  • I've been collecting video games almost my entire life. This video helped me alot thanks!

  • "Like an ass oh yea" lol

  • 0.00 -0.18 mute

  • Man, you weren't kidding about thrift stores. Just today I managed to pick up a copy of Devil May Cry 1 dirt cheap at one of them. Thanks!

  • where do you live?

  • you r right

  • do you know if you can get manuals for PS2 games? if so, do you know where? i have some games that don't have manuals & it sort of bothers me lol

  • @MK1Stig Check Ebay

  • u know u could still use an hdtv and have older systems look great with the proper use of cables right?

  • @smurfmaf1a Yeah i know that buut i said the reason is because of using the old light guns, they don't register on lcd and plasma tv's etc

  • @AlphaOmegaSin CRT computer monitors work with light guns.

  • @dimmddr1 i heard about that but never got to give it a shot myself. anytime i was playing some kinda light gun game through an emulator i just used the mouse lol

  • @AlphaOmegaSin If you hook up a Dreamcast via VGA, you can use the gun to shoot zombies. If you have SNES9x GX on a Wii, you have the option of using the Wii remote as an emulated light gun. If you are emulating on a computer, you could get an EMS Topgun which acts as a mouse. The Topgun series also work with XBox and PS2 on LCD and other non-CRT displays. Check it out.

  • @AlphaOmegaSin Any display that scans should work, progressive displays won't. But yeah, curved CRT displays seem to work the most accurately. Cool videos man. :)

  • lol love the fades in this vid.

  • thanks to your tips i snagged a copy of illusion of gaia for 8 bucks!

  • I have bought 360 games that wound up with the center crack you mentioned...but the 360 has a tray..so...how did anyone....damn, people are stupid. -.-

  • you and avgn inspired me to become a collector

  • thanks so much Alpha,i am a 7th grader just getting into collecting and you really helped me out,i have hundreds of old games for the nes, snes, gameboy bameboy color and the n64 from my parents and i didnt have the consoles for them, now i have awesome tips to find them, thanks :D

  • your the first main video game collector on youtube to do one of these videos, THANK YOU

  • This is actually very helpful indeed. Thank you kind sir!

  • Shorten your intro, please >.<

  • Dude I can't help but stare at those games while i listen and now that i think about it i have a Sega Genesis and SNES in my closet with a few games, although I don't have nice shelving to display it on:(

  • The one dislike is from the person in East Combumfuck.

  • @Gam3Broz

    LOOLLL!

  • East bumfucker here, i have literally no flea markets around where i live and the only goodwill we have sells ONLY old clothes that smell like spoiled pickles, i hate my area. I'm never going to get the like final 3 games i need for my n64.. :\

  • Dude bleeping awesome tips!I just went on craigslist and tons of systems dirt bleeping cheep.

  • Video Game Collecting Tip: BUY VIDEO GAMES!

  • Is there any flat CRT tv that I can play PS2 games comfortably on? I don't have enough space in my room for a big ass tube tv lol

  • Great tips

  • I have a spyro year of the dragon game it has a 3D cover I wonder if it's special any help

  • This video has a lot of great advice. I'm a younger gamer, 17, who was not allowed to own games until I was 8, and even then my parents heavily restricted my gaming. As a result, now that I'm older and more independent I've started getting around to collecting great older stuff I missed out on. I really appreciate videos like this from collectors helping out other games, so thanks a ton. Game on, bro.

  • Who the Fuck disliked this?

  • @SkullForce4 its 2/5/12 right now in so-cal and this kick ass video still only has 1 dislike.

  • @oakviewlifer I know. Who did it? I mean, there is no reason to dislike it unless you are a collector already and disagree with the way Alpha goes to collect things.

  • @SkullForce4 its 2/7 at 11;20 in the am in socall still only one filth stain

  • @oakviewlifer Oh, SoCal. I live in NorCal. Good afternoon to ya.

  • one time I went to a garage sale and got Tekken 3 in perfect condition!

  • I just found a 20inch EDTV at a Goodwill for $60 in near perfect condition (was only missing remote) when they were selling for around $100 more on Amazon (most of them beat up) and that made my whole week. I bought it just to use my PS2 since my HDTV makes it completely unbearable.

