Please help I'm very good at playing flute, I need help playing piccolo!! I can get notes out and it sounds fine I don't know some lower notes i cn't get out sometomes I just need help over all with learning to play it..
Hey! AMAZING picc. playing! :) I am supposed to be playing piccolo next year for marching band but don't know which would be the best. I am trying to find one with the composite body because the fingers are a little bit more spread apart.
I'm trying to learn how to play the piccolo. I can play the flute fairly well, but I really can't get much sound out of the piccolo I have. It's a Bundy if that helps.
is this the piccolo on your ebay that you fixed and repaded, of the fixing service you have ? [: im thinking of sending my gemeinhardt 4P to you (: i did my research .
Wooden piccolos generally sound smoother than metal piccolo. Depending on the manufacturer of the piccolo(s) and cut of the embouchure hole will determine the ease of playability.
Lovely. I play flute on my 3rd year. im going to also play piccolo next year cause we can play both. Im in 7th grade band 8th soon. I also play piano and the notes are the same so it wount be as diifficalt.
Do you have to be a flute player to transfer into playing the piccolo? Because i play the clarinet and next year im either going to play the piccolo or saxaphone
The thing about playing flute to piccolo is the you know the fingerings.I play piccolo yet not flute.I have difficulty getting a sound out of a flute, not that I couldn't play it.The chromatic scale in first octive on the flute is at a "C" . The piccolo is at a "D" do to the fact that the piccolo hasn't any footjoint therefore doesn't have the fingerings to make the note as the flute does. The "Emerson or Geimeinhardt" composite piccolo(s) are the best for starting.Metallic headjoints are o.k.
thank you for the info! i wanted to play the piccolo but now im not. i play clarinet and therefore im not aloud to switch to piccolo. i am going to play the saxaphone instead.
by the way is piccolo hard? becuase i might start playing as i need an instrument to play for my GCSE music course and i thought that the piccolo was different to all the others!
Well the" if you can play flute you can play piccolo" theory isn't always true. The embourchore in the headjoint for one.I play "piccolo" not flute yet one things for sure blowing into a flute would be like blowing into a sipping straw. Now with the piccolo it's alot like blowing into a mini coffee stir straw. The pout of the lips even becomes smaller when you hit above "G"in second octive.Good piccolo one that I really like is the Emerson plastic composite body/head conical bore.
nice!! i also play the piccolo! u have a wooden one wich is better! can tell me the name of the songs and the composers? can u play E in the 3er OCTAVE? i only reach to C7! i'm not sure if a piccolo can play that note!
Wow, fast response! Thanks! I placed a bid on a Yamaha piccolo (it started at .98!; the bid hasn't gone any higher yet!). I can't wait to get my Gemeinhardt! I'll probably post a video on here once I get good enough. Thanks again for your reply!
It's funny. When you get down to the low notes, it sounds exactly like a regular flute. But when you get to the high notes, it sounds like a singing bird. How long does it take to learn? Is it that much different than a flute? I play flute, and I just bought a Gemeinhardt 2sp (I'm halfway between a beginner and an intermediate), and was wondering if the fingerings are any different?
Hi and thanks for the comment! The fingerings are the same however keep in mind that the piccolo is an octave higher than the flute. Piccolo doesn't take long to learn if you already play the flute but it takes a little while to get used to the embouchure differences between flute + piccolo. Good luck!
UR AMAZING! i love the piccolo i actually will be playing it in my high school band i hope i become as good as u how long did it take to do it?! like learn it .. i can play flute so it might not take me as long
Man I'd do anything for a Wooden picc...I play a solid silver one and I hate it...Inside it's very hard to control...I would never buy another one with a silver head...I'd only do wood... If anyone knows where I could get a granadilla one under 1000 with no cracks or problems let me know.
Thanks for the input. As of the improvisation area, I HIGHLY dislike improv. and always have. I was in jazz band in 2002-2003 on alto sax. and refused to do any improvisation then and my opinion has not changed since then on the whole idea.
Why would you copy other music? I don't get that, you should be imaginative when playing music and improvise. :P
I guess not every one thinks the same (not guess, but know; its a common fact). Although, music is more attractive like that. I assume its a big reason behind the many intellectual Jazz enthusiasts.
Brava, Suzie! I enjoyed the Fire Dance, Carmen, and Amazing Grace. But I have a request. Can you do some of the leit Motifs from Wagner? "Stimme des Waldvogels" ("The Voice of the Forest Bird") and the Siegfried "hunting horn" motif would be wonderful on your wind instruments.
Please note that this is from April lol and thanks. I don't play flute hardly at all anymore and most of my videos are from a few months back when I was playing more. More videos will come soon though!
Thanks, Dennis! *sigh* I agree with you though. Will try and keep them coming but got rid of my expensive digital cameras so will have to put sound clips with photograph slideshows until I upgrade my camera again. Until then, I'll be lurking! -Suzie
I sold it to a guy in Taiwan in April (after I repadded/overhauled it) to put a deposit on my Pearl Dolce Coda lol. Still I wait... Grr! Thanks for the comment! =)
hi, I was thinking of purchasing a piccolo. are there different levels (beginning, step-up, advanced) like there are flutes?

Cool playing, and be sure to check Yossi Hamami concerto for piccolo "freakollo". I finally got it in piano reduction and it's the best thing ever.

Perhaps that's part of the problem! Has your piccolo been tuned up recently? May be out of adjustment as well and/or needing new pads! Good luck!

the general conception is if you can play flute you can play piccolo.
If you've never tried either, hit up a local music store and ask them if you can try to play the picc. If you can get a sound, go for it.

very talented... i play the flute but i have always wanted to play the piccolo.... how hard is it?
LJSJSK 3 years ago
I think it depends on your ability to play the flute and how long you'd be devoted to practicing the piccolo. Practice makes perfect! =)
foreverwoodwinds 3 years ago
Like she said..
Its harder to get the lower nots on the picc. than it was/would be to get a low C or low B on the flute, so that takes practice.
Rodier1128 3 years ago
The piccolo came to me the first day I tried it. Still, I can't get higher than an 8va Bb.
DKongfreak 3 years ago
Are you referring to the Bb above the staff or the Bb above the Bb above the staff? Is it possible that the piccolo is leaking?
foreverwoodwinds 3 years ago
Yes, the really high Bb. I have a Yamaha YPC 32, and I've only been playing for a semester. I'm currently in the 8th grade.
