@CountofBleck Unfortunately, 500 characters is nowhere near enough to explain why FF13 is a bad game. I do concede, however, that the battle system was pretty good.
@Broshmosh If you think ff13 is a bad game you obviously aren't story or character oriented as a player. FF13 is great for certain gamers, but terrible for some.
@Sandro17 I enjoy reading fantasy and sci fi novels often, and I know well crafted stories which explain themselves and their directions without having them so linear and repetitive. I personally do not think that Final Fantasy 13 can stand up on its legs on story, so I look towards gameplay. What I find there is enjoyable in terms of battles, and it makes me wish the story *had* been better, as I'd then think differently. I've spent a lot fo time thinking about why I dislike FF13 >_>''
I didn't see too much linearity and repetition story wise. There were many plot twists and extremely heart felt moments within the game (such as Sazs scene with Vanille in the carnival) along with much great character development. Hope turns from a whiny brat to a hero. Vanille learns how to face reality etc.
But I see where you are going when it comes to linearity to the story ADVENTURE wise. Although the story between characters IMO is what makes the story brilliant.
The entire Barthandalus leading the hero's into becoming great warriors and what not and leading them into fights is definitely boring I agree with you there.
But the story between characters such as Hope trying to kill Snow, only for Snow to accept death and Hope forgiving Snow and sparing his life out of forgiveness for the death of Hopes mum (The only family Hope feels like he has left) and other scenes like this is BRILLIANT.
@Sandro17 I'll admit the character development itself was great, but they really weren't setting themselves up to fail when the characters were so mind-numbingly annoying from the very beginning. Not a single one of them actually had any depth at their introduction (with the exception of Fang), so you can only get more deep from there onwards.
And unfortunately, character development alone doesn't make a good story for me. While important, it should only serve as part of a much wider plot.
@Broshmosh Oh you mean their intro was so shallow that it was hard to get a good grasp of the character throughout the adventure? I never really thought of that as a problem, it didn't hinder me much. Especially with how much was revealed about them throughout the game.
What I found was that character development was the story of FF13. Like I said from the beginning, it hits a certain type of gamer.

Why did such an awful game have a few really great tracks?

@Broshmosh
Maybe because it's not awful?

SPOLER ALERT
I guess what I'm trying to say is:

@Broshmosh The character development was so strong, that the shortcomings of the game seemed to dissipate.

@Broshmosh Snow is the most annoying character in the game.

@UltraPenguinx3 against the Gigantaur boss (I think). It also played some other times to do with Sazh and his Chocobo (not quite sure when).