  • I have 32" Sony Wega flat screen tube TV and all the light guns work perfectly on it. Plus the screen looks much sharper on them.

  • South Cabumfuck is where da gangstaz live yo

  • 4:12 East Combumfuck...luv and that that place XD

  • It will be hard to collect for this generation of games. You won't be able to replay half of them because they are locked into online accounts and servers which will be long dead. Not to mention the downloadables which will no longer exist when the servers get swapped over to the next biggest thing.

  • @PixelOutlaw I hear ya , people growing up with this generation of games will not get the full nostalgia treatment when they try to play their old games.

  • Best at used games nightowljrm

  • hey dude whats your 3ds code?

  • is goodwill.org the right place?

  • @AsumGamer Absolutely not. Their shipping is ridiculous. =x I've never gotten a good deal there.

  • thx

  • 04:12 Actually, I live in West Cobumfuck....

  • i found a super nintendo with mario kart for 5 bucks at the goodwill

  • This helped me alot (:

  • gamestop is the best!

  • @TGCReborn You can't actually believe that... XD

  • i recomend glyde.com, is an amazing website to buy new and used games at really cheap prices

  • @ussreagan i went there today. 3 ps2 games $15

  • @jamvaldez226 I know!! thats how awesome it is.

  • To help everyone out Shopgoodwill . com is great you can get sweet deals you gotta bid but the website is run by Goodwills around the country. I got a Boxed Saturn for $30 and a Complete SNES for $20. Really great site.

  • Got a PS3 controller at Goodwill for $5 Great Deal, an original Gameboy for $7, another deal Mario Party 4 Complete for $2 and a Gamecube for $4

  • I use an App for my iphone that i have scanned all my games into and wish lists. It helps me no end. I can see a games and may not be sure if i have it yet (havent played it yet or somthing) i can also see everything i want in the palm of my hand. Its called Hooked In Motion and its the games version (they do books and music and dvd as well)

  • if you want to buy that fat old tv like, dont be surprised when you'll recieve your electric bill...

  • @TuxmanV2 yea for sure! i dont think he mentioned pawn shops! i found ocarina of time there for about 6 bucks and majoras mask too. Its all about the secondhand stuff really.

  • my personal heaven for games is Flea Markets!

  • Some great tips there!!!

  • I got some tips! Look in thrift stores! i found a copy of final fantasy 7 for 2 bucks! i was able to obtain an xbox 360 controller at a half price books for 10 bucks and it came with the device that lets you connect it to the computer (wireless)

  • @Hotcheetos91 Best places are thrift stores in the shit hole parts of NJ, FF IV for 2, Virtual boy $5 etc.

  • Thanks for the tips

  • 50$ for a saturn and cords plus controller, does anyone know if thats a good deal?

  • @Logicfray not really

  • 7:05 lol I have a game that has a crack from the center all the way out to the edge and it still works (lets see an Xbox do that lol). The game is Disc World btw...

  • the flat screen crt's works with the guns also

I had one and all the gun games work on it. Preferably time crisis on both ps1 and ps2

  • look online is the best option, alot of my game stores around here are a huge ripoff.

  • You have helped me in my quest for the "Saturn"

  • I got a Nintendo GameCube with a memory card and three controllers and a bunch of games for £20 at the Carboot sale :)

  • i recently bought a mario game and watch off ebay for 30 bucks, not cheap but they go for upwards of 80 bucks on the same site. so do some research and don't react on impulse.

  • my friend has a 40" mitsubishi tube.

  • imagine tv's becoming collectible, whats next?

  • yea these could help me alot cuz theres still alot that i really wish to get so thanks for this :)

  • Great video bro, I do the same shit when I'm out looking for games too!

  • "East Combumfuck" I hate that place..

  • These were awesome! I've played a lot of games in my time, but I don't have a large collection since I borrow from friends a lot. I really wanna make my gameboy and ps1 collection bigger..

