That's impressive man! I just started strongman training and I'm prepping for my second contest in December. I'm resting this week due to a shoulder tendon issue from log press. Injury free is tough in this sport. Trying to decide which ones to tough through so you don't lose strength sucks. Anyway, great leg press...coming from a guy who's max is just under the 1000lb mark (AKA lightweight, lol).
@ThatDankGuy Ma sei italiano? Io sono italiano-russo.Comunque Faccio anche io palestra e mi piace molto la pressa, anche lo squat.Io nello squat cerco di scendere il più possibile,è giusto fare così?Beh ovviamente non vado sottoterra però scendo molto.
@mothebestofall Since I was 16 but I took a 10 year lay off when I got married. I'm back into it which is the main thing. I'm trying my best to stay injury free but it's hard not to push yourself too hard.
Don't let it hit the safety to much bro, it gives you some momentum plus it lessens your workout. Lower the safeties and you'll have an amazing workout dude! Nice job.
@mikper7 Ya, you are right. It was probably heavier than I thought. I should of put some knee wraps on and pushed myself a little harder. I probably could of done a bit more.
@Paripovich Thanks for the complement! I'm wondering how much I could do with knee wraps. Unfortunately I do not have a good leg press at my current gym to find out.
Good job! Great intensity! I just responded with a leg press video of my own, 1,220 lbs. for 6 reps... figure it's a good way to push myself to keep getting better!!
thats good, im sure you could do more, last summer at the hight of my lifting i was doing 1500 at 10 reps, but the machine couldn't take more then that.
I want to say "I can do that!!" haha but haven't done leg press seriously since freshmen year and at that point i could only get 1020 up and that wasn't easy haha been 4 years going to go to a gym soon, will try to get a vid up of what I'm capable of now, great vid glad to see someone actually knows what technique is.
@vispher101 I only did it because I was visiting a friend and his gym had a good one. My leg press is old and has a weird angle so I don't train on it. It's a valid piece of equipment but I would rather do 20 sets of squats instead. I hope it goes well with training again. Your first 4 months will be tough. I had a 10 year lay off and it was hell getting back into it.
@ThatDankGuy ouch yeah I'll be pretty sore for awhile but thats how i know it's working haha, my squat isn't too great I only ever got 360 up before i stopped and that was about a year ago, I always like cleans more and my deadlift is only 320 or so... hurts to try picking the bar up for some reason, but the coach said my technique was spot on so it's got to be a problem inside me ha
@lostda9 Good tip. This was only my 4th time on a leg press machine (we have a crappy one at the gym I work out at) so the next time I visit there I'll give it a try.
@StephenAnthonyMusic I've done 30 full (to parallel) with 315 lbs and 8 reps with 455 lbs. I've changed my focus now and don't lift as heavy as I could (I'm getting scared of being injured again - 5 cm pec tear last year). I'm still in the gym 5 days a week but not I'm lifting smarter and getting the same results. I'm also running now (4 km each morning) which I thought I would never do...ever. I do miss the heavy lifts but I feel much better and less sore now.
@mbr05c Thanks for the encouragement. I've decided to cut back on the heavy lifting and concentrate on better form/more reps. I don't have any knee problems yet so I should cut back now while I'm still healthy.
Awesome I just a 1000...which is 21 pies and a 10 at my gym...for 3 reps. Holy crap that was something. Awesome lifting...I watch these vids for inspiration. THANKS
@hfd966 Good job! Keep it up. I would suggest knee wraps for when you go heavier (I should take my own advice). Don't be afraid to wrap them extremely tight. It should hurt to bend them. That's the tension you need. Thanks for the kind words.
@TORRES91982 Not sure what you mean by that. If you are talking about foot position I'm on the top part of the platform. To be honest, this isn't much of a weight to be proud of. I've seen a lot of people push way more but it was fun doing so I posted the video. I could of added a few more plates/dumbbells but this was the first time using this machine at my friend's gym and I didn't know what I was able to do.
@ThatDankGuy No mate ur doing well, welldone!! i just wanted to know coz u couldnt tell from the angle, i generally use the bottom part myself as i feel when im using the top im using more of the leg hams and glutes and i prefer to use leg press for the bottom part to work more of the quads and around the knee area,
@ThatDankGuy your doing good, taking it nice and deep, watch ur lower back thougha friend of mine hurt his going too deep on leg press, good luck for the future, keep posting and educating, im going to get some of mine up soon ! peace out mate.
@CubanLUVash That's a difficult question to answer. It all depends on what your current program is and how good your form/discipline is. What are you doing for your leg workouts and how often?
@jackpotter13 You are right on that. By keeping the momentum going is was easier to push. I've seen a lot of drugged up people push way more weight for sure. The thing is they will loose most of their gains when the go off their cycle while I'll keep slowly pushing on. The only thing that is stopping my from going harder is the constant soreness from lifting. I think I need to take it back a bit and realize that I'm not 20 any more.
Thanks for the comment. Right now I sure don't feel like one. Four months ago I tore my right pec (5 cm). I'm still weighing around 290 lbs but haven't been able to do much upper body workouts (I'm only benching the bar now - 45 lbs). Physio is helping but it's going to be a long road back. I miss lifting heavy. But on the up side my leg workouts are crazy fun now. My goal is a 670 lbs squat by summer.
nice im 14 yers old 129 poubds i was wearing a single ply rage bench shirt and got 255 on a 2 board for a solid rep my deadlift is 331 @ 127 my squat is 275 in a single ply hardcore
