what a tragic life. i really felt bad for her. i know her mostly from her breakthrough role in the ghost movie "the uninvited", which has become one of our favorite scary halloween movies. but she was also very lovely in angel and the badman with john wayne. she was so adorable, so innocent like. she was taken away WAY too soon.
Here is a question, do you think if she had more confidence in herself, she could have been one of Hollywood's glamourous stars along with Rita Hayworth (one of my faves), Lana Turner, Hedy Lamarr or various others? With her innoncene and fragile beauty, imo, she could have been the 40's version of Audrey Hepburn.
she had no confidence in herself yet.....THE UNINVITED showd how she was becoming a real great actrice. i wish i had been around her to boost her up and stop her from drinking. so sad....what a preety face
Love tribute ... and @BannerBombers I just think she didn't know how to get out of acting. It sucked her in. I'm sure when people are constantly telling you 'you are beautiful, you should act' you begin to think maybe that's all I can do. I wish she would have gotten out of acting. At least in my opinion...
She was so beautiful and had those haunting eyes. All the photos are great (and I have copes of a few of them myself) but the one at 4:24 is simply incredible. Thank you for posting.
I have seen The Uninvited so many times, I saw it again last night at midnight! & I can't tell you how haunting her eyes, are every time I see that film! It's so very sad how she died, they don't have anymore like her in film today!

Was there ever anyone in Hollywood with more natural beauty . . or more tragic. You cannot look at Gail Russell and not see tragedy.
She had a waiflike beauty in her and destroyed herself. You want to cry thinking of the waste.

Best known film was actually "The Uninvited". Unlike "Angel and the Badman" it's a great movie.

Gail Russell was one of the most beautiful women to grace the Silver Screen. My favorite growing up.

I have only seen her in "Wake of the Red Witch" w/ John Wayne and she was good in that. Beautiful images esp the color ones.
