Love your video Kutcher! You are an amazing person to have made this little boy so famous and happy! And... btw... how were you prowling around Philly at night like this just outa the blue? dont famous people usually get like mobbed and stuff when they are in public?? haha ;)
This kid could win a lot of money if he were on a show... Maybe America's Got Talent? I see this kid everywhere on youtube when I search for Violin. I can only dream of playing a Violin, and I'm so glad to see someone who is good, and doing this because he loves it. :)
get over it ppl! this boy is great and talented! u go around amd ask every 1 if they wish they could be him and they would say a million times yes! i bet all u haters drank to much haterade for breakfeast! and fyi played the flute and quite the first day! least this kid isnt like me :p but u ppl leave the cute boy alone!
he reminds he of myself im only 13 and im self taugh for the most part because my string class moves to slow for me so i went home taught myslef nd in 1school year(no counting as a full year) i was off playing with the big time lake charles symfony nd also with the bulber ochestra
@skyninja13 Woah slow down. I never criticized the kid. I criticized the people who think he's a prodigy. I know plenty of young musicians who work their butts off that are MUCH more deserving of praise than him. I'm glad that this boy has an interest in music and the violin.
@sbatt912 and also, it's not about knowing people who you think deserves more praise then whoever, it's about enjoying the talent of others and respecting everyone who has this much of a passion for something they love.
soo does everyone understand he is doing what he loves and is having fun with it
i mean seriously if u wanna get noticed than stop whinning and try to get noticed
this kid probably spends 3-5 hours a day out trying to get money to support his family and all you guys do is complain about his techniche and how he holds the bow who cares it sounds good and if you can play it too thats just great go ahead and play it
Okay. Coming from a violin player myself. I am 20 and have been playing violin for 16 years. This kid has had no training and was only playing for two years. I Think that alone is more talent than most people. Think about it. He enjoys playing music and wanted to show people what he has taught himself. Your crazy if you don't believe that this is love and passion for music. No one should talk down upon this video.
@JustAPhase239 I agree! People are so quick to say what he is doing wrong rather then saying something positive. He taught himself so of course he is not going to hold the bow the "right way". People are pathetic now and days. There is no positive attitude in this world.
He's good but I wouldn't exactly say a prodigy....fast isn't necessarily good and yes I am a violinist and no I can't do that but I guess it's just not my cup of tea....
Hey! Hey! You two break it up, spanky, just say your wrong because you are. And stop saying those dirty cuss words. Black person. Yeah everybody knows you don't have talent and your just another one of those kids who don't know anything about music and automatically thinks this joke is amazing! I mean COME ON! Im eleven and I can play better than that. Plus, learning THAT in 2 years doesn't mean your more talented than a kid that learns that in, well, 7 years! Came on!! PS: Justus Rivera is a
@takaharrue I agree with you, but, its pretty difficult to do that, its not the most difficult thing to play in the violin( Those that dont play the violin, always say that musics like this one are praticly impossible to play, and they are not, they only seem to be very difficult), but he plays very well, but A LOT, of violinists can o that, even in his age, (if they've started to learn violin, when they were very young) you dont need to be a prodigy to do dat
virtuoso? prodigy? ridiculous, he's terrible and he clearly knows NOTHING about playing the violin or music in general. Things like this are disgusting and show how little knowledge people have for art/music. Its amazing how kids like him can be allowed to develop attitudes and egos such as he has for DISGRACING a nearly 500 year old art form such as violin playing and the even older art form of music and be glorified for it. unbelievable...
If it takes a so-called expert to figure out that a performance or a piece of writing isn't good, then that means it is good and that the expert doesn't get the point: that effectively communicating an idea is the only thing that matters when it comes to art or music. I think that kid did that rather well, and I also think that you are disrespecting him by claiming he's terrible when clearly many others got the message he was trying to communicate with his music which you failed to do.
@thisismikestanley So you're also saying that Charlie Daniels is disgracing the violin for playing the fiddle? Called something different, but entirely the same instrument.. You're just another hater who's jealous of a kid who LEARNED everything by himself.. Knows how to read music, and write his own shit.. You'll still be like the others and be nothing, when this kid is going to go far and beyond what he ever imagined..