  • I was using a TV like this for years until it craped out (and no, it couldn't be fixed), then I got one that was even older, it craped out too after a while, so now I'm using an hd flatscreen tv. I'm just fine with this one because I don't have any games for the genesis or the ps1 that can be played with a lightgun.

  • Also checking out the insides of the game systems for bugs is good too(without dismantling it of course), since no-one wants to get something home and realize they have brang pests with them too(i once seen in rentway a newly returned stereo had some kind of little green bugs come from the inside onto the table it was setup on and when mentioned the staff ignored what they were told) and i've heard of roaches coming from people not checking electronics very well too. XD

  • Actually, i can get old tube TV's around here for free... Most people throw them out working, or put them in their yards with free signs around here.

  • @AlphaOmegaSin Thanks for the good tips and tricks! I'm trying to build up my collection slowly. Any tricks I can use to get games and consoles cheaper is welcome information for sure. :D

  • You are right about how gamestop can have an out of town store ship a game to your local store. I was able to have that done at my local gamestop and it worked out great

  • what if í dont live in the U.S and dont own a creditcard

  • @nin10do4eve Gift Cards and Paypal are also an option

  • @AlphaOmegaSin isnt paypal amermica only. and i dont own a credit card. am just 15. i dont know what gift card is. sorr but m pretty dumb when it comes to something like this :D

  • @nin10do4eve Gift cards are like credit for any given store that can be redeemed for whatever amount the card is made for like cash. they can be used in store or online. As for paypal that is something that can used worldwide

  • @AlphaOmegaSin does a local game store handout the gift card. why can i purchase it. thnxs btw. ur awsome :D

  • @nin10do4eve Yeah the gift cards can be found and purchased within various stores, you can literally call the store before you head out and ask if they have them for whatever site it is you plan on spending cash at.

  • @AlphaOmegaSin thnxs. there are more questions sure to come later down the line. oh with a uropean gift card, can i order something form america :D thnxs

  • i got chrono trigger on ps1 and need it repaired, so thanks

  • Hey now, East Kabumfuck isn't that bad ;P

  • thanks very much for the heads up Alpha!

    Great video!

  • I LOVE that PS3 uses Blu-ray discs. I've bought many games used because I hate platinum/greatest hits etc., and NONE of them has had any scratches, not even small ones. (Blu-ray discs is spin-coated, using a scratch-resistant and antistatic coating on them.)

  • Comment removed

  • alpha, you forgot to mention details about the conditions of labels on cartridges...something i find crucically important when collecting for atari 2600, nes, snes, genesis, etc...and, avoiding those cheesy generic jackets that gamestop and other retailers put discs in when the original jacket is missing.

  • I still have two CRT TVS in my house. I am so keep those with me. My family wants to get rid of them, but secretly, I know I want them. I would love to play those old games with a nicer resolution and smoothness on these TVS, because you can see how awfully pixelated they can be on those HD TVs.

Some games are rare and hard to find cheap like Conker's Bad Fur Day and so you can be out of luck. I had fears Tales of the Abyss 3DS would run out of copies and be sold expensively, so I bought early

  • 03:37 "alpha-gun-flex" FTW XD

  • Some 40 year old guy in my neighbor hood is a seller, takes all the good stuff in the area.

  • Comment removed

  • still trying to track down a copy of Banjo and tooie lol

not having any luck though :P

  • Got snes for 10 bucks.

  • Just got legend of dragoon and ff7 for 40 bucks on ebay. :)

  • old tvs are heavy shit

  • My girlfriend loves goodwill, great store!

  • hahaha dude u got radiant historia to reacentlly? lol i did the exact same thing last week it took them 3 weeks to get it to me. they sent it to the wrong gamestop.

1 printing makes it so hard to find. i was getting for a friend who was so impatient

  • i bought megaman x5 for ps1 for like 7 bucks. and it had a ring kinda like 360 games get, and it completely wont work.

  • my local thrift store has a mario rpg [no box or manual] for $99.99

i wonder if they have been watching storage wars and think all old

nintendo items go for like $10,000

  • @TheSegataSanshiro I lol'd whenever they told the guy that his NES was worth like $10.

  • @TheSegataSanshiro its worthless lol. why? if the fucking virtual console has it whats the point?

mario rpg was a shitty game anyways. It suffered major slowdown on boss levels.

