I would say that yes, approaching the mideast from a friendly, fresh, respectful stance is an excellent idea - my only concern is if he will also be willing to draw a line in the sand and state clearly, only so much will be tolerated. I am personally not convinced that all, or most, of the leaders in that region will be willing to talk peace - ten thousand years of bloodshed indicates otherwise.

Time will tell, however.
