  • Well done! Do you think that type of locker would hold up to drag racing? Liked the comment about "punching a baby"!

  • did you break the axle yet?

  • @androsborsato Axle is still going strong!

  • that music made me want to punch a baby.

  • How hard do you think this is? Could a average person with some mechanic experience do it?

  • Is that pig mat you're using? Do you like it?

  • smoke a few cones, great music!

  • u dont need to remove the hub from the axel unless u r replacing the hub just 1 step u can take out to make it faster

and i never have to hammer my rotors off

i would suggest sprayin everything with a penatrating oil a few days befor the 3 12point bolts r a bitch when rusty

    but good video man!

oh u should allways make sure all bolts and couplers and bearing caps go back on in the same place left to left and right to right

  • Take this fuckin vid off with this shitty ass music ya fuck stick

  • Heh, you forgot to mention at 3:10 the beer one will need thinking "Geez this stuff is stuck in there better than i thought..."

  • gotta be one of the worst songs i've ever heard.

  • THATS THE WORST FUCKING MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD. What are u cunts on?

  • 1:45, ouch.... ruined the rotors? Lead hammer would have worked just as well and not dented them to hell. Hope you got them turned after that.

  • @TheAmericanUhate

who the heck turns rotors these days. replacing ftw.

  • @tariq00692 not everyone wants to spend $200 to $300 or more on rotors everytime they need turned (about once a year).... but those needed to be replaced after he mangled them like that lol

  • how does this locker do on the road? is the handling the same as stock?

  • Yup, mute button for a reason

  • You have a great video , but if you would change the music more people could watch it all the way through. Keep up the great video work. Thanks .

  • No backlash adjustments????

  • great vid but why did you take the ring gear off i though you could do it without?

  • after installation do you have to bring it somewhere to get the carrier balanced(or do it your self) or do you just put the carrier back in?

  • love the BuD at 3:09

  • I couldnt finish watching the video because the music was horrible.

  • Thank God for the MUTE button

  • The music made me want to pull my hair out..........

  • how can anyone pay attention to this video with this music playing!!!

  • why didnt you set the diff backlash settings?

  • @wassupgeo

If you use the same shims (which he did) you don't have to. Replacing the carrier guts do not affect backlash.

  • You should probably use a rubber mallet to take off the rotors instead of a sledge hammer... That way they won't get all banged up.

  • @Dustmuffins No way those would have come off with a rubber mallet. It was a bitch getting them off with the hammer we used. Rusted on. BFH baby, to hell with rubber mallets...

  • @poisonthewizzle you should try a copper faced mallet or even a piece of scrap wood in between the rotor and the hammer. and a spray with wd40 the day before will help too

  • I like that front axle remove trick. Pretty sweet way to do that!

  • Cool vid, so the YJ brake lines are longer, do you know by how much?

  • @ScoutD300 Been a while since I did this, so I dont remember exactly, I'm going to say roughly 2.5-3 inches.

  • in some axles like c clip axles you dont have to remove the carrier but in this axle you do

  • Ok I get your point though I kinda knew you would say that. I was teasing thats all.

  • I didnt know the Swedish made music. I know that sounds stupid but in America I cant say I ever heard anything from a Swedish band before.

  • @Thelongmanable Uh yea, lots. I am from the States just in case you thought I was swedish. you ever heard of Opeth ABBA Ace of Base The Hives Peter Bjorn and John Millencolin The Knife the guitarist of Placebo The Tallest Man on Earth Yngwei Malmsteen The Refused International Noise Conspiracy... All Swedish, just to name a few
  • @Thelongmanable the only thing i can say for u is that sweden is one of the countrys that produces most music in the world but not many ppl dont know that.

  • @LittleSweed With this recording that's no wonder. The video is pretty good though.

  • What language is that music.

  • @Thelongmanable Swedish, the band is called Dungen.

  • Nice video! and I saw a Bud in one of the pics :P

  • ok for one thing, you do not have to take the carrier out of the axle to put this locker in..........if you dont get it perfectly aligned it is going to whine, then you will have to take it to a shop and pay money for them to adjust it to specs. No need to take the carrier out. The aussie will fit right in there.

  • @metalic53 Actually yes, you do in fact have to take the carrier out, you need to take the cross shaft out in order to take the spider gears out, and the cross shaft is held in place by a roll pin that must be punched out, and this is only possible with the carrier removed. Thanks for watching.