  • @BigPWilly123 Mario RPG is awesome. Don't understand why you hated it. Whatever.

  • Get RCA output if you can! RF sucks.

  • Fleemarket's are AWSOME! Getting cheap stuff in there is easier then on the internet. Luck has it that my town has about 30 fleemarkets in there... thats no joke there actually is 30 + fleemarkets here.

  • awesome tips dude! listen to this dude he knows what he;s talking about

  • Happy for you... Radiant Historia is one of the best RPG ever made IMO with Chrono Trigger, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, FF VI, FF IV, Suikoden II, III and all the other big name

  • i don't collect really. i just see stuff in thrift stores and flea markets that looks good and cheap and get. i don't try and find stuff really. right now i have over 400 games on 10 systems. sure not that many compared to others but it is stuff i want to play. some games i know nothign about but looks interesting enough to get and cheap. why i got phantom dust for $2. it really isn't a bad game but didn't know when got.

  • @james42519 i never paid more then $20 for a new game. used it is usually $10 and below unless it is a good game and then i still won't go over $20 usually. sure i could have got warriors for close to $20 used that i seen everywhere but i got it for $5 because i could wait till i found cheap. i have a sharp xflat tv and don't have trouble when old systems. never using my chek card online. venders at flea market can be good and bad. good because always there bad because can charge whatever.

  • @james42519 i always have trouble finding yard sales here it seems. too much gas just to drive around and look too it seems. the jfj pro machine are the best i seen th fix scratches. will never use a scratch dr. those thing never work. family video has scratch repair machine that looks like a computer that works alright i guess.

  • I agree tube T.V's are brilliant for generally playing retro games as some HD t.v's also pix-elate the games quality as well as charity shops, car boot sales and markets are gold mines

  • you can buy a av converter for retro systems

  • I keep a piece of paper, pen, and the list of games that I'm looking for with me at all times.

Because I don't believe in cellular devices.

  • @Brucer420 lol i actually have a pick list as well that i keep in my wallet but it's of comics in various series so i remember which issues i need :P

  • @AOS This is off-topic, but did you see the latest screens for Naughty Dog's Last of Us? Guess where it's taken place. The Burg baby!

  • @vmfhavok lol yeah i had just seen that today, pretty cool to see the homettown get some love between that and fallout :P

  • What a gangsta looking thumbnail of a video you got AOS lol

  • @byakugan03 I seen it when it came out and not much I didn't know in terms of Zappers working on Tube tv's

  • videogames pricecharting That's all you need. And as for old TV's, flat screen tube will work, along it's not HD

  • Never knew you could have shipping towards different locations thanks :D!

  • Great tips! And this is coming from another retro game hunter.

  • After hearing about you raving about Goodwill so much, I went to my nearest one.

I have to say, I was thoroughly disappointed. I was expecting tons of PS2, Gamecube, DS, etc games. All I could find was sports games for the PS2.

  • @MultiPrismatic Goodwill and Savers are great places, but you'll rarely see anything good, but when you do it's like an orgasm bargain! I bought an original Xbox at Savers for $5 with a controller and all of the wires! I also got an original Game Boy with NBA Jam and Tetris for only $7. The Game Boy looked brand spankin' new. You'll save a lot of money if you pay a visit to those stores every now and then. Keep hunting!!

  • @MultiPrismatic you just gotta go back often, you aren't always gonna find stuff since it's dependent on what thy got sent to them. sometimes you score big sometimes you get jackshit lol

  • @MultiPrismatic the goodwill near my location ALWAYS changes their inventory. you gotta keep checking every now and then, once i was able to buy a bundle of NES games for 3 bucks, and the next day i saw new ds games for half price! ... which vanished the next day... just gotta keep looking man.

  • heyyy,eascabumfuck is a nice place

  • In 2006...there was a yard sale....near my house.....There was a game there that was called Marvel vs Capcom 2...for the ps2....the person was selling it for 15 bucks...I checked the game and it was in mint condition....I bought it without a second thought...well there went my food money....but then I asked why did she sell the game...just curious.....she said that she was getting rid of her ex-boyfriends stuff...If people live in L.A. a good place to look for A LOT of games is at Frank n sons

  • I'll remember this. Very helpful. I am starting to collect retro games and hopefully can get a pretty good collection.

