Reid was not out of line. He was right. It was scary how little this teacher knew about learning dissabilities and how the whole school covered for the bullies. And the father? Just because he wears an uniform they all think he is a hero? The uniform does not make a hero. There are so many military parents who do not only totally suck as parents, but who are clearly abusive. They aren't heros and the uniform cannot make that any better. Of course there are great heros in uniforms as well.
@littlewolf223 Yes, its true that a lot of people wouldn't be the strong people they are now were it not for the bullies, I just hate it when people are tortured mercilessly just because they're different. It shouldn't matter if you're gay, straight, bi, tall, short, skinny, fat or whatever nobody should be treated like that. Ever.
Well crap I just hit enter but I'll start where left off. I get bullied occasionally by the more popular kids at my school but it's never to the extent that he went through. I hate I when people group together and pick on someone helpless. It just shows they're insecure and they have to bring someone smaller down just to boost their self esteem. Sick sons of b*tches....
@zulukline Every time I was being tormented, bullied, laughed at and teased nobody would do anything about it, not even teachers, and I swore that I would NEVER let that happen to anyone else as long as I could help it, nobody deserves it and I'm sorry that it happened to you. But like you said, it just makes you stronger.
@chaelovesjesus i can say i've never been teased but my older brother who a homosexual got teased so much that he had to transfer schools and know he happily married and has a very beuitful daughter and if he hadn't been teased he would have never met him so bulling is not good but it can lead to greatness
@zulukline I know what you mean, I've been bullied relentlessly my entire life so I would be quick to stand up for someone else in that position, what I meant was its hard for someone who's never been put in that situation to imagine what it's actually like therefore they would be less likely to actually do something. What got me through it was thinking ,they don't realize it, but all they're doing is making me stronger. I just hate when people say they would when they know they wouldn't.
I know people say they would have stopped it but I actually have. These kids in the year above me had circled someone and were throwing things at him and screaming. He was crying so hard and begging them to stop but no one would. It took all my courage to stand up to them.
All of you say "if I had been there I would've stopped it!", you probably wouldn't have. Very few people would actually stand up for someone else in that position. We all say "I would've done this." , "I would've don't that." But we never know what we would truly do until put in a position to choose.
@chaelovesjesus I have done it multiple times, I was tormented in early school like from 1st to 9th grade, but I never let anyone else that I knew, or some of my relatives that went to the same school, get bullied. I've always had thick skin, so whatever was said about me, didn't hurt cause I was 10x smarter than my tormentors. I don't like seeing other people hurt though, so I always have this instinct to protect the people I care about no matter what.
@calie135 What state do you live in? I live in Maryland and I'm homeschooled and done with high school but I can't legally graduate until I'm 16. I'm allowed to take college classes through a dual enrollment program though , maybe laws vary by state. And, I say this with absolutely no malice, next time you might want to run through spell check before you post, there were a lot of misspelled words and grammatical errors.
This is a great episode but also a painful one to watch. I have Asperger Syndrome and had experiences similar to Owen's in school. I could never prove how smart I was in an academic setting and was bullied by both teachers and peers. One time a teacher screamed "are you retarted?!" at me in front of a class of 60 kids because I misunderstood a direction. Teachers and parents need to be less ignorant and more educated about learning issues. If Owen had been helped this may have been preventable.
Reid I know exsacly what you go threw even if you are a show character but I am only 12 and I am graduating this year and I am first in my class I am graduating high school at a young age and I am really useless to all the people in my school at least I think so I can read 125 words per minute and yeah maybe I. Am a genius but can anyone tell me is it ok for me to be afraid of my own mind? And no I am not copying Reid's storie I am telling the truth that is why I love this show and dr. Spencer
@calie135 You don't have to lie about who you are, even if you aren't genius, you should never be afraid of your own mind. I honestly have no idea what you mean by that, I graduated last year, I was 3 years younger than everyone else, but none of them bullied me. They all called me "babygirl" and treated me like a little sister. There were a few jealous girls, but I didn't pay any attention them. Of course, I pulled some evil genius pranks on them!!
Maybe I'm just being overly-sentimental, but I really appreciate these kind of episodes... things are not black and white, no matter how much we want them to be. The fact that my favorite character (Reid) is the one that connects with Owen just made it that more special. Thank you, MrSupremeGenius, for allowing me to re-watch my favorite CM episode-- it made my day. :)
I love this episode-- I can relate to it on so many levels, not the least because I was bullied a lot. CM covers such an array of different social issues, and I think that it brings up things that people don't want to talk about, whether that be religious cults, bullying, human trafficking, child predators, etc. It's important to expose people to these kind of things, and art such as film is a great way to do it with such a large, intrigued audience who is actually interested in listening.
@claire9256 is it the one where a girl is kidnapped and the kidnapper is killed in front of reid by the girl's dad? because if it is it's 3x12 i'll send you a link if you need a youtube vid of the entire episode.
Poor Reid, poor Owen. I feel for the millions of others who suffer the same fate, whether they retaliate like this or not, they are all innocent to begin with. There's no such thing as a born killer; it's enforced.
When you listen to Reid tell his bullying story, you have to realize that in-universe, that makes him 9-12 years old. Those football players and Alexa Lisbon are disgusting.
Oh Spencer, you break my heart :'( Why does it have to be so so bad for him?
