  • Whoah sounded epic

  • NZmusic is going to be big in Austria :D

  • maybe if you raise it an octive

  • YOUR MUSIC SO GOOD!

  • great tutorial man thanks a lot

  • YOU FORGOT STUFF!!

OSC1 IS ON F2 ALL THE WAY DOWN AND OSC2 IS F1 ALL THE WAY UP!

  • @fredrick01 how? its bad in the video? Im playing with it.

  • @fredrick01 that is on purpose man there are two filters lol

  • @fmttutorials he forgot to mention that he did -_-

  • @fredrick01 its at 1:55 maybe u missed it? i do that all the time

  • @fmttutorials *facehoof* I fail.

  • @fredrick01 dude nooo its an automatic win because you are on Ryan's page =p haha

  • @fmttutorials what?

  • Daft Punk used the Korg MS-20 for the lead Sound of Da Funk (The realy overuse the MS-20 even in Tron). What makes the MS-20 Special is a Highpassfilter with a Resonance. So to get the lead Sound asign a Highpassfilter to some Saws/Squares and then Push the Resoance realy strong. Modualte the Highpasscutoff with an Envelope and let it open during the Note. The Resonating frequencys pitchshift downwards this way to give it that vowelly sound. PLUR MrToBe

  • Thanks for the tutorial. You are a good teacher in that you don't skim over details, but take the viewer step-by-step through each element of the process. I like how the video zooms in on the mouse cursor as you move to different parts of the Massive program to make it easier to see the individual parts of the sound design.

What is the name of the software program you use to create your video so that you can zoom in on the mouse cursor as you made your tutorial?

  • the synth is infamous!?!?!? i thought it was famous :O

  • i think i may know how they made the sound in 1997, you guys can stop telling me now pl0x

  • almost forgot, dono any other musician o how it is how you spell it... that teach is tricks, thanks i have use a few of your ticks, but i think the best is just move everything till u find something... ha

  • do you know how can i improve my sound, but on fl studio?????

  • For @nzmusic101 and anyone else that is curious.

They either used tb-303 or a sh-101 for the first synth in the song. The second synth that comes in about halfway through is without a doubt produced by a 303. To top off the sound they most likely used a distortion pedal, but it could have also been a some other distortion unit.

  • @SPIDERMANBATPIG

The classic "squelchy" sound that you are talking about is created from a lot of distortion, glide, and resonance.

How do I know this? Well it's because I know my way around the 303 and 101, plus I listen to a lot of acid house.

    BTW great video Ryan.

  • Is there any preset you can download? I also don't get it working like you

  • great!

  • i love daft punk! my favourite band!

Dude, can you make tutorials on lead synths? like those phased leads used in french house by artists like madeon, sebastian...

and yes, i'm subbed to you since "day 1" too :D

  • Do you ever put a preset download link?

  • @DjRefunction He doesn't tend to, prefers to encourage others to make it themselves. Not sure, but think copyright gets iffy if you supply others presets

  • @DEVILCHiLDere We'll i just prefer to get the preset and just edit it with a bunch more programs and in massive itself. Saves alot more time :P

  • It's the edp wasp that makes the synth lead i think there's a softsynth version.

  • Wow it sounds amazing but more like the lead in 'Illmerica' by Wolfgang. Thanks very much for this tutorial :D

  • I get the idea of teaching people how to do it, but couldn't you save the patch and upload it?

  • please post this as a loop in a different vid, but extended. this is a great remake ;)

  • @gridhacker fuck you must be lazy

  • @bo0mk1d what?! first i'm busy, second i don't have a youtube download program because of hardware issues with my computer, so dont judge others. never.

  • @gridhacker im saying make the damn thing! geez

  • @bo0mk1d and having the program? right.

  • @bo0mk1d sorry about that, i was kinda angry that time around :/

  • now the question is, how the hell did Daft Punk do this in 1997?

  • @infinitysquaredmusic A "sample"(looped on vynil)+ Guitar Pedal Effects....

  • @infinitysquaredmusic propably with an arsenal of analog synths, combining various filters. Im guessing its all physicals synth. Playing around with arturia's moog modular you can have a sense of what those beasts were capable of. provided you've got the money to pay for them of cource.

  • @infinitysquaredmusic with a roland 303

  • @infinitysquaredmusic It was actually a guitar riff done with a Fender Stratocaster (i think thats the guitar they used) but its cool how it can be recreated with Massive

  • @infinitysquaredmusic with better hardware than DAW's DUH original synths. are far superior thna today's computer programs all it did was get rid of the cables and tone in the process

  • @infinitysquaredmusic It's not in 1997, Da Funk was made in 1995 ;) !

