That is just chatter from the chain. It is not the IMS. The turbo didn't have the IMS issues, and you don't get that long of a warning when the IMS goes. The death rattle is short and sweet. Once you hear it, it's pretty much too late.
actually the turbos doesnt have the famous problem of the normal m96 non turbos engine , maybe have other little problem , that engine its solid like stone!
The dealer says it is loud but normal. I've done more research and the noise is probably due to worn out intermediate shaft bearings. I can also be due to a loose intermediate shaft gear. If the gear is loose the noise will not go away when you rev the engine. My noise goes away after 1.8K rpm.
Damn it. How many miles on the car? Also I spoke to some experts and indeed Porsche allows for a rather large tolerance on chain/shaft play. Having said that I understand there are others with similar engine that have recently suffered the same fate.
Man, I am scared here, I do not want to go thru another yet costly repair on this car.

Can you let us know what eventually was the problem with the noise?

So is this IMS noise or a failure?

@armanGT800
I don't know but I am splitting the case next month to find out. I'll replace the intermediate shaft and bearings and see if it gets better.

I saw your finding at 6speedonline. So IMS was ok. But I guess you did find some unusual wear on the thrust bearing. What's that all about?

@rmeuropean80112 Mine sounds almost identical, was is the IMS/bearings, or something else? Did it fix the problem?
