They argue over wether it's an Irish song or British, there different versions with altered lyrics. Either way it's an awesome song for Dublin to have regardless of true origin or not!
I remember this song in school well we did a lot of songs but this one always stuck with me because even has a Child I remember how sad this song was and I offten wonder if it was about a real women.
My nanna used to sing this to me when I was little. I knew all the words by the time I was about 6-7. even though I used to want to cry cos It's so sad. x
Some Brits call that sculpture "The Tart With A Cart" LOL.
This song really freaked me (an American) out when I was little because of the strange lyrics and weird melody. Don't remember who I heard sing it. Maybe Robert Goulet.
Dublin has to be the most boring and morbid town in the world and people who live there just dont know life or there own self worth its like a prison because almost every bar and food store has arrogant polish security gaurds on them and everyone judges you for simple things like the way you dress act behave walk and talk its SICK get the fuck out and live your life . You cannot express your true self in Dublin because the culture is so extremely different to everywhere.
The Statue is located at the Bottom of Grafton Street and College Green, Trinity College is in the Background. One will find lots of Tourists getting their picture taken with Molly. Just around the corner on Suffolk Street is O'Donoghues Pub where one can drop in for a refreshment.
I love this song surprisingly! It has grown on me thanks to my dad playing it the whole time; and now I'm singing it for my Junior Cert music practical! :D <3 xO
Thanks I have read wikipedia would have thought there would have been an historical reference to an actual person called Molly Malone - like the references to the Grand Old Duke of York or Ring-a-ring-a-rosie!
Alas! I HAVE FOUND THE SONG MY FATHER SANG TO ME WHEN I WAS YOUNG :D, I was always ashamed to ask him :/

I believe Elvis would have done justice to this song with his mellifluous voice. What a pity he passed this one by.

I knew a girl named Molly Malloy and she died way too young. I would have love this sound anyway, but her tragic death makes it hit home even more.

My god this is the song the old bum was singing in A Clockwork Orange, just before they gathered around to beat him up.

I lived in germany for many years and I had a friend ( A German) Who sang this song so well it brought tears to your eyes.
Funny how so many people don't know what a cockle is.
I think the song is best done a bit slower with a somber chorus, then you can realize the impact of the true meaning of the Song
