People criticize, but that was a save. These ideas of worrying too much about a tube, drugs and a line as opposed to ABCs are killing people. I don't undersatand how people could still continue to eat junk food and drink Coca Cola after watching this video! What part of this video do you not understand???
Sorry MrEMT I meant EMSgirl, she watching to much third watch, here we call ems workers like you that criticize others Tracy traumas or Ricky rescues. Your obviously not a Paramedic. Actually only bad thing that medic did wrong was not delegate cpr to a lesser trained rescuer while he prepares his equipment to perform advanced interventions.
It easy so to run your sewer MrEmt or wannabe emt, since your not the one on the hot seat, the Paramedic initiated cpr then he realized he had his cardiac monitor so he patched him up determined he was in course vfib so he sparked him instead and got a perfusing rhythm. It about right.
@mentosM4N Often times fire companies are called out to assist with critical patients. They are used for man power, extra hands for lifting, and additional providers.
I'm afraid of my dad having a heart attack )'; he's overweight but hes also disabled and only just able to walk, but not to any long distance so he cant exercise to lose weight..
I know this has obviously been said hundreds of times already, but hasn't he ever looked in the mirrior and thought "Shit... Im actually overweight, this is not good for my health".
@shecklergirl92 I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT...BUT I AM MEDIC AND ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY...I WOULD DO IT FOR FREE...BUT I UNDERSTAND WERE YOU ARE COMING FROM
@MrEmt19 if you ever wanted to see a video of of how not to do cpr you should def check this video out..the cpr did nothing good thing the pt.s heart lapsed into a shockable rhythm because if he was in asystole he would have been a done deal! i find alot of the times these older medics on fire departments are very lazy after 20 years and your doing cpr that way you probably should hang it up!
i hope this is dramalization, because the paramedic didnt even do the chest compressions right both hands on sternum,do 30 at a rate of 100 per minute, make sure you atleast get 1/4 of chest witdth down and defintaly lock your arms, come on man
@EMSgirl1989 Im sorry not trying to be rude or anything but,if you where a paramedic you would know he did nothing wrong for the CPR part,he or any paramedic would not do chest compressions the way you said in your comment, thats delaying the survival time, paramedics have higher skilled equipment, that save many more lives than normal CPR,civilians will do what you said to preforme CPR,or when we're not at work, just a heads up.
every one should realise how important life really is, dont waste it, make the most of it, a heart attack can happen to anyone anytime , and its a very very serious thing, i know ag guy who was(still is) a paramedic for 25 years, he sais any type of heart attack are very serious, i feel sorry for his wife. and of course, for the man, i hopw he was ok after
Damn that's sad don't criticize, and look up in a few years your a tub of lard. Just learn, and Thank God for your life. I feel for the lady, I guess was his wife, that would scare shit out of me if that was my mom. I might faint, but cherish every moment you have on this earth.
i had a very serious heart attack in april leaving me with only 25% function in my heart. i am (was then) only 37, not overweight, cycled everyday, dont drink (hardly), and no family history, so it can happen for just about any reason and even if u dont fall into any risk factor group doesnt mean u wont have a heart attack.
In California at least, they could cut probably 4 outta 5 lazy city workers who just stand and watch one guy work on a tractor or something and give all that wasted money to the paramedics, fire dept., and police who really deserve it and have huge hearts for people.
@Hunter04j Get real pal. The guy is 300+ pounds, he wanted him to stand up and turn around. Not run a marathon. Don't armchair quarterback, if you were in that room you'd be crying and freaking out like a bitch pal.
@pianorockguy First, I have worked codes before, and I wasn't crying (though, admittedly, I was freaking out a bit inwardly). Second, it is just standard in my service to reduce the patient's strain when he/she is possibly experiencing a heart attack. It is not bold to critique that they should put him on the cot. And, just because he is heavy is not a valid excuse. Third, why can't I 'armchair quarterback' a call that is posted publicly?
OK, enough of the hating. Its always amazing to watch EMS "eat their own". Ive been doing this as an ALS provider for 17 years (US NREMT-P and Canadian ACP). Obviously this is the old ACLS guidlines, and yes its rough around the edges. You will spend every call in your career trying to perfect the flow of assessment. Theres not a damn medic working who hasnt done a "stand and sit" on a CP call. Anybody who says otherwise is a liar or a student. Quit throwing stones. The guys did their best.
