@Dubsky1678 - immediately using medicated starter high protein crumbles. if you don't use the medicated crumbles, they probably wont make it. I learned the hard way.
@soupdexter1 yeah it hurts the baby its good just to let the chick do it its own because there still might be blood in the egg. that happened to me one time when i first started i helped it there was still blood it was still alive though. and i think a day later it hatched perfectly healthy so NEVER do that.
Well we have a friend who owns a farm and he gives us eggs all the time. All I hsve to say is find a local bird farm and buy it from there I think its like a buck an egg and 6-12 $ for a quail
i am pretty sure quails will only sit on them in the wild but thats exactly what i did incubated them just like chicken eggs except i think they hatch a day or two earlier
my two girls are sitting here you need planty of leaves and pine needles for the "couple" to make a mest i put a scrap piece of plywood laying against another to where it created a little private area and put the leaves and pine needles in a bundle near the entance of the private area and the two quail made the nest a few days ago and now shes setting :) just needs a quiet are where nothing is bothering her.
they've built two nests and we've given them plenty of pine needles and grass. i wonder if all the quail lay in the same nest? maybe they get confused about which one's the Mother...
you raise quail? that is awesome. do you give any advice? my brother just got 2 baby quails from my grampa, we think they're maybe 2 or 3 weeks old, but this is our first time raising quail. if you offer advice i'd love to be able to talk to you some about it ^^
im trying to hatch five sparrow eggs im putting them under a heat lamp put i haev school and idk when they will hatch and my mom is at work does anybody know how i can take care of them
why's everyone talking about cats??? this is a quail video!"
I raised quail to release. There was a big problem with stray cats in the neighborhood and surrounding area killing off all that I had let loose. The discussion concerns killing of the strays because of 2 main reasons..
1) They kill indigenous species (cats are intruders)
2) Cats kill for the sport of it, and rarely eat what they kill in populated areas (trash bind and handouts they eat instead)
i would feel bad thats why my cats don't go outside.. and you seem to be saying we shouldn't cut down trees so the birds have enough room so the stray cats cant get them?? if stay cats only ate non native bird i wouldn't care but they eat more natives hear than introduced..
and your going to give up your home and go live in a humpy in the bush?
as for the nonprofit organisation they have no money as it is and 80% or something gets put down anyway
They don't even eat what they kill... I've watched the stray cats just kill for sport. They leave the carcasses lay to rot. That's why I just shoot them.

that is int fair to cats a lot of the damage to the bird population could be solved if we didn't deforest large areas to build houses, city's or for lumber. so its not fair to blame cats for it mainly.

im starting to breed my own so i have a supply of quail to eat. i am incubateing my first lot now.. 24 eggs in a home made incubator.. im expecting around the 25-50% sucess rate lol but atleast the ones that do hatch i know they will be strong breeders lol
I raise Cockatiels n budgies, I got a few japaneese quails and I'm getting some calafornian quails. all seem to get along fine so far. if all go's well I'm looking into breeding a few. see if I can do as well with quails as I do with the others. any tips?
I feel so terrible, these boys stole two baby quails from its mother to impress us, I was like, we can't look after them, we have to set them free, so I got the boys to take us to the place the stole them and leave them there, but they kept running after us, must have imprinted or something.. and they kept stumbling. they were so cute! it was so horrible. I just left them.. god i feel so bad!
No no, the eggs we buy aren't even fertilized, therefore never alive. The only thing in them is the goop(food) that was supposed to feed the fetus inside.
yeah a chook doesn't need a root to lay an egg. they are just unfertile. I'm sure your girl friend would stop having sex if it meant she would stop producing eggs the there for not having her period.
This video is absolutely precious. Thanks for sharing it. The miracle of life is so beautiful. I am going to show this to all the kids I know in New York City... :-)

We used to keep quails in an aviary and they had lots of young but they were so small we kept losing them to mice.
I wish we had hand reared them now and put them back when they were big enough to look after themselves.

It's cheaper and smarter to just dispatch the strays. If you take them to a pound, and they are adopted, there is always that chance that they'll get out and start killing the surrounding wildlife again.
Tamryn69 3 years ago
also how would u feel if your cats got out by accident and were killed by someones poison cat trap.

HomeDistiller 3 years ago
No I didn't eat them, I left them go hoping to try to repopulate the area but to no avail. The stray cats in the area took care of that idea.
I thoroughly advocate culling of ALL stray animals on the basis that they decimate indigenous species.

That would never happen as it is part of their beak. It is on the upper tip of the beak. It disappears within the first day after hatching.