Thank you Justus for being who you are, and making amazing music..
@spanky407 Do you play the violin? I'm sure you dont, cus any violinist can see that he's not a prodigy. He plays well, but anyone with experience could play what he is playing. ANYONE.
@yththryfgrfyg I didn't say he was a prodigy did I? And anyone can play this? Give me a fucking break man. He's how old? He made up his own shit at that age? Was able to just hear something, and turn it into something of his own? Your argument was almost as good as the last one, which isn't that great. Hate on the kid all you want, but this kid is the shit. That's why he got signed. Go fuck yourself dumbass, and hate on something that's worth hating.
@spanky407 Wow, calm down, i didnt say i hate him. he is talented, but not that talented. If you knew how to play the violin, you would see that what i said make sense.
I'm a violinist, and you are absolutely right. People don't understand anything about music, or the fact that what the kid is just doing random things with his left hand and moving the bow quickly. Almost anyone off the street could do what that kid is doing after a month of practice. This truly is a disgrace.
thanks so much, its great to finally see someone who knows what i'm talking about. can't help it that some people who have commented on this video are so ignorant that they cant recognize what technique is/isn't and that it is essential for making music, an that its a necessity that this kid dosen't have.
Yeah its a shame. It makes it even better that the kid is playing outside of Curtis, lol. I came to the Chicago College of Performing Arts to study with Robert Chen and Yang Liu, I'll be a junior in a month. I assume you're a violinist?
haha, so true about Curtis. it would have been funnier if Roberto Diaz came by and kicked his ass instead of ashton kutcher. No, actually I'm a violist. Still a high school student, principal viola of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. Wow, Robert Chen? Thats awesome dude.
the vibrato part was on spot which kinda made it believable, but then near the end you can sort of see he isnt pressing proper and its too relaxed for those notes. ya i played violin back in middle school and par t of high school too. i was kind of thinking this kid probably did this to get extra money since his parents wont give him money to spend on mcdonalds
@sbatt912 Thank you for acknowledging that. These days no one remembers what an actual prodigy is. Sarah Chang performed the Tchaikovsky violin concerto with the New York Philharmonic when she was younger than this kid, Michael Rabin recorded the Paganini caprices at his age. Heck, I played the Mendelssohn concerto with my youth orchestra when I was younger than him and I'm not a prodigy, I was just a little kid who practiced violin. I don't get how people are going bananas over this randomness.
When I was little I dream about playing the violin like this ...but now I growp up I forgot about this dream ....watching this video made me remember it :)
Ashton opened the doors for this lil dude, by posting this on the internet for those of y'all complaining abt the 20 bucks. Ashton paved the way for this dude, and because of the post online, this kid will achieve greatness. Thanks Ashton!!
20 Dollars is rather generous, regardless of who you are or how much you're worth. Assuming he stood there for 3 minutes, he payed the kid at a rate of 400 dollars an hour. Not only that, but the public attention he was able to bring to this boy's talent is worth much more than the 20 dollars.
Yes, and had he given the boy 50 or 100 bill he might have unnecessary attention to himself because people would start noticing that Ashton Kutcher was there.
I believe this kid is a M-U-S-I-C-I-A-N. And, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they paid by the "gig" and NOT by the minute which has been translated into DPH? Geez, what a jackass.... Why don't ya go steal some coin outta the Salvation Army buckets this Christmas... cuz waahh, you don't know where the money's going to wind up!!
I was merely responding to people who chastise him for only putting 20 dollars into his case - but thanks for displacing your internet rage! He's not currently the type of musician who gets paid by-the-gig...he's on the street if you didn't notice (and I'm fairly sure their wages aren't hourly). Here is your "Internet Flame - Fail" award.
@Nate4s: And I was merely responding to your babbling ignorance. Your change of heart must have come by way of cash donations received to buy yourself a new brain... hopefully one less confused by its owners statements. Lack of clarity is NO excuse to diss this kids earnings; be it $20 or $20mil. Try harder before the pity pay and your cerebrum become more atrophied. Dont go all award show on us, but youve received Dork of the Month award #2. Have a nice life enjoying your cluelessness!