  • @infinitysquaredmusic Because Daft Punk, is Daft Punk :)

  • Comment removed

  • @infinitysquaredmusic with the tr 303 it is very simple to make youd be surprise. like so everyone can know.

  • @infinitysquaredmusic hardware synths from 1979 sound better than massive. They just cost 1000s.

  • Comment removed

  • @infinitysquaredmusic by being daft punk

  • @infinitysquaredmusic some guy named @officialnyquist just gave you the historical answer :/

  • @infinitysquaredmusic mikro korg

  • @infinitysquaredmusic Prob did it on analog equipment, idk what though? lol

  • What sample pack are you using?

  • @mrsimomoks my own - 1 is already for sale on supplemental sounds dot com and i have a new massive and sylenth pack coming out very soon :-)

  • Do you have a complete album or demo out?

  • O.O ..... Its WAAAAAYY harder, and BETTER!

  • do u not think theres an osc at +7st in there too?

  • sounds more like wolfgang gartner. makes more tuts on sounds like these! love those resonant vowel stabs man this sound is cool

  • @KungPowCheekin resonated*

  • when you played that synth, i gained 6 testes.

  • maybe just some tutorials on how it generally works? like how you go about making a sound you hear? cause sure i can copy you and tweak it but i can never get the sounds im imagining :\

  • When I heard the skype online sound, I thought it was me even though I didn't have skype open -.-

  • Sounds like illmerica

  • Da Funk? INFAMOUS!?

  • sounds skrillexy! awesome!

  • So that's how it's done ;-p

  • sounds great, more like a remix though. would love to here u do one in full of daft punk or mau5.

  • do you reckon you can get into trouble for selling songs with cracked versions of plugins like massive? Im scared to use my cracked version, but it has awesome sounds... lol

  • @therobba nah man you can't get in trouble for that, how would they know?

P.S, I'd probably take that comment down, now people'd know it's illegal ;)

  • Dude, i heard YOUR remix playing in Hamburg...your style of music is kinda big over here ;)

  • @Avayl sick! which remix?

  • @nzmusic101 the Vile Prankster remix, i never heard one of you songs but when i listend to your remix i recognized the song.

Search for Dirty Disco Youth (Dim Mak, omgitm), i think he played it :).

  • Try and make Knife Party's bass from Unison remix!!! or the high pitch bitch (didn't know what to call it... :D) it plays after the main bass... you'll know the one when you hear it.

  • @Electronicchocolate no other processing...this is straight out of massive :-)

  • How can I get massive free?

  • @DJJayV33 pirate it and that's about it

  • Stop asking for the simplest tutorials

  • @OBaboli agreed, stop asking "how do i sound like _____", thats not how you learn stuff..

  • Show us how to make Knife Party's pluck-ish sound.

  • Um. i think Dubstep & Complextro might be because of you. lol. Thank you for your contribution mate. ;) excellent vids.

  • can u try pance party "i do" dirty bassline?! pweees!!? btw, you are AWESOME

  • Nice tutorial :)

Is it only me, or is YouTube becoming a facebook wannabe? :P

  • blease show how to make the stabs in david guetta ft. ushers "without you"

  • @darrylmathew576 get 2 saw waves (try them both at some octave or 1 apart), then try some slight detuning, then send an envelope to the lowpass filter...all done :-) check out my 'deadmau5 tutorial in massive' and you will see what i am talking about with this technique ;-)

  • @nzmusic101 thanks bro. your video's have really helped me to step my game up.

  • @nzmusic101 Like a boss !

  • Hey Nzmusic, can u teach me how to do David Guetta's Gettin' over you chorus beat?

  • this might be a stupid question NZ but how do i update massive?

  • can you make a tutorial how to make justice bass please??? :D

  • Comment removed

  • DOPE

  • wow sounds better than daft punk's!

  • 2000 views in 2 days, crazy! :)

  • @DjBatawi lovely subscribers i guess?? :-)

  • <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <

  • Not bad! Close! Needs a bit more squelch, like higher end distortion, but that's just small tweaks to what you already have :)

  • Best tutorials on youtube!<3

  • Your stuff is so good, but the only way I can get it is off itunes.... D:

  • Brilliant stuff man as usual, you got any releases coming up? I assume skyscraper will be soon :)

  • thank you :)

  • Great idea to do some daft punk stuff. The gods of electronic music!

