margate to improve it they spend 30 million on an art centre yer that will get everyone down there fucking retards people want attractions like southend fun not crap art
I used to travel down from London to Margate once a month with friends Eileen & Lynn, we knew many of the rides workers in Dreamland all from Margate as my cousins worked in Dreamland & still all live in Margate and have grow up children of their own now!......We visited Margate on the 24th July which happened to be Thanet pride....So we had Thanet pride on one side of us where we were all sitting and on the other side we had loads of African parties with BBQ's & lots of dancing on the beach :D
Prior to this fire, what exactly happened to Dreamland?
As someone from East London (now in Essex) I used to drive down to Margate almost every other Sunday with mates - then it became a fortnightly excursion once I got hitched and had a Son.
A few years ago we drove down to Matgate - the first sign things were bad was when the previously busy NCP car park looked like a bombsite. There were half a dozen rides owned by Gippos that I wouldn't have pissed on.
I loved this place before it closed down and all this shit happened... the best part was the romm that spins really fast and you get stuck to the wall XD
fukin landlord, we all know he did that on purpose! Hes bin put in jail once for trying to burn it down, and then he asks someone else to do it for him...
I can remember spending many times as a child on the beach before the looking forward to going through the short tunnel before entering the fair. My favourite was the water splash where your car would go up around and down into the water
Can I just say as a kid like millions of us we all remembered dreamland before and after Bembom brothers took over. Alienetwork do you remember the Bembom gold card?. I remember the Jolly boys outing with Del boy and co too, I even remember a club called KI KI's Truth is we can't go backwards and if Thanet Council use their loaf they will create the oportunity for a local fair to create something spectacular otherwise Taussauds will take over. I love and will always remember Margate.
Nope, I was there last week and its Derelict. It's so sad. My family have been going for years, and my Dad was a bit of a name in the 60's...he's a bit upset. Right now if you Google it you can see half of it is a car park, and only the scenic railway is still there (Grade 2 listed attraction Thanet Council) and a few umbrella ride cars on one side (but I believe they have have got stolen for the scrap)..
The car park around the back used to be crammed solid all year around, now the very few cars that park there are as close to the main road as possible due to cars being smashed up. In a word me personally "Gutted beyond words". I nearly proposed to my first girlfriend in Dreamland....very special memories.. I heard there trying to raise £4 Million to get it part rebuilt, but in the recession...seems a bit unlikely. I think the biggest thing was the memory of the Mary Rose. And clocking Mr Doo.
Nope, I live in Margate and know for a fact that the only bits left of The Scienic Railway is the two end peices of the ride, the whole middle of the ride has gone due to the fire
why dont they help the people of margate that have lived here, like the generations before them and sort margates life out. margate souly survived on tourist trade, b and bs dreamland. stop kidding people here and set uppers. theres work now, its pointless part time work, like or casual temping day a week or a month if your lucky talk about being used the buck lies with foreign owned companies a famous one lies at sandwich talk about being used !!!!!
Thanks I love and miss Margate , I moved here in 1982. I worked for the Bembom Brothers at the Dream machines Arcade for 6 years 1989/1995 and will never forget the great memorys and all the friends made. Gods sake Thanet Council wake up and scrap the Arts then rebuild the old Pier, then remake the Classic Theme Park and change all the Arcades into Classic Arcades too, 10p/ 20p a go machines.A huge Swimming pool by the sea front. Refresh winter Gardens and create Cheap day breaks. Forever Joe.
this video made me cry which sounds stupid cause it may be just a rollercoaster but really its more then that ive gone there so many times since i was born in 1994 the scenic railway was my favourite now the only things i have left are the memories and the only fools and horses jolly boys outing special cause its featured in that but last time i went it was in 2005/2006 and it was like it used to be it was a wreck and very expensive but i did love it!!
It wont get rebuilt, burnt for profit, had good memorys of this ride but now its gone for good, how many buildings in thanet have been set a lite on purpose? what happened in Ramsgate, Margate sea front? cant get planning get an arsonist? what you think Jimmy
First, I would like to thank you for taking the time and making this clip. As an American Coaster enthusiast it is alway sad to see a piece of history disappear, but these images are stunning indeed.
As a youth I have seen 3 smaller Parks close in my area (West View park, White Swann park and Rainbow) and know well the look of a closed park decaying away. But these images are definitely something else.
As a member of the Rollercoaster club of Great Britain, these images are really shocking. Good news that it's been ordered for a rebuild, as it is a grade 2 listed structure.
lmao dont be stupid, there's one guy that springs to mind, he wanted to build flats on that land but got turned down AND most of the stuff he's owned previously has mysteriously burnt down the past... hmmm
I have been to Margate so many times starting from 1984, I used to stay with my friends in Birchington. I really feel sad for Margate. It was really great place to visit and live but not anymore I believe. I haven't been there for almost 5 years now. My last visit Margate was looking rubbish.
Yes; it is very sad. Good news this week that Thanet District Council have served the owners with an order to rebuild. Up and running by Easter 2009. Wonder what odds you'd get on that?! By the way; the music is Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire (1965).
there going to rebuild it as a history fun park go to save dreamland

They never intended to do it up. It was a ploy to burn it down. Bet the owner plans to sell it for housing

Maybe they should build a disneyworld there.
