Joan Lunden did something very respectable here:

When most interviewers talk to several members of the band at once, everyone talks over john Entwistle. And he was so laid back, he always let it happen. Here, she specifically directs questions at him. On the Russel Harty interview from 1973(1974?), Harty tried that, but Keith Moon monopolized the whole segment. He was funny, but everybody always stepped on Entwistle. Didn't happen here, and good for her. And them.

That lineup they assembled for the 25th anniversary tour was the best ever. They had been such a schizophrenic band for so many years (live vs. studio) that it all finally came together. I wish they had kept Simon Philips, Jody Linscott, Steve Boltan, the backup singers & the brass players for a lot longer than they did & recorded an album of new songs (perhaps another rock opera) with that entire group.

Sorry but as a lifelong Who fan, I respectfully disagree...I never saw Moonie but the 1979 Tour was fantastic in that the band would let loose on various riffs and jams - set list be damned...I loved having the opportunity to see the Quad revival...the 2000 stripped down version was great ( although the set list rarely changed ). The 'greatness' of the '89 Tour was that with the extra players on stage, they could expand the set list. Otherwise, it should have been dubbed The Who On Ice...

After all if you spend long enough taking it then I'm sure you get used to it's effects after a while and don't jitter and stutter quite as much - or maybe everybody reacts to it in different ways. Perhaps that's why HE took it, because it DIDN'T have a jittery effect on him! Anyway I just mean that it won't be because of the coke that he's wearing those glasses!

Great video. I like the journalist but she has the habit that almost all TV people have - she keeps butting in and cutting them off. Pete and Roger both, separately, try to explain things and Joan cuts them off. Surprised she didn't ask them about Moon and Jones, and ask who was going to drum for them. She did mention "the four of you" in the interview, which was interesting. The Who does look young there, too. Wow. It seemed like yesterday.

Go see them if they come back to the U.S. in 2009. It's not the same with John Entwistle and Keith Moon, but The Who still is a great live band. Pete, on a good night, sounds better on guitar now. Roger's voice is deeper, but they still are great live. The best show I ever saw was them in 2000, when Entwistle was still alive. My wife still thinks the CD boot of that show is from a 1976 show with Moon, they were THAT good in 2000.