I wasn't dissing the kids earnings - what a strange thing to fight about. He's great. However, I was dissing people who bitched about Mr. Kutcher only donating $20. I seriously don't understand your argument against my brain or ignorance. In no way did my post convey any sort of ignorance. You just want to play the devil's advocate to a point which was well founded...but then again, why am I even arguing with someone who's internet name displays the most terrible ebonics in which they speak?
Bypassing your content-devoid counter argument, what is your response to the first comment; "20 Bucks that's it!? Damn your cheap! "? That is apparently what your entire fight is about anyway. Read my first post carefully this time and sound it out...those are words. Don't skip half of them this time and it may make more sense. :)
Justas Rivera is a one in a million Ashton! You did a good thing by exposing his brilliance to us all ( with Ellen's help of course). I wish I could discover what I'm good at.
People in north philly don't have much but they have class, honesty and the willingness to learn and grow. Unlike idiots like theschitwoo who has no class! thanks for posting Prodigy the kid is amazing.
people talkin badd about how much ashton gave the kid $20 ,i belive he gave him more then that! and the most important thing of all! he gave him Fame! posting this video helped the kid out alot!I bett this kid will keep on learning because of that day! Thanks to ashton!
With ashton and ellen as the gate keepers the destiny of high art as we know it is doomed. RIP bach, beethoven, vivaldi, mozart, bartok...thanks for the memories.
Yeah, especially with the Curtis Institute half a block away...they've got 12-year-olds there who could kick this kid's ass...If he gets into the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, which rehearses two blocks in the other direction, I'll be impressed.
lea274 would you have droped him a 50 even if he was worth it? Nobody even knew who the kid was before Ashton - & the kid was more than happy with 20 - who are you to judge. Way to go kid! I think it was a nice gesture by Ashton too - nice to know there are still a few good people out there.
That Kid is very special. Lost his father to a tragedy very early in life . as a friend I am very proud of Him. oh yeah like 5 days before all this my Pastor prophesied he was gonna be famous!! Today he is filming as a guest on a TV. show. Great story. you go young dirt!! Bobby
whats wrong with everyone? i got my comment spammed but i have no idea what i said. we really are actually really close. we always have been. so to all you people who don't believe me, oh well. he is really good and i've never seen him in a violin lesson ever. im proud of him beyond belief!!!! ♥ you justus! :] congrats!
What? this young lad has had no formal training. jes.. it just shows someone can have a flair for something and not need pieces of paper in their pocket to prove it.
hey this is Sarah A. from GAMP. Dang Justus i had no idea you could play the violin like that! I only thought you played drums and piano. keep it up!:)
Very nicely done. His violin may need a bit finetuning, but overall it was quite sensational. For a child with no training, hes got quite a bit of talent.
Ok so have you been playing for 13 years old or are you 13? Either way your comments are just stupid..The kid taught himself how to play..Matter fact listen to the story on here look up Ashton Kutchers violin boy..He's never had a violin lesson in his life or anything...So with that being said who do you know who NEVER had a lesson or proper training that can do better then him..honestly..BTW I've been playing for 19 years and I still have no problem giving the credit this kid deserves..
no, 15. i wasnt trying to be mean. i even said that, sure he is good for never having lessons. but people that are like saying he's the best they have ever seen, aparently they dont listen to classical music. not trying to take away from him, but trying to explain that if people like this, there are even better violinists, that ashton cutcher didnt find.
you forget that he never had any lessons, and btw he can play the drums, and keyboard, he is very talented, he goes to my church, he asked me to let him us my labtop, and us my garageband, and in less than :10 mins he made a beat, and not some piece of crap beat, i mean i love music, and make beats, and he did somethg in a few minutes that normally takes me hours to get fine tones and set, so give the kid a break he is 13 years old, and comes from one of the hardest cities in the u.s
Wtf..everyone now is like this kid goes to my school and hes my best friend
such idiots.. maybe u were in the same school, but u never said hi because he was in band now that hes famous u are magically hes best friend...pple like have a reserved back stage pass in hell!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
omg my bestie friend!!!! justus you never told me you were soo greatt!!!!!! whoever it is that discovered him, come to GAMP at 22nd and Ritner in South Philly. seriously. there are people like him all throught the school. like me.
yo. this kid goes to my school. you rip it up Justus. This is Arlind Alimadhi from GAMP. If any famous person is reading this, then you should come to GAMP, a lot of kids are talented here.
