Choules has died. There are none left. This is not just the death of a man, but it is symbolic of the end of entire generation of people. The whole population of Earth born when Choules was. Much of the world we live in was built and pioneered by these men and women. They will be missed.
@Polyfusia There are only none left if you are refering to combative veterans. Florence Green, who is 110 years old, served as a waitress for the RAF and is officially recognised as the last surviving veteran of the First World War (since Claude Choules passed away). Furthermore, there are several claimant veterans still alive, as CrazyCoyote100 has mentioned. Also, there are individuals alive who were born in the 19th century, they are also symbolic to Choules' generation.
@CrazyCoyote100 I'm intrigued, but I can't find much on these individuals. Could you possibly inbox me any decent links you may have please? It would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Bad news People Claude Choules health is declining even faster, he's almost completly blind and deaf! and even possible.......Death =( lets pray he'll stay alive!
BTW Harry Futcher and Douglas Terrey have passed away- not sure about the others although supposedly there are no current Unverified World War I Veterans- Just the 3 Verified and Era-Vet Józef Kowalski .
Thanks guys for rating, and commenting! I added the last living WWI-era vets in the description box. Take a peek! Remember, WWI-era vets never served in WWI, just in a different war during the same time period as WWI.
crazycoyote100, I am pretty sure Frank Buckles did not turn 109 on 1 February 1901, he turned 109 on 1 February 2010. Also, Claude Choules just turned 109 on 3 March 2010.
The ending of the two World Wars are 27 years apart. Im assuming that in 2037, we will get in this perdicement again. Nobody needs to worry about that.
With his death, the Canadians have, more or less, lost a National Treasure.
As for the other three... At most, we will only have Mr. Buckles for 2 more years, 3 at most
Same goes for Mr. Choules. As for Florence Green, well some women have been known to live to 112, even 115, so at most, but highly unlikely, she will be around for only 6 more years at most. I'm not being Pessimistic, it's just that our bodies can only live for so long...
Thanks for making this Video. Your facts are correct. However, I believe that Claude Choules is the LAST ONLY LIVING PERSON in the world today that was actually a combatant.
Claude Choules is very significant. As of today, 10/8/09, he is the last living witness to "The scuttling of the fleet at Scapa Flow," whatever that was.
the scuttling of the fleet was when the German navy was being held at Scapa flow while the allies decided how to divide up the ships. the Germans through a wrench in thier plans by sinking every ship they could on the British guards
claude choules: Last seaman and last veteran who served for British Empire. Last veteran who served in both World Wars. Joined in 1916. Last witness to the German Naval surrender. Moved to Australia in 1926 and served with Royal Australian Navy in WWII. Lives in Perth, Western Australia
Henry was one of very few males that made it to 110+ years. Before his death, 78 total verified supercentenarians. 72were women and 6 were male. Amazing!!
M.L husain was born in the war and john F. Kennedy born in the war too :D

*Mzee Barnabus arap Rop (Kenya)
*Andrew Rasch (USA)

You can call a veteran a hero, but he/she may disagree. The true heroes are the ones who never came home.