  • damn annoying music

  • I don't know about using the hammer to get the rotors off. You can see the divots you put in them by doing so. Obviously you were replacing yours but for someone else who doesn't need new rotors, use a puller to take them off.

I've been tempted to put a locker on mine but have never removed the axle shafts before so I'm a little hesitant. Seeing the video gives me confidence though. Thanks!

  • Great video, well done and very helpful. But, the music? Dude!!! Thanks for the video.

  • worst fucking song ive ever heard/will ever hear in my life

  • im just geting into this stuff is the only way you can have lockers on pavement is air locks so u can turn them off when u dont need them cause i want to get lockers for my cherokee but i still be able to drive it on the road do they make lockers that disengage on pavement or when turning???

  • First of all, air lockers are not the only way you can drive on pavement with lockers. Mine is not an air locker, and it is my daily driver. This specific locker disengages when not under "load", meaning, when the Jeep is in 2 wheel drive, the locker is not locked. It is a different story if you were to put this locker in the rear rather than the front, but the rear wheels are not as affected by the lack of differential as the front.

  • @wifebeater756 best locker you can get for a jeep is a OX locker. It is a cable engaged locker..no air, or electricity. they are pretty much the most reliable lockers..ARB air lockers are good too but i am a fan of the OX...and you can drive on the road with just about any lockers these days with the ox it engages almost like your 4X4 you just pull a handle.

  • great vid, but what the hell is with the music?

  • Would that locker disengage on pavement when turning if id put in in my rear diff...dana 35 ?

  • No, when there is a load on the locker it remains engaged. Additionally, I personally would not lock a D35, it is a rather weak axle, especially if you were to lock it. I would recommend upgrading axles.

  • At 2:22, that showed the inadequate axle seals that Dana is known for. Get REAL axle seals, preferably the type where one can fill them with a grease gun. I use an Aussie Locker and did this: No regrets!

What's the point of installing an Aussie Locker only to have it slowly destroyed by water intrusion from inferior seals at the outer axle tubes?

Hope this advice helps and GOOD LUCK ALL!

  • @slant6guy thats not even technically an axle seal that is shown there, the seals are farther inward. and if you change your diff fluid regularly you dont have to worry about it. fuck those over priced aftermarket shit seals with grease fittings. spend your money elsewhere. thanks for watching.

  • @poisonthewizzle

They're more like stone guards rather than seals. That I 4got to put. I like the peace of mind the aftermarket seals and they're easy to install and relatively inexpensive for what they buy: peace of mind.

I LIKED YOUR VIDEO and agree: The Aussie Locker is THE best investment any Jeep owner can get. Nothing like 100% axle locking action when things start going bad/when traction is needed. It's like night & day difference from the open diff it had when I bought the Jeep new!

  • @slant6guy good point, if I could find some cheap it would be an easy install, I'll keep an eye out.

  • Thats how i love spending my fridya nights, a beer, working an my truck and getting shit done!

  • Break, sorry.

  • 100 thumbs up on sucky music comments and YOU wouldn't want someone with crappy taste in music watching our vid?

god damn my ears are bleeding! No linking your vid for factual shit for me!

  • @F0ckUtoob well i wouldnt want you to repeatidly subject yourself to good music, so its probably good youre not linking. :)

  • you would be better locking a buzz gun on and letting us listen to that

  • noone in that video checked and clearences from what ive seen...

  • what are you the locker install police? yes clearances were checked, due to consolidation issues and time restraints that was left out. This is a supplemental video, not a step by step manufacturers instruction.

  • @poisonthewizzle no, just stating that clearance are something that should be checked

  • @Breaker588 agreed, could cause some major problems, and void the warranty if not documented.

  • Excellent video, thanks!

I've been reading up on offroad modifications, I plan to start modding a jeep I picked up when the snow clears. Basically I'm a newbie. So now that I know how to install Aussie Lockers, what are they??

  • A locking differential, it makes both wheels turn the same speed.

  • I´m a newbie too. But i have a question. If you drive the car turning some closed turns... could you brake an axle? Answer please :)

  • The locker in mine is in the front, it is only engaged when the jeep is in 4wd. I only use 4wd in deep mud, snow, sand, or on some rocks. I would not advise using it on dry pavement. It will bounce and jerk. It locks the wheels together, eleminating the differential, (both wheels turn at the same speed) if you were to drive on pavement in 4wd and turn it would be noisy, although youd only break something turning fast and sharp.

