  • nice clip

  • awesome sight and sound

  • can anyone do these peircing things or be tranced?

  • That I am not sure about. it is a pretty big deal and ritual. It is a spiritual journey, so I don't think that just anyone can do it. But I may be wrong.

  • Are these dudes hindu or are they some other religion? Where are they in the world aswell?

  • They are Hindu. Thaipusam is a large Hindu Festival that happens in Kuala Lumpur and Penang Malaysia. It is an amazing and spiritual event that I highly recommend seeing.Watching them have spikes and hooks inserted into their skin, made me a believer in their faith.

  • it also happens in india and sri lanka and other countries with sizable tamil communities

  • im a fellow malaysian. altho im not celebrating this kind of festival but as a malaysian im proud living in this country with cultural diversity. :)

  • Fascinating.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Give these guys a break! As foreigners they respect our culture and uploaded the video for others to view<--- I don't think any other Tamil or Indian will take the hassle to record the video and put it online (ask urself). Ok the bhangra song was a mistake... they aren't aware of the Tamil culture as a whole. So, you appreciate them for trying to understand; as I think they have now. Good job wegobyebye.

  • Thanks kokkamakke. I would definitely change the music if I could, but now I can't because it is already edited and uploaded. At least people are discussing and talking about our video and Thaipusam:) Sorry for the mistake.

  • (+ same comment as smodas. It is all music you found for this video? Above all, it is not a religious music!!)

  • Pff!! those who don't know the taml culture, and the hindu religion should not say such silly things!!

they aren't suffering, they're doing a devotion for God, to tell Him thanks, to ask Him something...

    Faith, that's all.

  • shit!! its fuckin wrong to pierce themselves like that! they suffer for no fuckin reason!

  • That is because they are in a trance, they don't feel anything.

  • Superbb mikee,,, Good job nice video,, Happy THAIPUSAM all... Cool

  • Wow!!! awesome..the first time ive seen Thaipusam

  • Why you playing Bhangra for Thaipusam, which is a Tamil festival ? Bhangra is Punjabi. You just screwed up this video.

  • Roxy... It is being in trance of ur fav god... U won't feel a think wen do they peircing... Btw tdy is thaipusam in singapore... So wegobyebye... Do drop by... & Beautiful video...

  • Wow, I wish we were there!

  • My mom says when they are piercing thier bodies, they have been possesed. Is it true??

  • Yes, this style of worship is called "bhakti" worship, and usually is referred to as "veriyattu".

In Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, this is what goes on in thaipusam and amman festivals.

  • in sri lanka, i seen some tamil hindu priest praying with mask over their face

kinda like what the people are tieing over at the end of the video during the unpierciing part of the ceremony

in sri lanka, some of the priest tie silk scarfs over their face before they pray

they weren't refered to as Iyeri priest like the others, and some of them had ash all over their skin

what is the meaning of the mask over their face

  • The mask priests are not brahmin as in they are from a group of people who like eat fish and all with all respects. Real priests are vegetarian but now i think even the priests who cover their faces are vegetarian it has just become tradition. Btw I have been to those temples in Tamil Eelam.
