In Brazil you can make this too. We call this "apresentação livre" means "free presentation", since your clothes are good and the people like your presentation you don't need to be ecxactly as you character. The most important is: people remember you, even by humor.
Somehow, tho' they were being kinda out of characters, still it's one of the 3 presentations that got me laughing and/or interested. Others kinda a yawn sadly tho' their costumes and props were good. =_=
Pero es un performance. Puede tratarse de lo que sea...aunque una de las reglas era fidelidad al personaje que cosplayeaban, se refería al parecido y vestimenta, i dunno...
(part 2) Tsugiri defeats Myoubi using Hadou-ken (Street Fighter) and an Otaku Note (Death Note), and says, "You are already an otaku!" (Fist of the North Star's famous phrase "You are already dead!"). Becoming an otaku means dancing Haruhi Dance (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). I didn't get the reference source of the transformation scene. And the two of them were surrounded by cosplay costumes, and lived happily ever after. Fusion pose (Dragon Ball). Wow!
(part 1) Their skit is full of parodies! I'll try to explain as much as possible. Their cosplay is from Myoubi and Tsugiri (from Alichino). Myoubi looks for seven butterflies to make her wish come true (Dragon Ball). The butterfly keeper is living in a cave playing Final Fantasy, making Gundam figures, and doing cosplay. (continue to part 2)

I think Japan is like this too.

Sorry. She's looking for seven butterflies not to make her wish come true, but to change the world. My bad.