  • @poisonthewizzle so wait.....

with this installed in the front you feel no effects of it even being there until you click it into 4x4?

I want a front aussie as well, I know it would suck in winter 4X4 but i was also worried if it would bother my summer driving on the road..

I may get a new winter beater. lol and make the XJ full time off road/ dry road. lol

  • thats not music, thats noise

  • that song is horrible wtf

  • the music ruined your video, i watched 10 seconds and that was way 2 long

  • im glad you bailed at 10 seconds, I wouldn't want someone with poor music taste watching my video anyway. your loss.

  • Damn music shit

  • at 1:45 take a close look at the rotors and where he hammered the shit out of them getting them off. they are toast with that kind of damage....they will cause the brake pads to wear abnormally and eventually cause rotor runout.

  • hence the reason we replaced them

  • good video but the music was super homo

  • Music ruins this video...horrible.

  • not sure about your computer, but mine came with a volume control.

  • Nice. What is this car??

  • This is a 2001 Jeep Cherokee

  • Nice video but the music sucks.

  • I stopped the video because of the horrible sound. Thats not music, it sounded like shit.

  • One thing poisonthewizzle failed to mention was, if you remove your front or rear carrier replace your axle seals and inspect your bearings. The front axle seals can be seen at 4:43 and the rear axle seals are at the brake backing plate.

  • This is a very good point, we actually did this, but the time constraint of youtube forced me to do some editing, and that whole procedure was excluded.

  • Worst Fucking music ever, seriously i turned my sound off,You have fucking horrible taste in music and you should never be allowed to add sound to any videos ever again in your life (FAIL)!!!!!!! dude, nice install thou

  • MUSIC SO BAD!

  • poison the well owns. i am from miami and got to see them grow and become who they are now. don't listen to the mindless herd individuals on the web who know nothing about good music or respect for others personal preference. im a wheeler too man just got a '90 bronco a week ago and im lovin that thing. take care

  • Thats cool, glad to hear it man, happy wheeling!

  • Super GAY music!!!

  • How is music homosexual, unless it is indeed lyrically discussing such topics?

  • Just teasing now, dont get mad gislemarks

  • A+++ one of the best instructional videos on youtube.

  • Thanks for the comment, glad to see its helping others out.

  • great vid i actually just used it to install my aussie...

what is the name of second song? its really catchy and i like it

  • Thank you, the second song is by a swedish band called dungen, the song and album are titled stadsvandringar.

  • Nice guide, but what about the shimsing? Seems like you guys didn't measure and adjust the distance between the pinjong and the crownwheel, which makes you guys lucky if the gears lasted long.

Oh, and the music is the most horrible I've ever heard, please don't have that kind of music in future videos. Otherwize a nice guide.

  • There are no need for shims, the pinion didnt come out, and the carrier goes back in with the ring gear back in the same place, the only change is the spiders inside.

  • for your best guess, about how long was this process of installing the locker, w/out considering the brake upgrade?

    thanks,

  • I would say without the brakes and u joints, the locker specifically took about an hour to two hours. we werent rushing anything, and the carrier was a PITA coming out. good luck!

  • awesome supplemental vid!!! I will do similar upgrade to my jeep in few weeks. thanks a bunch

  • Good guide to getting the carrier out. But you for got something. HOW THE LOCKER GOES TOGETHER!!! And the music was horrible. Overall 4/5. Good Job!!

  • well thank you, i didnt go into much about how the locker goes together since it comes with instructions, and is very simple, the video is just supplemental info really.

  • Why removing the crown gear?

  • I want to punch this music in the face.

  • yeah... you DEFINATELY dont have to remove the axle shaft washer, nut and cotter pin AT ALL. it will all just slide out with the unit bearing...

  • bit deceptive name really, the diffs are not made in Australia, not designed in australia, and not for sale in Australia.

  • Good video. The music is painful to listen to though!

  • The name of that first song is peacebone by animal collective, and the bolts are not reverse threaded. I have heard of that before, but these were not.

  • Nice video you have there. Also whats the name of that first song

  • YOu forgot to mention that the bolts for the ring gear are reverse threaded and have to be rotated clockwise to loosen them.

but good instructional vid noe the less