I can lift heavy on squats but now that's a problem coz I sustained a bad back injury. I tried different compound exercise routines like lunges and other stuff but it would still hurt pretty bad. I'm doing leg presses instead (in addition to leg extensions) now, & I do them on every workout day to compensate. Do u think it's enough? I don't feel as sore as I did when I did squats!
I am not qualified to tell you what you can and can't do with your condition but here's my thoughts.
What kind of back injury? My friend has problems with his back and can't do squats anymore. He switches up his foot positions on the leg press to hit his legs different.
When you do leg extensions try using just one leg at a time and alternate your foot (pronate/supernate) position.
It's an annular tear and L4L5 disc prolapse (left sided). It's causing me only back pain, no nerve or sciatic pain. So surgery isn't advisable. The doctor did suggest I do back strengthening exercises to relieve the pressure; he didn't specify anything so I'm doing rack pulls (deadlifts) coz it's not aggravating the pain. I'm doing the leg extensions 1 foot at a time. I'll try the switching thing when doing those leg presses. Thanx for ur suggestions :)
I would have to disagree with you on that one. Power lifters use this machine as an effective assistance exercise. First, it allows the lifter to work the lower body when the lower back is tired/stressed. Often power lifters have back pain and this exercise allows someone to work their legs if they can only squat one day a week.
Over all this is a great exercise that allows lifters to strengthen the legs and hips and not over stress the lower back in the process. This will never replace my squat but it compliments it well.
Where did you read that it's inefficient? I challenge you to look up the top 5 power lifters in the world (training schedules) and you'll see four of them regularly use this machine in their routines.
It's inefficient because math says it is. I agree, it's a fantastic exercise and of course it's good to use, it's just that you NEVER actually push the amount that you load.. that's all I'm saying.
So if he isn't pushing the whole load that's on their then how much is he pushing? The machine is just sloped and not completely vertical, it's still a 1440lbs weight that he is moving, there's no math that's wrong. It's not like the weight gets lighter cause it's on a slope, it's still all the weight is being moved by his legs. He moves 1440lbs of weight with his power and the machine does nothing for him, just holds it in place.
He's pushing sin(45)*1,440 pounds, which is roughly 1,200. Some of the weight is lost in being pushed towards the center of the earth (gravitational pull.) He is NOT pushing the full amount of weight, and nobody ever does. The only way to is if the track were upright. Trust me. And yes, the weight does get lighter because it's on a slope, that's EXACTLY why it gets lighter.
Sort of, but not quite. He has to apply 1200 pounds to the sled to keep the weights from moving. When he extends, he is pushing with more than 1200lbs to accelerate the weights, the actual force depends on how fast the weight accelerates.
In high school I would be able to do two handed, pumped, reverses off one leg. My two leg approach wasn't as good. I never had it measured but I would have marks on my mid forearm from dunks. We would have a competition to see who would have the biggest mark and lowest one.
I played basketball last night as was still able to one hand power dunk it. At 285 lbs I for sure can't dunk as high as before but it's still a dunk.
oh thats so cool; because ive always heard that jumping is god-given or whatever, and to see that with proper weight training, its possible to achieve a high vertical, thanks for the confidence booster
that form was flawless! that's what i'm trying to achieve. i have a long way to go with losing the weight, but as for the strength, it's there. i have a lot of respect for ppl that KNOW how to power lift and do it properly. yours is a work of art.
Hey, I'm in seventh grade track and I'm decently fast, but i want to get faster. How many pounds do you think I should start with to build up my leg strength so i could do a sixty meter sprint in under eight seconds?
That's a question I could not answer. Leg strength is only part of the equation in sprinting. Proper training (wind sprints, block speed, etc) is multidisciplinary. I did do track in high school. My best time in grade 11 for the 100 meter was 11.02 seconds (asphalt track, no cleats just volleyball shoes). I weighed around 200 lbs (6' 3") at that time and just started weight training. All the best and good luck.
They are placed on the higher angle. I have no idea which is better for you. It just comes natural for me to place them there. Next time I'm on that machine I'll try it the other way. I don't do leg press regularly. Mostly just squats (heavy and high reps).
Are your feet placed on the higher angle or the lower angle of the press pad? I rotate using both angles, but which one is better to do the leg press from? I feel more stretch from the high angle, but you get more extension (aka-more difficulty) from the lower angle.
Go higher but play it smart. I use leg wraps when I go heavier than this. I do squats as well but compared to the other guys I lift with they are years ahead of me. Thanks for the form complement! I see other videos and they are only going down five inches, instead of deep/full reps.
Your fucking strong. I wonder if you do squats 2. Your form is just perfect. You put your hand to the chest too. Just like me. With the only difference that I can only lift 500lbs.
Well, considering I started lifting in Jan/08 and didn't start hitting legs till Aug/08 I would say it took me 4 months to accomplish that. I always had large legs/calfs so they haven't gotten any bigger just stronger.
In Jan/08 I started working out. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor at that time and was not feeling well. I decided to get back into the gym (after not working out for 8 years)and I've seen some great results. I just started hitting legs three months ago (I always had big legs but my upper body was the issue).
wow the way he did them going all the way back most people go half way

