  • I believe you are talking about Rogues Gallery on Va Beach Blvd (17th St)

  • I lived in VaBeach & at 19 yrs old I experienced the Bill Deal & the Rhondels magic at the club on VaBeach blvd at the beach...I can't remember the daggone name of the place. It wasn't the Peppermint Club or the Top Hat....All I can say now is MISS YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • Thanks for the cool video.brings back memories of townpoint park norfolk va.in the mid1980s.bill deal was the man when it came to beach music hell he put va beach on the map with his rhondells.

  • Enjoyed Bill Deal & the Rhondells in October 1971 in Underground Atlanta, GA and no one put on a better show than them.

  • So glad you included Soulful Strut in the video. I have the original LP with that gem on it, and I had to put it onto a CD to listen to in the car. It is the BEST version of the song.

  • Met Bill and Ammon in the early sixties .... I first heard them play at a community house dance.... then the Top Hat and Peppermint Beach Club. Growining up in New Jersey I used to spend a few weeks of every summer visiting my family at VA beach and got to hear this marvelous band many nights. I'm a musician and I used to tell people up North about this band. I must say ... they could dance a crowd like nobody's business!! Great legacy!

  • Met Bill at the "Peppermint" after graduating from music dept. at UNC.I asked him what this "beach music"sweeping beaches on east coast was all about. He said it was music that had it's roots in R&B's with a beat that made people feel happy and want to get up and dance. He wanted a great horn section that most bands didn't have.He was an innovator that blended voice response, dubbing, etc.with the instrumentation.Became the ambassador of B.M.as it spread worldwide.Never forgot his fans in V.B.

  • I missed that obit. Just left an entry on another post where I said that I heard him a few years back for Bristol First Night(also laid to rest). What a great surprise to see him there. Good show!

  • The music of the great Bill Deal & The Rhondells band is just as fabulous in 2008 as it was back in 1968! I'm 18 again when I hear "MAY I" or I'VE BEEN HURT". He must have been a wonderful man to know. May God bless the light that shines on his loving Family.

  • Bill Deal and The Rhondells were so fun.I'm trying to buy their Anthology C.D. Such a great fun band.Take Care.