  • possibly one of your best tutorials :D i was blown away at how close you got. loving the forum btw ;)

  • dude this sound is so fucking gnar gnar

  • Not only did you just teach us how to make DP's "da funk". I think you also taught us how to make Wolfgang Gartner's Illmerica synth! lol 2 tuts in one vid. thanks ryan! :D

  • sexy

    cheers for tut

  • Very good stuff man, the synth needs to be more focused on highs though.

  • Pretty damn close man ;) Keep it up.

  • wow.your good.i bought ur patches and track.couldnt continue watchin your vids unless i bought some of your shit.even though im broke as hell.lol

  • @Jazztenor20 thanks a lot my man! really appreciate that!

  • wow, you fucking nailed it

  • @tylerblue1984 thanks bro!

  • how long have you been making music, im at almost 5 months and i havent made anything too good

  • @hitthedeckstudios 2 years :-)

  • @nzmusic101 well you are very talented!!! i heard skrillex and the biggest names in electro have like 10 years experience! im only 13 and have like 4-5 months. i think its good that im starting early, ill have alot of experience by the time in skrillex's age, and the technology keeps getting better and easier to make music, im planning on expanding and buying a nice midi keyboard!

i hope you have a successful musical career, and become the next best electronic artist!!!

  • Drop that an octave, add a bit of drive, and a(nother?) lfo, and that's some dubstep gold.

  • @SSaBMusic exactly! this would make some sick wobbles!

  • you are a god

  • @Matt3II thankyou sir!

  • Legendddd

  • Love your tutorials man!

  • @1Emado thanks dude

  • You should put 'In Massive' in the title.

  • @TechnosaurMusic Massive works in a pretty standard way, these techniques can be applied to any decent subtractive synth. The Daft filter is just a driven 4 pole low-pass I believe, emulating the scream might be the only difficult part, but honestly I think the scream sound is a bit too prominent here anyways.

Still a great sound and great tutorial. No point in 100% matching someone's synth, just understanding the technique to make your own, thanks Enzed.

  • @MorrockW Um...I didn't ask anything, man. o -o I was just saying he should put 'In Massive' in the title so people will know it's how to make Daft Punk's 'Da Funk' Synth in Massive.

  • @TechnosaurMusic What I'm saying is, he makes it in massive, but you should be able to use these same settings in and standard synthesizer plugin, so the fact that it's in massive doesn't matter.

  • @MorrockW Of course, it's all a matter of what the synth can do and what you know about sound production. But I'm just saying that I didn't ask. :P

  • @TechnosaurMusic I know, but I'm just replying with why I think he shouldn't put in Massive :P

  • @MorrockW the trip is how close he gets to their sound with only massive.daft punk obviously didnt use massive in da 90's to make that sound lol. they actually used probably a bunch of shit(pedal, analogsynth, certain compressors, ect.)understand why this is impressive.

  • @Jazztenor20 aww gee thanks man :D

  • @Jazztenor20 They probably did it with just one hardware synth... maybe a delay unit.

  • It would be cool with a tutorial on dangers 14h54 synth!!

  • can I make this in massive 1.1.5?

  • @hestonsverige yeah you can make it in any version of massive :)

  • @hestonsverige sure can!

  • Sounds cool, but not as cool as my Delerium Silence remake! hehe.

  • wayy too thumpy but im sure you could add an eq to get rid of that.

    good tut :)

  • @oOBeagleOo exactly, there are heaps of things to do to make it more like the original, or customize it to your own tastes :D

  • @nzmusic101 Yeah exactly, cheers for this mate. You tutorials are by far the best on youtube :)

  • What VST synths other than Massive do you use Ryan? Ever tried z3ta?

  • @conorc94 nope i have not tried - only use massive and sylenth :-)

  • @nzmusic101 It doesnt sound excactly like the original

But it still sounds really beast

  • @nzmusic101 You're probably better off too... z3ta can make some great sounds but the interface is horrible :/

  • @conorc94 unfortunately z3ta is not compatible with mac :s

  • @conorc94 isnt z3ta pc only

  • god I wish I had massive ><

  • PLEASE Do Zedd's Bass in Lady Gaga - Marry the night REMIX PLEASE

  • can you please make a tutorial for the bass from Jack It - Felguk?? so fire

BTW this tutorial is bau5 :D thank you!!

  • Now...Zedd Bass ;)

  • I've wanted this Tut for Ages!!! :D maybe an octave higher but awesone anyway :)

  • Keep up the work, we all appreciate it! Good job

  • it's not quite like the original, but I like it! it's ballsier and more contemporary

  • thanks

  • Awesome
