Wow. Learn the rules of volleyball please. Under FIVB rules, contact with any part of the body is 100% legal. Spin also has nothing to do with a double hit, it must be hit twice. If a ball is hand set, spin is indicitive that a double hit MAY have taken place, but since this was not a hand set, and since the rule does not say that if it is spinning it is a double hit, the kick is 100% legal.

in our league the foot had to be planted ont he ground for it to be legal if a kicking motion is made then its illegal, and if you have time to plant your foot you have time to make a play so its really discouraged (i play high school i dunno about university or w/e)
Its very simple. It used to be the case that kicking was illegal. That rule changed years ago. The first contact the guy makes is totally legal. However the second contact the same guy who kicked the ball makes is totally ILLEGAL. It's an OBVIOUS double-hit because you can see the ball spin. Spin like that is essentially an AUTOMATIC call of double-hit in competitive play.
Um, hmmm, perhaps one should look at FIVB (internationale) USAVolleyball (NATIONAL AND REGIONAL PLAY)and collegiate rules. Kick saves are absolutely legal (not just in the sand) Some high school regions also have adopted the below waist play.
As a general note to all commmenters, I am aware of carries in this play. This tournament is a totally amateur event in which 99% of the student body participates. Players serve as refs. Carries--unless totally and absurdly egregious--are not called.

This is entirely subjective, but I thought it was an amazing set for the position she was in. However, you are entirely correct in noting that the spiker ran into the guy on the other side. The far side got the point.
@slicksnare: I'm sure you could find a set of volleybally rules that says that hitting with your feet below the waist is illegal. However, we were playing with a ruleset consistent with the previously cited rules, which are indoor rules, (tinyurl[dot]com/34wsjx) at USAVolleyball[dot]org. It seems like a fairly standard set of rules to me and it seems a bit presumptuous to assign your preferred ruleset the status of "normal".
Regular volleyball rules state that any body part above the waste is a legal hit. So in this case the kick is illegal. Where as if they were playing with AVP rules or sand volleyball then kicking the volleyball is very legal. Only one problem, there is no sand there so the kick is still illegal.

Um, hmmm, perhaps one should look at FIVB (internationale) USAVolleyball (NATIONAL AND REGIONAL PLAY)and collegiate rules. Kick saves are absolutely legal (not just in the sand) Some high school regions also have adopted the below waist play.

As a general note to all commmenters, I am aware of carries in this play. This tournament is a totally amateur event in which 99% of the student body participates. Players serve as refs. Carries--unless totally and absurdly egregious--are not called.

Not sure what various sets of rules say, but this tournament allowed both hand hits.

This is entirely subjective, but I thought it was an amazing set for the position she was in. However, you are entirely correct in noting that the spiker ran into the guy on the other side. The far side got the point.

@slicksnare: I'm sure you could find a set of volleybally rules that says that hitting with your feet below the waist is illegal. However, we were playing with a ruleset consistent with the previously cited rules, which are indoor rules, (tinyurl[dot]com/34wsjx) at USAVolleyball[dot]org. It seems like a fairly standard set of rules to me and it seems a bit presumptuous to assign your preferred ruleset the status of "normal".

Regular volleyball rules state that any body part above the waste is a legal hit. So in this case the kick is illegal. Where as if they were playing with AVP rules or sand volleyball then kicking the volleyball is very legal. Only one problem, there is no sand there so the kick is still illegal.
