  • Looks could kill: Russell hovering between Norman Bates and Jim Morrison, while Ron veers between Clark Gable and Chaplin with a touch of ol' Schicklgruber thrown in for good measure.

  • At 5:30 Some of the stoners approve...others are a bit reluctant and confused

  • I could say Sparks were and are ahead of their time, but I'm not sure there'll ever be a time they'll fit into.

  • Thank you.

  • Much thanks for these posts. Bringing back lots of fun memories. We used to blast Sparks when driving around in my dads Mustang, On 8 track no less. The looks were priceless.

  • I'll never forget hearing THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BOTH OF US in 1974. Loved it. Sadly, I never realized these guys went any further than that one hit wonder. Now, nearly 35 years later I come full

circle only to understand I missed out big time. Wow and How.

  • Fuck YARP!

  • with a moustache like that, I'm surprised the " chosen ones " haven't moaned lol

  • Ive never seen a band that makes me smile the whole time I watch them , like these guys can do. The whole band is so damn talented , the bass lines are melodic and the drumming is fantastic . The drummer impresses me because they understand that one doesnt need to constantly ride the hi hats in every song. I also notice that they dont do alot of guitar solos , which is fine by me.,

  • A 70-es és 80-as évek legjobb zenekara!!!

  • I love when Russell's scarf somehow ends up on Ron's piano. Ron's expression is adorable. Come to think of it, I have a scarf like that. ^^

  • The guy in the audience at 5:30 with his girlfriend. The look on his face is priceless.

    Welcome to Sparks beach-boy !

  • @pogsquatch He looks like he just got turned down for a car loan.

  • "you don't know it, so what are you clapping for?" russell's comment's are worth it alone...

  • "you don't know it, so what are you clapping for?"

  • I am the 11,000th view thank you.

  • That was fkn great

  • Love this band!!!!!!

  • LOL B.C. is a clever song to do live, it pauses after each verse and the audience is tricked to applaud :D

  • I first saw them on telly New Years Eve 1974, and my 12 year old mind was blown away. Ron used to come into the shop I worked at in Beverly Centre, L.A. in 1987, and he was so quiet and polite.

  • What a fantastic concert - I saw them live in Hammersmith in 1975 and they were brilliant. And I still remember most of the words to the songs as well... :)

  • They even made a song for one of their biggest fans. Morissey.

  • I love Russell's running commentary! That's it with Sparks: You never if the jokes on you or them.

  • They were pure class, love em...

  • You don't know it so what are you clapping for??

  • @jesuisunpirate That seemed a bit rude of Russell. If I were him, I would have looked at the person and not said anything.

  • @jesuisunpirate

    That was awesome

  • Excellent upload!

  • Not more thean 21 messages for this incredible band..??

    Hilarious

  • WOW, IN-FREAKIN'-CREDIBLE !!

(pt 2!) THANX A MILLION for upping and sharing all these cultural gems, dilloacami :

May 1974, my parents had the fresh 'Kimono My House' LP on vinyl :

I was 5 years old at that time, ..sticked to the tv-screen when they appeared (between Mud, Slade, Zappa, Roxy Music, Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Who & The Rolling Stones) and a true fan (of them all) eversince...

the Mael brothers are still kickin' :

    do check for the

FROM THE BASEMENT (dot TV) sessions.

  • I wonder if Andy Kaufman liked this band?

  • Awesome. Just awesome.

  • Are you trying to say that the egos of Russell and Ron don't fit on one stage? I've got to disagree strongly. Their brothers and they've made music for years and years... It's TOTALLY different than Ferry & Eno! (although I like their music too, but that's not the point is it).

  • Haha Ron at 2:10 is hilarious! :)

  • What Humour!

  • God this brings back memories. Good ones of course. i loved Sparks the instant I saw them on this very show.

  • Firs time ive seen this band! Love it! cant decide which is my favorite, "B.C". or "Something with the girl for everything"

  • Thank you for posting this. I've been a fan since 1972. The only crime I've knowingly committed was buying a bootleg vinyl record of this concert. I was so guilty about having stolen from them that years later I sent a blank application to the Fan Club with a check for $100.

As smart as Sparks audiences tend to be, they have always been smarter, and always letting us know it. This has been their 'blessing' & their 'curse,' as well.

  • I have watched these guys for years and have been a fan all the time. I was 8 years old when I heard them the first time. I used to have the Woofer in Tweeters Album

  • The pissed off looking guy at 5.30 just doesn't 'get it' does he?

  • He probably doesn't 'get it,' but, after all, Sparks is 'art'-rock, and with all art/artists; either you 'get it' or you don't. While the guy in question may not have appreciated it, he did, at least, experience it; that alone should count for something.

  • Comment removed

  • To be honest, I haven't a clue what the origional comment meant by 'get it' either, but went with it. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough; 'getting it' or not 'getting it' is not as important as experiencing; that is all I meant.

No, the Mael brothers (singer/keyboardist) - to the best of my knowledge - are not gay. They're approaching, if not already in, their sixties by now. Was there one or the other of them you were interested in?

  • Hillarious!! He's just being part of the artrock scene. Thats just his look. some of them did that, just posing weird like that. like they had a camera on them 24 hrs. lol

  • Heh heh heh... Good point. But he looks more like a denizen of Long Beach, Oceanside or Venice than an 'art-rocker,' though.

  • true. sad for him that he doesn't get the art style performance. Truly Genius Band!!!!

  • He'd rather be watching Grand Funk Railroad.

  • This is a great band on top form.

    R.I.P. Dinky.

  • Glad the second part of this got to be uploaded. Several years ahead of its time and influential on British musicians (far too weird and androgynous for the Americans). In 1978 this would be considered the height of New Wave in the UK.

Isn't there some campaign to try and finally get the Americans to recognise one of their greatest bands and get them in the Hall of Fame?

  • @keith904A That's a great idea and a noble sentiment , but sadly we're not smart enough here to do that.........but luckily Justin Beiber is making a movie about his life and it should be a big hit. "sigh"

  • awesome. thanks for posting.