This kid need to be on Jay Leno Show. C'mon people, let's help this kid out so he can be on The Jay Leno Show. It is so great to see this young kid from north Philly doing music because many kids from north Philly end up doing drugs and many other bullshit. BRAVO for Justus!

$20.00?..WOW I thought Scrooge was fictional.
Damn-here's your "Dork of Month" award, dude.
RUtripNcuz 2 years ago
I was merely responding to people who chastise him for only putting 20 dollars into his case - but thanks for displacing your internet rage! He's not currently the type of musician who gets paid by-the-gig...he's on the street if you didn't notice (and I'm fairly sure their wages aren't hourly). Here is your "Internet Flame - Fail" award.
Nate4s 2 years ago
@Nate4s: And I was merely responding to your babbling ignorance. Your change of heart must have come by way of cash donations received to buy yourself a new brain... hopefully one less confused by its owners statements. Lack of clarity is NO excuse to diss this kids earnings; be it $20 or $20mil. Try harder before the pity pay and your cerebrum become more atrophied. Dont go all award show on us, but youve received Dork of the Month award #2. Have a nice life enjoying your cluelessness!
RUtripNcuz 2 years ago

With ashton and ellen as the gate keepers the destiny of high art as we know it is doomed. RIP bach, beethoven, vivaldi, mozart, bartok...thanks for the memories.
havapuppy 2 years ago
Yeah, especially with the Curtis Institute half a block away...they've got 12-year-olds there who could kick this kid's ass...If he gets into the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, which rehearses two blocks in the other direction, I'll be impressed.
othmarschoeck 2 years ago
lea274 would you have droped him a 50 even if he was worth it? Nobody even knew who the kid was before Ashton - & the kid was more than happy with 20 - who are you to judge. Way to go kid! I think it was a nice gesture by Ashton too - nice to know there are still a few good people out there.

Very nicely done. His violin may need a bit finetuning, but overall it was quite sensational. For a child with no training, hes got quite a bit of talent.

okay, i would like to start off by saying im not trying to be mean :) just some constructive cirtisim, from a 13-year player.
1. your not holding the bow right at all
2. no offense, but i know tons of people who play better. sorry, just not that impressive to me. :(
peanutdemonbreun 2 years ago
Ok so have you been playing for 13 years old or are you 13? Either way your comments are just stupid..The kid taught himself how to play..Matter fact listen to the story on here look up Ashton Kutchers violin boy..He's never had a violin lesson in his life or anything...So with that being said who do you know who NEVER had a lesson or proper training that can do better then him..honestly..BTW I've been playing for 19 years and I still have no problem giving the credit this kid deserves..
XxCrazzyGringaxX 2 years ago
no, 15. i wasnt trying to be mean. i even said that, sure he is good for never having lessons. but people that are like saying he's the best they have ever seen, aparently they dont listen to classical music. not trying to take away from him, but trying to explain that if people like this, there are even better violinists, that ashton cutcher didnt find.
peanutdemonbreun 2 years ago 5
you forget that he never had any lessons, and btw he can play the drums, and keyboard, he is very talented, he goes to my church, he asked me to let him us my labtop, and us my garageband, and in less than :10 mins he made a beat, and not some piece of crap beat, i mean i love music, and make beats, and he did somethg in a few minutes that normally takes me hours to get fine tones and set, so give the kid a break he is 13 years old, and comes from one of the hardest cities in the u.s
poohdope 2 years ago
and plus that my lil homie from church, Victory Outreach North Philly, do ur thang homie!
