  • Never heard Soft Machines version but this is great!

  • Kind of odd that Mike Ratledge was a member of Soft Machine and Mike Rutledge a member of Bloodrock. I wonder if Bloodrock found the song sue to the closeness of there names. And BTW, Soft Machine's 1st LP was just Called Soft Machine, not Volume One.

  • I know "Soft Machine" wrote this, (and I've heard it) but Blood rock does this song real justice!

I've heard some of the other versions, some good.. some really...."butcehering!"

  • I prefer The Soft Machine's version.

    Original is always better :p

But this one's good as well^^

  • thumbs up if your still listening to in 2011..i love this song

  • @turjulz THAT'S IT! Enough of you assholes who come on here pandering fucking thumbs up! What's that got to do with this song? Really, tell me! Nothing! You have such a fucking void in your pitiful life , you have to come on youtube and go " Thumbs up if your still listening!" That's pathetic. Go find a hobby, friends or something but enough of that in the goddamn comment boards

  • @clockworkmike83 ok ok im sorry ...i just like this song ok...

  • The soft Machine version is about a million times better. Nobody sings like Robert Wyatt. Nice try though...

  • really great song...

  • * * * * *

  • Okay. This makes 2 Bloodrock songs I've heard, the other one being D.O.A. I think it's pretty good. And they're from Texas? Texas makes me think of Johnny Winter, Steve Miller, ZZ Top and Point Blank. This is way different. Think I'll check out more of their stuff.

  • it reminds me of my childhood days.

    very sentimental "piano melodic" there.

i had of this record on cassette tape long time ago.

and now i looking for the album on CD's

    since of 1995 'till now.

  • Didn't know this was a Soft Machine song. All these years I have been giving Bloodrock credit for a brilliant composition. Be nice to hear it sung by a real singer. No offense Jim.

  • @mauricemorning True. They didnt write it. But have you heard the Soft Machine version. Its shit in comparison. Elvis wrote Unchained Melody and he sang it and it was horrible. The Righteous Brothers sang it and it was a hit. Nobody can sing it better than Jim.

  • @ZachChump3r

Yeah, I checked out the Soft Machine version right away and was unimpressed. I much prefer to hear Jim straining and delivering the occasional flat note. Still, my comment was about the composition of a great song. I love Bloodrock because of their flaws as much as I do in spite of them. By the way, my favorite Bloodrock song is Breach of Lease and I think on Bloodrock USA they showed unbelievable songcraft and delivered incredible performances. Thanks for the reply.

  • @mauricemorning All musicians have flaws. Nobody can be perfect. I personally love the way he sings this. You can almost see him crying there is so much emotion in his voice

  • @ZachChump3r --I have to agree. Completely.

Soft Machine version is Shit. It's so bad I don't know how it even got recorded.

The BRock version has some real tech flaws--but it sounds a million times better.

I do find myself humming this song --especially trying to do a poor Hammond B-3 sound, when I'm driving in the car.....doing my husky Rutledge voice---then that gentle piano and Sax comes thru..

Then I go right into Jessica....Don't need no stinkin' radio !! LOL!

  • @rwwagsneb Reading this made me fall out of my chair. Good times, good times.

  • nice

  • What a great band. The photo shown is the "new" line up after Lee Pickens and Jim Rutledge left.

  • Great tune! I've sang along with this for over 35 years! Great Lp ! Great highly underrated group! It's Jim Rutledge's birthday in January anyone know what day?

  • EPIC!!!!!

  • Can't tell you how many times this song got me laid, and still kept my 'cool factor' intact with my metalhead brothers. My wife still gets warm and clingie all over me when she hears it. Lately, I've been revisiting these albums, and I will tell you in no uncertain terms: time travel is possible. BTW, stonegrooved, if you listen only to the details, you've completely missed the music. Also, that's 'Whiter Shade of Pale'.

  • It's actually a cover of Soft Machine :

"A certain kind" was released on Soft Machine Volume 1 in november 1968

  • Wow... amazing song... Does anyone know the lyrics to this one?

  • can find the lyrics on google a certain kind Soft Machine Robert whyatt knocks this guy into a cock hat and makes drummer look like an novice

  • es una gran canción de la banda británica soft machine, sin embargo esta versión me es mas sugerente, gracias por subirla, greetings

  • After all this years....this song is still my favorite song...........what a great song and voice...

  • Great song.
