Does this run inside linux or is it its own bootable OS? I just bought a Giada Atom 330 + ION net top and am trying to figure out how to get it to work with my big MKV collection.
I'm sure it looks better in person, as sometimes trying to capture things like this don't come out as good as they look in person but it still looked really good on the video. Is it an Intel Atom CPU or something with more horsepower to help out the ion chip? very nice vod thanks for sharing
@kiddfroster with 512MB of ram for the video I understand it's not bad, but the Atom to me seems a bit too weak to compliment the Ion. on HD Nation Robert Heron built an Atom Ion HTPC and on high speed net it stutters and lags but it's due to the Atom CPU not the Ion GPU nice vids man :)
@experimental0000 Well the Ion complements the Atom. I saw that video from HD Nation, and as long as it plays back the videos fine, that's pretty much all you have to worry about in an HTPC.
XBMC also known as Xbox Media Center. It's what Boxee was built off of. It's 100% free and it supports multiple platforms. Windows, Linux, the xbox, etc.
Hmm.. Interesting. I know it's a ION decoding the video, but is the card based on a Intel Atom 230 or 330 CPU? How much RAM does one really need to play content smoothly? Is 1 GB enough? I'm also wondering if there is any way to get a hold of a ION box with S-VHS out, as I've currently only have a old high-quality CRT TV, and I'm not ready to get rid of it just yet.
If I want to run 1080p bluray movies with xbmc on linux which is the best acer nettop to get which has HDMI? Do I really need to go for 2GB ram and large hdd??
Using VDPAU.. does XBMCLive use VDPAU for ALL types of video? The video here shows iPlayer HD running without a hitch (even tho it is FLASH video) - which is usually a stinker on the ION platform.
The other popular HD flash video website is YouTube itself. (accessible through XBMC using a plugin).
Can you confirm please, do these run perfect and smooth in XBMCLIve, or do they suffer?
XBMCLive boots from button press to XBMC in 26seconds on my Revo, without any custom kernel hacking what-so-ever. Suspend/Resume is also a viable option.
hes using Nvidias refernce system. they do not sell it. its for demos. u have to build the computer. they board is sold by zotac. its a mini itx board. look at my channel for a vid of the board in production. its for my htpc

It has a vga out port that can be converted to composite with software and hardware, so it is possible to use old tv's.

the video card the ion platform uses is the geforce 9300. I would say at least 2 gigs of RAM, but it could depend on what you want to do.

Yes, it uses VDPAU for all h264 and for HD mpeg2, so iplayer is accelerated, as would be YouTube videos.

Linux does it best when it comes to xbmc.
Still got it running on my xbox. Really hope they won't give up support which seems to be the case.

Good to hear. I have found a link about xbmc live on the asrock.
8bitpir8 2 years ago
Exactly, especially when xbmc on the original Xbox was less than 5 seconds to boot.
bjoeg 2 years ago
XBMC still supports XBox, feel free to continue to use it, but some things are worth having a boot time > 5 seconds!
m0td2k 2 years ago
But but but, good old Xbox cannot handle HD streams, so MUST HAVE ION!

xbox media centre, was originally a homebrew app to turn the original xbox into a media PC, has since been ported to linux.