  • Alpha, do you lift? You seem pretty toned.

  • @jrn2b i do but only curling weights, don't have room for a bench at the moment lol also do pushups as well, those aare nice cause they can be done anywhere :D

  • @AlphaOmegaSin do pull ups they get your arm muscles up to the max!!! :D

  • Awesome collecting tips video! I definitely keep my iPhone handy to check out price, and do comparisons before making a decision if something is a good deal. I agree with you that Thrift stores and flea markets are the nest ways to get retro games. I have scored various valuable games this way. But there are a lot of times when I find nothing, but persistence is key. Anyway, you stated many useful and helpful advice, and once again, awesome video!

  • i got pacman 2 for snes for 2$ at a flea market

  • i got pacman 2 for snes for 2$ at a flea market

  • I got MK 2011 from the pawnshop for $20. Its 3 months strong going

  • whats the song called at the beginning of your vids?

  • @captcharismafan Let me know if you find out. I've checked out a lot of videos from "GodsImmortalGauntlet" (the one whom made the soundtrack) but can't figure out what the intro soundtrack is called or where it's at.

  • @DisturbedKoala it kinda sounds like unbound soul but it sounds alittle different

  • Wow! Very awesome tips! Thanks so much for this! I have been in the old school gaming mood lately and have been thinking about getting a bunch of classic games myself. This video arrived right on time! Thanks again, Alpha!

  • like an ass ohhh yeah

  • Actually flat tube TV's do work with the zapper at least for me

  • @thenintendogamer go to clan of the gray wolf and watch his last video about the tv's. he explains in a long way but it tells the facts about tvs and zappers specifically

  • And everything

  • Thanks man, great tips!

  • thanks for the gun advice i just got a nes and got the zapper and thought it was broke well i was using it on a lcd duhhh me lol

  • There's this thrift store in my area. I found The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakining DX for $4. Probably one of the best deals I've ever found.

  • I really don't have any good places here in florida!!! Even if I do find something good, the price is so high i'm like OMG!!!

  • Great tips :) Best find of my life - sealed copy of Super Mario World at a thrift store. Even if you never come across those kinds of rare finds, there's always something good at stores like those.

  • I have actually been on a CRT (Old tube style TV) craze lately. I have found that there are really nice flat screen ones with great picture and newer tubes 2002-2006 that still work great with light guns! If you want to be able to play lightgun games on the flat screen CRT just make check a few things. #1 It cant say "HDTV or HDTV ready" #2 It cant have greater than 60hz and #3 it cant have a 3d digital comb filter. I have like 6 CRTs now. I would stockpile them if I could.

  • i fuckin love your videos bro!

  • Super Mario 3D Land for $15? Bwawhawhaaaaaat? I want to go to your Goodwill.

  • good tips cheers bro

  • Also another good point to pass on. Find a "guy" that can order shit in for you. I have a friend who used to be a seller at the flea market here, and what he has is ridiculous. On top of that, he orders me shit in, and I pay him for it in return. Hell, I even got him to replace a dud cartridge and a coaxial cable with an A/V cable for my N64!

  • Great Advice x2

I use to go to thrift stores a lot but the employes started buying the games, its been a year since I found anything good total BS

Kijiji or Craigslist, Ebay, country pawn shops and local retro game shops have been the best for me so far.

  • My friends usually call me 6 times a week asking if they are getting ripped off from some product... most of the time the products cost(at least) 25% more at the store...

  • i was on my way to the park to meet up with some friends then i saw a garage sale from this elderlly couple i said why not and i checked out their movies, mostlly christian movies nothing particularlly special then i see the games all educational and then i found an un opened case of FINAL FANTASY 7 i nearlly freaked out cuz i just got a psx a month before and had no games to play it, and they sold the game to me for 2 bucks!!!!

  • I actually have one of those said televisions it's so old it has a VCR built into it :P

  • Great Advice