@rotothemeo usually 6 months minimum of EMT experience in a high call volume EMS system before you can even apply. Then you are looking at between 1-2 years of actual; paramedic school depending on the school. Most require you have Anatomy/physiology I and II, psychology, math for health care providers and medical terminology classes done before applying as well.
Uh...having been an ALS Paramedic for 25 years...do you think if the patient had been monitored and at least a half assed assessment been carried out before this idiot had stood his patient up..this whole thing might have been avoided?!!!!
I'd be laughing if it wasn't so pathetic! I wonder what he would have done if his, quote 'difibilation:, unquote..would have failed? This patient was lucky indeed!
so was this guy working for a hospital? or where was he working? cuz i want to become a paramedic but i dont want to be a fireman...so where would be the best place to work? cuz he seemed to be working for not a specific hospital.
@213Gremlin depends on where you live. most major cities have had their fire departments take on the EMS system in order to justify the cost of their shiny fire fighting gear, and outrageous salaries. there are some great systems out there though that are hose jockey free. But i dont know what state you live in so....
EMT basics can have EKG in their scope. I'm a basic and have the 12 lead certification. Unfortunatly basics can't report what was on the monitor or call cardiac alerts. At least according to my protocol in Denver
I have nothing but the utmost respect for these men and women. I'm relatively new to the profession [coming up on 4 years as a first responder, and I just got my EMT-B cert last December], and I hope to one day successfully fill the shoes of those who came before me.
North America alone has the highest rate of Cardiac Arrest than all of South America, Asian, Europe, and Africa combined, thanks to a combination of fatty fast food and lazy overweight Americans. Please people help save yourself out by eating healthy and exercising. It will save you tons of money and most importantly, your lives.
as a nurse i attend codes frequently and if it were not for paramedics getting these patients to us we would lose alot more.....the first few minutes are critical.asprin, oxygen and nitro before they get to the e.r. gives them a better outcome.
@Internethugg yeah im a little bummed its oprahs channel now. no more trauma life in the ER anymore... i dont get the channel it plays on now. god damnit oprah
@knpdyeballarice i know what you mean i was so pissed when oprah took aver the channel i used to watch Trauma Life in the ER all the time with my 16 year old brother witch wants to work in the ER and i found it amussing because when he found the show i was a rookie paramedic,i cant belive how long its been since if seen that show:( i wish oprah would quit.
@ParamedicRescue0246 omg! i finally know somebody who hates oprah for taking discovery health channel, Trama: Life in the ER was my favorite show...it was very informative to me. I'm a emt-basic in southern illinois about to start medic school.
@xn117 Are you kidding me? Paramedics don't save lives?! Obviously you know nothing about the service or the job. I can think of many many many situations and scenarios where EMTs and EMT-Ps have and can save lives. Yes maybe 95% of the time we are only packaging patients and transporting them to the hospitals, but its that 5% where without the EMT/Ps the patients would have been dead, and had no chance.
@xn117 Then if you or someone you know has been in a car wreck, or having a critical medical emergency and dying, they can get to the hospitals themselves since they'll be in "Stable Condition." What a damn ignorant thing to say....
Being this overweight is not good for ANYONE's heart. Ever. There is never a reason to be this overweight. Your heart just can't take it nor should it have too. While some heart attacks and cardiac arrest are not caused by lifestyle factors, a good number are. To prevent those kind of heart attacks eat healthy in small portions and exercise. Bravo to all paramedics out there, you are awesome saving lives.
@KJT922010T I'm sorry to hear that. My dad was hit by a car in 08, while in the ER suffered a massive heart attack. Was put in a medically induced coma for 3weeks... The doctor's gave him a 10% chance of surviving. Even had to medivac him to University of Michigan Hospital's Cardiac ICU... he survived... it was very scary.
Paramedic are Heros they are trly the backbone to socity when some dials 911 wit a medica problem who comes the police no by law no the paramedic. and theyy are horibley nder paye they ave to deal with someone dieing and living with that THEY ARE TRUE HEROS
@dudeanddude100 EMT basics cannot do the heart monitor, intubate, most drugs ect.... Paramedics can do all of this. So EMTs just have a smaller set of skills to master. That being said, before everyone jumps my ass, there are good EMTs and shitty medics. Id rather have a good EMT work on me.
