What was the purpose of showing how the bed can selectively munch on a subset of those things that it can internalize (eg it returned the half-eaten chicken bones, carton, bottle of wine) only to have it swallow up the characters whole? Was it saving its appetite for the main course? And what is going through that guy's head when he sees all the food is gone? "I must have made a mistake..." and bought chicken bones and an empty bottle of wine??
I can't imagine where the movie goes from there. I like to think that it ends with a 20 minute climax, where the villagers do battle with the monster.

The bed can partially absorb a wine bottle, eat chicken bones, but it can't dissolve some paper ( the chicken bucket). WTF?
