  • You may want to update your list. I had a written job offer contingent on a background check from Newell Rubermaid. I noted I was convicted of a felony (Grand Larceny) on my initial application. I had three phone interviews and a face to face interview before getting the offer letter. The division that offered me the job tried to get me hired and was told by the corporate HR in Atlanta I was not able to be hired because of what was found in my background check.

  • I'm 19 years old with a few possession of marijuana and k2 charges and 1 criminal threat charge, I've been convicted once and I've only been to court once and still I get denied for jobs, they don't say why but I already know why. I have a damn good resume with 4 years off job experience from fast food to Pipe lining. I can bust my ass harder then the next guy under any amount of pressure but since the laws says im a criminal I have to struggle just like the next guy because of the law.

  • I filled out an application a couple years ago that asked "Have you ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor?" just put that shit in the same question now, right? You might as well ask "Have you ever done anything wrong?"

  • first off cowboydave what the hell's a whataburger, second don't feel bad, ive been out for over a year, have 3 felony's: check fraud, credit card fraud, probation violation, i cant even get hired by mcdonalds who hire illegal mexicans and they wont even touch me

  • I cant get a job either been out 9 months and down to applying at Whataburger and even they rejected me. Get rid of the liberals and maybe they can give tax cuts to the rich so they can create more jobs, cause if you keep taxing tehm more they will keep firing and laying off. Anyone with a business mind knows you cant go into bizz to give it all away, you must make money or fail. Vote conservative and you willl see a change, also get rid of illegal aliens they have the jobs that would be for us!

  • Please type into your browser "EEOC use of criminal background checks by employers" -- To avoid racial discrimination under Title VII 42 USC 2000-e(2)(k) unlawful employment practice (disparate impact) EVERY EMPLOYER since 1975 who uses criminal background checks must have a policy called "business necessity" to examine how recent, how frenquent and relevancy of your conviction's the burden proof is on the employers -- no policy is a violation automatically -- file a complaint with local EEO -

  • BULLSHIT. I've had 20+ interviews in the last three months, and have been rejected by every single one. The word "felony" comes up, I have to explain myself, then the interviewers body language becomes uncomfortable, I start being rushed, get told "Oh, we'll call you", then they don't. I get portrayed as if I murdered my family. I was charged with "operating under the influence causing injury to self."

  • Uh Walmart?They didn't hire me because I had a misdemeanor bad check conviction from 2003, and it's 2011.

  • @oascny I'll do that.Thank You.

  • Get a letter of good conduct from your state police, for this you need proper ID, state ID, passport, DVL, citizenship, alien registration, they will conduct the background ck, and according to your criminal history, they will give you that much needed letter for work purpose.

  • @DIJV, that is correct. Class A-D Felonies are not expunged all others are just sealed, all that means is you need hire clearance to view the charges. So in a sense when the background ck is done, it won't show. Now if a CRIMS ck is conducted which is at a Federal level, everything comes out, if the ck is done thru what's consider 5 point ck, DMV, WNAY, WOLF, ADW, COGNOS then it might not come out

  • thats bullshit none of them hire if you have criminal background

  • thats bs Walmart as an example wont hire u if u have criminal records my friend after they told him he was hired on the spot he did the drug test n waited for 2 weeks for the background check he received a letter stating that he no longer was going to work for Walmart he had sexual battery when he was 16 n now he is 30 that happened 15 years ago n they said no he wont be hired that s fucking bs

  • As far as Florida goes this list means fuck all. I got 2 felony convictions from 16 and 18 years ago. Nothing major one for a bar fight and the other for possession of stolen property. The way these people act you'd think I held up a liquor store and killed the clerk. Hell Circle K did a 99 year background check on me. And in Florida no conviction, no matter how small can NEVER be sealed or expunged.

  • This is bullshit.....my felony happened 14 yrs ago and no one wants to hire me. Fuck a 'job'....i created my own job.

  • That's not true. Expungement laws vary from state to state. Some states allow felony expungement and some do not.

  • @adogzheart That all depends on the search they use. For example: a felon in Palm Beach County FL. applies for a job in that state and county allways be a felon to employers. Also, if the imployer does a federal background check, they will show up as felons, because of the national database.

  • You can't expunge felonies, you can expunge minor misdeamonrs.

  • @DIJV79 Some felonies can be expunged, lest sex crimes, most violent crimes, manslaughter, and DUI involuntary manslaughter.

  • WOW, you cant seriously believe that an x - con can work for ANY city, state, federal or government contract... IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!

  • Do not believe this list. First, no company will tell you that they won't hire persons convicted of felony unless they legally can do so. The majority of the companies on this list will not hire anyone convicted of a felony and they will never admit it under employment discrimination laws. However, rest assured, you will not get hired by these companies. They love to have your business though. So keep shopping them, they just don't want you as an employee.

  • BullShit, in Texas there is not a single company that will hire you, it's been 10 years since my feloney. To this day every company refuses to hire felons. And if you were convicted your life is F&@&ed, cause you can never have it expunged!!

  • I hope this helps :-)

  • is this for florida?

  • the sara lee one is bs i went in for interview and the employer had to stop the rest of the interview because i told him that i had a felony and never hired me at all...huge disappointment

  • I did not even do time! i took a plea deal, i never did anything to hurt anyone and my life is over

  • @wileycoyote64 tell me about it. I was with some friends who were shoplifting (i.e. I didn't even take anything) and I was still convicted. I'm not a felon at all. It's just a one time misdemeanor on my adult record. I paid a fine, and got it over with, and it seems like no one will hire me for shit. I need to find a lawyer to get this expunged as do you :(

  • Ok thanks for your efforts, however there are quite a few companies on this list that don't/won't hire people with a felony charge. Chase Bank, Home Depot, AT&T, Delta Airlines, Federal Express to name a few. These are all companies that I have applied and qualified for and did not get hired because of my felony.

  • @Blk37 Hey I was reading your comment and it says fed ex don't hire. In my area at least they do give you a chance but only during the holidays as temp. if you bust your ass they'll give you a full time offer. If you don't get it first go round go back year after.

  • @Blk37 you are so right actually most of the companies on the list dnt hire felons I have had my background since 06 have only gotten 3 jobs since then....they were not doing background checks

  • This is good! They are people who want to change their lives and better their lives! Hope this is real! Too many people who want to live a honest life cannot because of their conviction!

  • Thank you for this information. I'm trying to help my boyfriend find a job. His felons are 3-4 years old and it's really hard to find someone to give him a chance. His felons were B&E and grand larceny so positions involving money or personal information is most likely out for him. He's in college for Massage therapy and I hope that he can find a job in that field.

  • @orangenaa has your bf found a job? Good luck, I really hope he has.