@vetitoe362 technically you can do the heart monitor. I'm in an EKG class right now and currently a certified EMT-B and my EKG class is a certificate class that will allow me to use the EKG. It's just an EKG class alone, not part of a paramedic course (even though it's a pre-req for the paramedic course for the JC I'm at. Just doing it for fun) :)
At 3:09 was that rescue breathing or that 2 breaths for CPR? But that was right after a shock. Are you supposed to reassess after a shock, or continue CPR/AED?
@bboyflapps Well, you have to keep in mind that this was a long time ago, when American Heart Association had different standards and algorithms than they currently do. However by current standards, if you defib someone in an arrest rhythm (like he had VFib), you immediately go to compressions and reassess the rhythm and pulse after 2min or 5 cycles of CPR.
I had a massive Heart Attack in 2007 and thankfully for the paramedics and the great british NHS system I have lived another 3 years at least. Thanks guys
Paramedics really aren't underrated. If anyone here has worked in a trauma center in a hospital, all you hear about is the fire fighters and paramedics doing the life saving.
i love this job. speaking for myself, i may make crap as far as money is concerned, work long hours, get bled on, puked on, cussed out, have family members and the odd patient try to pick fights with me, and be blamed for all manner of unreasonable things, but I know over all, I've been given the gift and knowledge to be able to fight against illness, injury, and death, and even though none of us can win that battle all the time, the ability to help and heal far outweighs the stress of the job.
@Helcomlatly basically you need to ingrain everything in the book, into your head. its all memorization. if you can memorize it all and get to the point to where it comes naturally, and know how to improvise when needed, you'll be ok. just watch out for the practical exam after your course. some of the instructors will mess with you and you have to be able to think quickly and get it all done correctly without freezing up from the stress
@Helcomlatly study hard man....know ur stuff cuz if u do become one and u fuck up out there in da field u WILL look bad. Im getting ready myself to do da state exam im done with da course.
Amazing! I can't wait to finish College and become a paramedic! "Craeli", you hit it on the money... these men and woman are heros for sure! "helloimcalledbob", stick to your dreams and you'll do wonders.
A good team of paramedics recently brought a loved one of mine back to life. I could never thank them enough. They are greater heros than they could ever know.
I didnt see them administer two rescue breaths with BVM initially before starting CPR... nor did they continue rescue breaths with BVM. and why are they only using a non-rebreather mask before transport?
@newportb0x 2010 guidelines are that you give compressions first. The blood still has good saturation levels, it's just a matter of getting it moved around to perfuse the tissues. If you've been in the OR for your medic rotations, you can see that it takes a good amount of time for the patients blood O2 saturation drops really low. And he is breathing and conscious as they are moving him to the ambulance which is why they just provided O2 for him to breathe.
Ive been a Medic for 9 yrs and I must say EMS is a under rated profession! I have gone through a lot in my yrs and have even been stabbed by a patient b4! Code 99 (Code blue) is the one emergency that has to be treated on time if u wanna survive it!
@giomedic25 Underrated UNDERPAID god damnit. I'm sure most of the Meds are not in it for the money, but we have to be fair here. The only reason why EMS personnel are not paid enough is because the way EMS was developed and lack of recognition on the duty and skills it requires. More government recognition and funding to the EMS!
@medicmunoz monopolized privately owned ambulance companies and lack of government funding are at fault. the profession used to be unskilled long time ago, hence there is where the low medic pay is rooted-- in 1940s no laws required minimal training for ambulance personnel and no training programs existed beyond basic first aid existed. In many fire departments, assignment to ambulance duty became an unofficial form of punishment.
ok i'm a paramedic for the san diego fire and i been a paramedic for 2 years now YES I AM STILL A NEWBIE but now i, seen 3 mistakes that this 20 year veteran is making 1 mistake you never never never never ask a patient having a Major H.Attack. to stand up its like blowing air inside his veins that will kill him 2 mistake has soon he stop breathing INTUBE HIM get the tube get air in him and 3 mistake get that cap off wear a cap on a call means your a loser so has far im concerned he did regular
Plus, his name is Shane so...

