I've used a G7th on a banjo and found that the sound was choked out and didn't ring long. Switched to a shubb and the problem disapeared. I thought it was my banjo. I went 2 years before I figured this out. The only thing that I can see is that the shub has a harder surface applying pressure on the fretboard than the G7th.
So today my capo of around 6 months broke -.- I guess it didn't had the force anymore so it snapped. Time for a new one, and now I guess I understand that some Capos don't last forever.
Yeah, I've done the pencil and gum-band trick before, works good in a pinch. When I first saw that roller thing at 4:00, I said, "What a piece of crap," and that was before I saw that it damaged the instrument.
The Kyser capo put a ding in the neck on my one week old Martin D-28! Lucky it was only in the clear coat so I sanded it out and am now looking for a new capo.
Thank you for all the recommendations. Your pencil capo really attracted my attention giving me an idea of making one myself but with better materials. Thanks again.
thanks for the tutorial! This was very helpful since I'm a newbie and was having difficulty trying to figure out the differences between the various different ones! God bless! :)
Hi i recently have gotten the kyser capo and the D string buzzes on my classical. Do u recommened getting the G7th capo or changing my strings. The price would be simaliar but which one would be recommened by you, changing the string or getting the G7th capo? Thank you for the review.
Hi recently bought the kyser capo but it buzzes on my D string. Do you think it is the string or the capo because i was thinking of buying the G7th capo or getting new strings. Could you please tell me if i should get the G7th capo or change my strings?
Well, I've used the Dunlop Trigger for many years and always wondered why everybody doesn't use them. Simple one-hand operation. Models are available for both steel and nylon.
You know...I like Kyser's, but honestly, I've found those things wear out very quickly. If you're a regular capo user, they wear out faster than you can even SAY capo. I prefer Dunlop capo's.
And, if I didn't play as often as I did, I'd totally buy the elastic one. Three bucks. And, if you really don't use a capo much, they are a great investment.
i used the kyser single-handed capo, the spring is too hard it messed up the tune with some of the string type i use.... started using planet waves ns recently, loving it. turns out my guitar only needs a little bit of pressure on the fretboard for a clean sound, i didnt need that 'jaw of death' grip of a spring type capo. plus i can use it single handed, just need a little bit of practice

G7th capo is fab, had one for over a year, no buzz at all and it's just so reliable and sturdy as a brick, do a review on it myself if you click my username
Let me actually ask you a question, I have the adjustable planet waves capo that I believe you demo'd second, but I feel on my steel string guitar it doesn't always sound as good as I would want, and some strings buzz from time to time. Do you think that the G7th capo fixes any of those problems?
@guitarsteve6190 I don't know. I suggest you take it to a music store that has the G7th capo and ask if you can try it with your guitar in the store. Then you can find out before investing in one.
@guitarsteve6190 Yes... I came up with the idea out of dire need. Was performing at a gig and forgot to bring a capo. It worked perfectly and I could keep all the arrangements that fit my voice.
I've just brought a Kyser and i find the spring really tight, i guess thats what happens when you send your partner to the guitar shop, i miss my Shubb (i lost it)
I ordered the G7th today :) It was sort of expensive, but it's worth it. I also have a Dunlop Trigger capo which is pretty good, but it puts a little too much pressure on the guitar and I have to tune it after a while....
@bugger545 It's better to get the classical capo for a classical guitar. The neck is wider and straight. Acoustic necks are thinner and slightly curved. The capos are actually shaped differently for the 2 types of guitars.
Thank you for making a comparison of all the different kinds of CAPOs. I love the dual action Capo which is a collaboration between Planet Waves and D'Addario. Not only can you adjust the tension, but there are also models that are wide enough to use for both 6 string and 12 string acoustic guitars. The G7 Performance Capo is quite expensive. It costs more than $50 Canadian Dollars. God bless!
I would suggest to buy a Terry Gould Universal Capo. They are designed to fit any guitar neck ( Works fine on my acoustic steel string and classical guitar) and they only cost about 6-10 €. I got mine for 7€ from my local music store and it hasn't disappointed me yet!
THe best capos are the Mckenny Capos (spelling *** lol). But they cost around $100. But they are wide enough to put on any fret of your guitar, plus, they are so well made, NO fret buzzes. I have one. They are amazing. Thanks
The necks are different. The capos shaped to either fit an acoustic or classical guitar. Acoustic necks are more narrow and curved. Necks on a classic guitar are straight. It's better to use separate capos.
Depends upon the style. Usually a capo is designed that any part touching the guitar's neck will have some kind of padding on it. That one she showed damaged her neck because it was intended for an acoustic which has a much narrower neck.
50 bucks for a capo?? with that money you could buy a slave and put him to press where you need.. you'll also have the advantage that he could shift much faster from a position to another than even that rolling capo =) me, i prefer the Dunlop's remote controlled capo :))) (just kiddin' guys) good, instructive video ;)
A wonderful and informative presentation. I just love Jean's voice. I have a capo fetish and I have them all. The pencil version is only good for flat fingerboards. I can just hear the jazz players stealing a line from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", "Capos? Capos? We don't need no stinkin' capos!"
Those fellas push the strings down REALLY hard. Try the G7th or one of the Planet Waves. The Planet Waves Dual Action is great and won't push down too hard. (On the other hand, they occasionally won't push down hard enough for specialized use, but for general use, they push down hard enough.)
The Planet Waves Dual Action is the only one I've used that can be operated (usually) with one hand and won't push down on the strings as absurdly hard as the Dunlop Trigger or Kyser whatever it is.
you need a fair amount of side pressure on each side if your using an acoustic use 2 rubberband. wrap one of starting from each side so basically start wrapping the first from on the left then once you have joined in on the other side do it again but this time so on the side you ending wrapping the other rubber band. it hard to explain on a pc but i hope this give you a rough idea how to do it
I use a dunlop capo it looks a lot like the planet waves capo here but it looks even simpler. You can use one hand to put it on and they say it will last a lifetime. I'm not really sure about that but the also gave me a life long garantuee so if i do manage to break it ill get a new one for free :D
u can use a capo for elec guitar (acoustic type not classical) but if its elec guit y not use a chorus pedal? a god chorus pedal shuld give u sumthing like a capo sounding effect...

my capo almost always puts my guitar out of tune and I have the kyser one. What is wrong? I made sure it is parallel to the frets.
PageandPlant4Life 2 years ago
The problem is because you are using a Kyser capo. The Kyser capo is on a set tension, but the higher you go the tension will pull the strings.
A Schubb capo or a G7th capo will fix this since you can loosen the tension on it.

The Planet Waves Dual Action is the only one I've used that can be operated (usually) with one hand and won't push down on the strings as absurdly hard as the Dunlop Trigger or Kyser whatever it is.
