGuy8 Aye, I read that on Wikipedia :-)

  • @ZeitgeistReview Listen, man. I like your reviews but you need to stop using curse words. It sounds unnatural and stupid. You just can't pull it off. I'm telling you this only to improve your reviews.

  • @TheCommentGuy8 i watched the 5th ending of drakengard on youtube but i dont understand how that leads up to the beginning of nier. i just started playing nier a few days ago but are you saying that in order to understand the story i need to play through drakengard enough to get the 5th ending, and beat nier 4 times?

  • This is the only game where I've liked every character and sympathized.

I love everything, and have been listening to the soundtrack non-stop.

    Nier, Emil & Kaine <3

  • Personally i felt endings C and D didn't really add anything to the story, so i was a little disappointed by the end. They were more theoretical situations of "But what if...".

  • LOL had the same problem with fishing in the wrong spot to progress through story was about to stop playing the game altogether until i found the actual spot after like 30 minutes. Still have yet to finish it but overall its kind of a wierd game but fun xD

  • games like nier is so rare.

the story was so fascinating that i had to play it all trough and get all endings.

its also the first game ever i had trouble fighting some of the bosses, they did great in making bosses you would feel sorry for .

    the story is original,

    the game play is ok.

    the voice acting is fantastic

the plot twist are beyond good though some are predicable

but for me nier was the best game for 2010

it was your review that made me buy it so thank for fantastic review

  • @justique You're welcome.

  • @ZeitgeistReview

say did you play in order to get all endings?

  • @justique

First playthrough: DIE EVIL BOSS DIEEEEEE

Second playthrough: OMG thats what actually happened? poor boss :( i dont want to kill it now...

  • @justique you are a good man my friend

  • havent played it

but what does this game has to do with Drakengard ?

  • @Shetyre in one ending of Drakengard Angulus (the dragon) and the group travel through time to modern day japan, and they got shot down. In it, Angulus brought in a virus kind of thing that affect the people in the world also formed magic. and with 1000 years later, Nier begins, due to that virus.

  • game looks pretty cool any other games out like this one that would be cool to try out?

  • I love Zeitgeist Review.

  • The girl's outfit looks ridiculous, impractical and uncomfortable.

  • And playing through this game more than once actually does answer some questions and clear some maybe confusing things up. And a few surprises that im not going to spoil for everyone.

  • amazing game:] i love the story! they need to make a number 2:P

  • Dosent this game have a mature conyent toggl i herd it ruins the game

  • I got this yesterday along with Darksiders both are pretty good so far. I think i'm enjoying this more though might keep this when im done whereas I might trade darksiders in, but who knows Im only an hour in each game so we will see how it goes :D (also not saying Darksiders is bad just doesnt seem like it be good for more than one play through.....so far)

  • @chocotricks

It gets better as you go along man. I'm playing it a second time and I'm starting to understand more of Niers' world... I won't spoil anything though. I haven't been hooked to an RPG game like this since... Star Ocean the Second Story on PS1!
