  • Does this run inside linux or is it its own bootable OS? I just bought a Giada Atom 330 + ION net top and am trying to figure out how to get it to work with my big MKV collection.

  • BTW is that 2012 1080P? because it didn't fill up the whole screen?

might be stupid question yeah but i just think it's kinda weird?

  • @fantasmaofdoom

i guess its the cinema version its 22:9 instead of 16:9

  • I'm sure it looks better in person, as sometimes trying to capture things like this don't come out as good as they look in person but it still looked really good on the video. Is it an Intel Atom CPU or something with more horsepower to help out the ion chip? very nice vod thanks for sharing

  • @experimental0000 The Ion chip is more than capable of handling it. :P

  • @kiddfroster with 512MB of ram for the video I understand it's not bad, but the Atom to me seems a bit too weak to compliment the Ion. on HD Nation Robert Heron built an Atom Ion HTPC and on high speed net it stutters and lags but it's due to the Atom CPU not the Ion GPU nice vids man :)

  • @experimental0000 Well the Ion complements the Atom. I saw that video from HD Nation, and as long as it plays back the videos fine, that's pretty much all you have to worry about in an HTPC.

  • 2x faster with Clarkdale

  • I want that frikkin box so bad! :3

  • @vbobkovsky lol, me too, what is it about that little shit?! I want it THAT small with the Nvidia logo. lol

  • is that iPlayer playing in America? thats hot . .

  • what kind of "mediacenter" is this? Whats the name?

  • read the description -.-

The os is Ubuntu Hardy Heron i think and the "Mediacenter" is XBMC => Xbox Media Center - Google for it

  • XBMC also known as Xbox Media Center. It's what Boxee was built off of. It's 100% free and it supports multiple platforms. Windows, Linux, the xbox, etc.

  • @Magnuspire and why the explanation?

  • nice

  • what kind of case is it ? where can i order it ?

  • Cool. I'm looking forward to a ION netbook. That way I could make some GL programming everywhere.

  • So cutie!!! <3

  • Hmm.. Interesting. I know it's a ION decoding the video, but is the card based on a Intel Atom 230 or 330 CPU? How much RAM does one really need to play content smoothly? Is 1 GB enough? I'm also wondering if there is any way to get a hold of a ION box with S-VHS out, as I've currently only have a old high-quality CRT TV, and I'm not ready to get rid of it just yet.

  • It has a vga out port that can be converted to composite with software and hardware, so it is possible to use old tv's.

  • the video card the ion platform uses is the geforce 9300. I would say at least 2 gigs of RAM, but it could depend on what you want to do.

  • If I want to run 1080p bluray movies with xbmc on linux which is the best acer nettop to get which has HDMI? Do I really need to go for 2GB ram and large hdd??

    Many thanks in advance

  • Yes, it uses VDPAU for all h264 and for HD mpeg2, so iplayer is accelerated, as would be YouTube videos.

  • Thank you, this news has me over the moon! And thank you for such a fast response!

  • Something I need to find out:

Using VDPAU.. does XBMCLive use VDPAU for ALL types of video? The video here shows iPlayer HD running without a hitch (even tho it is FLASH video) - which is usually a stinker on the ION platform.

The other popular HD flash video website is YouTube itself. (accessible through XBMC using a plugin).

Can you confirm please, do these run perfect and smooth in XBMCLIve, or do they suffer?

  • Linux does it best when it comes to xbmc.

Still got it running on my xbox. Really hope they won't give up support which seems to be the case.

  • Excellent. I am always looking for a decent option to avoid increasing Microsofts prescence in my home. Nice vid. Thanks

  • cool, Remote worked out of the box?because LIRC is a right pain in the rectum...

  • what remote are you using? My Windows MC remote (RC-6) does not want to work with XBMC on Ubuntu. Great Video btw

  • I'm using a Playstation 3 Bluray remote, with a cheapo bluetooth dongle

  • dammit! I want this!, I wanna build somethin like this! but I don't have the dough~

  • almost a whole minute from turn on to xbmc available... that would be painful.

  • XBMCLive boots from button press to XBMC in 26seconds on my Revo, without any custom kernel hacking what-so-ever. Suspend/Resume is also a viable option.

  • Good to hear. I have found a link about xbmc live on the asrock.

  • Exactly, especially when xbmc on the original Xbox was less than 5 seconds to boot.

  • XBMC still supports XBox, feel free to continue to use it, but some things are worth having a boot time > 5 seconds!

  • But but but, good old Xbox cannot handle HD streams, so MUST HAVE ION!

  • hes using Nvidias refernce system. they do not sell it. its for demos. u have to build the computer. they board is sold by zotac. its a mini itx board. look at my channel for a vid of the board in production. its for my htpc

  • NVIDIA ION + XBMC/BOXEE = WIN.

    Thanks for this video!

  • which skin r u using?

  • MediaStream by Team Razorfish

  • Where can you buy this? I can't see it anywhere. I'm very interested for one of these ion pc's.

  • Newegg

  • where did you get one?

  • Newegg

  • no they sell the motherboard not the computer

  • So? Just build your own.

  • well no shit sherlock but its not the nvidia ion desktop i want to know where i can get that

  • NVIDIA were kind enough to loan me the reference unit, the case isn't available commercially, which is a massive shame

  • i do want one so bad but good luck with yours

  • that's it. I'm getting one of those! :-) Although I think I'll "play it safe" and go for the dual core version. :-) Fantastic video m0td2k!

  • Wow! haha this video is amazing! The quality is great and it is very informative.

    Thanks for posting!

  • what is xbmc media center but what does xb mean

  • xbox media centre, was originally a homebrew app to turn the original xbox into a media PC, has since been ported to linux.

  • Also OS X and Windows.

  • nice video, thanks for your work on VDPAU. Which remote are you using to control that ion?

  • Hurrah for the uneducated!

  • Do you think it will take long before XvBA/VA API will be supported in XBMC?

  • great review, thx you
