well its safe to assume that not everything can be made into a play also would help to know what they are saying since i dont remember seeing most of the things that happened here in dubbed version

its a shame that they don't make a remake,they probably will after they make realized that it was a very,very,very good animé comedy show(personally the best romantic comedy in the world),

and for the ones who do not understand much Japanese,this is like a resume of the first episodes,same dialogues except for the appearance of the white coat guys.

While not very common, there have been a few other animes to get stage productions. Some are more a mix of concert with brief skits in between, others are more like this one.

I know there have been Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Haruhi Suzumiya, and I believe Minami-ke theater shows.