@xn117 Are you kidding me? Paramedics don't save lives?! Obviously you know nothing about the service or the job. I can think of many many many situations and scenarios where EMTs and EMT-Ps have and can save lives. Yes maybe 95% of the time we are only packaging patients and transporting them to the hospitals, but its that 5% where without the EMT/Ps the patients would have been dead, and had no chance.
tutone316 1 year ago 2
EMTs and Paramedics don't save lifes - they package the patient in a stable condition and transport them to the hostility.
xn117 1 year ago

@website4help what is the difference of emt and paramedics
dudeanddude100 1 year ago
@dudeanddude100 EMT basics cannot do the heart monitor, intubate, most drugs ect.... Paramedics can do all of this. So EMTs just have a smaller set of skills to master. That being said, before everyone jumps my ass, there are good EMTs and shitty medics. Id rather have a good EMT work on me.
vetitoe362 1 year ago 3
@vetitoe362 technically you can do the heart monitor. I'm in an EKG class right now and currently a certified EMT-B and my EKG class is a certificate class that will allow me to use the EKG. It's just an EKG class alone, not part of a paramedic course (even though it's a pre-req for the paramedic course for the JC I'm at. Just doing it for fun) :)

At 3:09 was that rescue breathing or that 2 breaths for CPR? But that was right after a shock. Are you supposed to reassess after a shock, or continue CPR/AED?
bboyflapps 1 year ago
@bboyflapps yes you are you are allways supposed to when revivinga pacient
joshburg123 1 year ago
@bboyflapps Well, you have to keep in mind that this was a long time ago, when American Heart Association had different standards and algorithms than they currently do. However by current standards, if you defib someone in an arrest rhythm (like he had VFib), you immediately go to compressions and reassess the rhythm and pulse after 2min or 5 cycles of CPR.

i love this job. speaking for myself, i may make crap as far as money is concerned, work long hours, get bled on, puked on, cussed out, have family members and the odd patient try to pick fights with me, and be blamed for all manner of unreasonable things, but I know over all, I've been given the gift and knowledge to be able to fight against illness, injury, and death, and even though none of us can win that battle all the time, the ability to help and heal far outweighs the stress of the job.

@DarthTwilight I'm working on being a EMT any suggestions?
Helcomlatly 1 year ago
@Helcomlatly basically you need to ingrain everything in the book, into your head. its all memorization. if you can memorize it all and get to the point to where it comes naturally, and know how to improvise when needed, you'll be ok. just watch out for the practical exam after your course. some of the instructors will mess with you and you have to be able to think quickly and get it all done correctly without freezing up from the stress
DarthTwilight 1 year ago
@Helcomlatly study hard man....know ur stuff cuz if u do become one and u fuck up out there in da field u WILL look bad. Im getting ready myself to do da state exam im done with da course.

I didnt see them administer two rescue breaths with BVM initially before starting CPR... nor did they continue rescue breaths with BVM. and why are they only using a non-rebreather mask before transport?
newportb0x 1 year ago
@newportb0x It may be the editing of the film. I did see them using the BVM at one point.
I think if he was breathing well enough on his own a NR mask is fine.
dmedicFF 1 year ago

Code 99 (Code blue) is the one emergency that has to be treated on time if u wanna survive it!
giomedic25 1 year ago
@giomedic25 Underrated UNDERPAID god damnit. I'm sure most of the Meds are not in it for the money, but we have to be fair here. The only reason why EMS personnel are not paid enough is because the way EMS was developed and lack of recognition on the duty and skills it requires. More government recognition and funding to the EMS!
newportb0x 1 year ago
@newportb0x Very true. Most gov funds goes to Homeland Security and Police. I don't know too many paramedic who only work one job. Very sad.
medicmunoz 1 year ago
@medicmunoz monopolized privately owned ambulance companies and lack of government funding are at fault. the profession used to be unskilled long time ago, hence there is where the low medic pay is rooted-- in 1940s no laws required minimal training for ambulance personnel and no training programs existed beyond basic first aid existed. In many fire departments, assignment to ambulance duty became an unofficial form of punishment.
now EMS expectation has risen. SO MUST THE PAY