Good set. How much can you squat though?
nenzi671 2 years ago
I did 12 plates (585 lbs) for 3 reps last Monday but they were not very deep. I'm just getting used to the weight.

if you dont mind me asking, what is your vertical leap?
crackwhen 2 years ago
In high school I would be able to do two handed, pumped, reverses off one leg. My two leg approach wasn't as good. I never had it measured but I would have marks on my mid forearm from dunks. We would have a competition to see who would have the biggest mark and lowest one.
I played basketball last night as was still able to one hand power dunk it. At 285 lbs I for sure can't dunk as high as before but it's still a dunk.

oh thats so cool; because ive always heard that jumping is god-given or whatever, and to see that with proper weight training, its possible to achieve a high vertical, thanks for the confidence booster

that was impressive but id rather ya moved ya hands down to the grips so ya cnt touch um at the bottom for support

that form was flawless! that's what i'm trying to achieve. i have a long way to go with losing the weight, but as for the strength, it's there. i have a lot of respect for ppl that KNOW how to power lift and do it properly. yours is a work of art.

Hey, I'm in seventh grade track and I'm decently fast, but i want to get faster. How many pounds do you think I should start with to build up my leg strength so i could do a sixty meter sprint in under eight seconds?
Spocksbrother 2 years ago
That's a question I could not answer. Leg strength is only part of the equation in sprinting. Proper training (wind sprints, block speed, etc) is multidisciplinary. I did do track in high school. My best time in grade 11 for the 100 meter was 11.02 seconds (asphalt track, no cleats just volleyball shoes). I weighed around 200 lbs (6' 3") at that time and just started weight training. All the best and good luck.

Thanks, i'll definitely start doing some wind sprints and stuff.

They are placed on the higher angle. I have no idea which is better for you. It just comes natural for me to place them there. Next time I'm on that machine I'll try it the other way. I don't do leg press regularly. Mostly just squats (heavy and high reps).
ThatDankGuy 2 years ago
Are your feet placed on the higher angle or the lower angle of the press pad? I rotate using both angles, but which one is better to do the leg press from? I feel more stretch from the high angle, but you get more extension (aka-more difficulty) from the lower angle.

Go higher but play it smart. I use leg wraps when I go heavier than this. I do squats as well but compared to the other guys I lift with they are years ahead of me. Thanks for the form complement! I see other videos and they are only going down five inches, instead of deep/full reps.
ThatDankGuy 3 years ago
awesome dude. i wanna get to that. must ive done was 1000. but im not sure if i should go any higher..
corvetteracer916 3 years ago
Your fucking strong. I wonder if you do squats 2. Your form is just perfect. You put your hand to the chest too. Just like me. With the only difference that I can only lift 500lbs.

whats your current diet
moosildinho 3 years ago
Well, considering I started lifting in Jan/08 and didn't start hitting legs till Aug/08 I would say it took me 4 months to accomplish that. I always had large legs/calfs so they haven't gotten any bigger just stronger.

hot damn!! u'd kill someone if u kicked em lol
Cubanoflame87 3 years ago
good job brother. How long did it took you to cross 1000 mark.Just wondering.

Thats the way to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!
400Plus 3 years ago
I'm assuming it's easier, although I haven't tried the horizontal machine yet.
ThatDankGuy 3 years ago
Is this vertical leg press easier than horizontal?
BellJH 3 years ago
yes vertical is little easier.
I have done 1000*6 on the vertical last week but in now was as hell i can do that much on a horizontal.
In fact i feel uncomfortable pressing on a horizontal.
jaredgeorge1988 3 years ago

In Jan/08 I started working out. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor at that time and was not feeling well. I decided to get back into the gym (after not working out for 8 years)and I've seen some great results. I just started hitting legs three months ago (I always had big legs but my upper body was the issue).
ThatDankGuy 3 years ago
Man, your legs are like tree trunks.
How long did it take to get you up to that weight on leg press?
