My prays go out to all the families involved...Almost all law enforcement are prior military serviceman and have extensive training with firearms and gain a little more when they join law enforcement, that being said I'm disappointed that the retired officer did not identify his target...John did not point the weapon at him so why pull the trigger? Lets not forget basic training.

Whenever there is a shooting by a crazed bastard, you hear people say, " If more people had guns, this shit wouldn't happen." Like when Senator Gifford was shot. The problem is that it's too difficult to differentiate foes and friendlies in these situations. The more armed, non-uniformed persons you put into the mix, the more critical targets I see. I wonder if it was the retired cop - out of the fray for a tad and rusty; jumpin the gun - shoot first and yell "freeze" later.

Dunno what there is to probe, robber had a pellet gun, he had a gun and the officers who arrived on scene had guns, So unless he shot himself one of the officers shot him and the suspect who was armed with a pellet gun. Mystery solved..... case closed.

Sad story: Obviously he was not shot by the robber because the robber was armed only with a pellet gun. We need to resume the discussion of banning fire arms, not only from criminals, but from the police as well.
