  • im tyring to learn this but it will probably never sound this good

  • Gain is not volume. Be careful with that.

  • shockingly good

  • @rupertpbell Shockingly *great :P

  • Try szamar madar, venetian snares.

  • 240p :( ....

  • Wow this is a really beautiful piece.

  • This sound quality is bad and I love Elgar.

  • This is my favorite Edgar/Cello piece EVER!

  • Karl Pilkington is a genius.

  • Simply beautiful :)

  • Brings me to tears, every time. Good memories & bad.

  • @ZchMuseRules Uhm, what? I'm just pointing out that the sound quality of this video is very bad, and if people want to fully enjoy this concerto, they're better off listening/watching another version instead. I don't see how that comment would be horrible..

  • Horrible distortion in the movements when the orchestra goes full out, listen to Yo-Yo Ma's video instead.

  • Comment removed

  • @MathijsSch What is more horrible, the distortion or your inutil comment

  • Best interpretation ever!!!

  • The loud sections of This are full of distortion

  • I love Elgar for composing this :)

  • Yes, could you please confirm which recording this is? Artist, album?

There is disagreement in the comments.

    Thanks!

  • @Teghead This is Jacqueline du Pré playing the cello and John Barbirolli conducting London Symphony Orchestra.

  • @MaximMig

I Love the interpretation of Du Prè

  • It is my dream to play this peace with an orchestra.

  • I believe it's Yo-Yo Ma's recording, but is it just me or is the quality rather poor here around the most emphatic sections?

  • ohh August Rush

  • so sad

  • MAN THE DROP AT 2:29 SHOOK MY CAT.....WAIT this isnt dubstep...mmmm cello

  • @FU7IM7CANADIAN Ha haaaaa this made me laugh :P

  • @FU7IM7CANADIAN

That drop was so filthy I choke-slammed my nan.

  • @FU7IM7CANADIAN it's not the cello, it's the 240p..

  • I ♥ Cello! :D

  • @MoRpH4LP Hey I am so sorry for not recognizing your credits...I believe I left a comment that said "You should at least credit the artist.." Anyways, I apologize..

  • @mikhkos Completely agree (:

  • @mikhkos I listened to this and then that Snares track. Both have such a feral desperation, it's overwhelming really.

  • A masterpiece!

  • im 13 and i play this song woo!

  • @KandyKaneKendall I'm 17 and I don't need to brag about what I can do!

  • they say an Englishmans home is his castle... well, this few square feet in a conrete jungle may be... but i wish i had more.

I wish I had the talent, the inspiration, the joi de vive !

    oh England

  • My own interpretation of this is a man who fell in love with his lover but his romantic interest never knew the depth of his feelings, and she died before he could ask her to be with him in a real relationship. So his feelings will forever go unknown.

But hey, that's just me. I haven't been studying the cello for very long

  • @thepurpleeskimo3256 MY interpretation is a lonely dude whose internets isn't working so he can't watch his daily alotted time of gay porn. HEY! YOU CAN'T JUDGE ME! THIS is MY interpretation of somebody else's art, and it's as valid as yours.

  • this is probably my favorite piece of classical music; its just so intense and moving.

  • This sounds as if someone hurried through it.....unless it was altered to sound so but I prefer Du Pre's version more.

    :)

  • @FeedMeMikey This is DuPre's version!!!

  • quality is soooooooo bad

  • I can feel the drama of this song...amazing

  • I heard this song a LOONG time ago, and then I watched August Rush, and this song was featured in it and I fell in love with it even more =)

  • Watch a slideshow of Otto Dix paintings while listening to the cello concerto ... Nothing captures World War One better than the combination of those two.

  • and for all who want to know, this was played by my most favorite cellist.

    jacqueline du pre.

look her up on here, i think they have a live recording of her paying this concerto :D

  • Simply breathtaking. This is the only music that truly moves me.

  • this is so amazingly beautiful

  • I first heard this piece on the movie Hilary and Jackie and absolutely fell in love. It takes my breath away, gives me goosebumps. Elgar was an incredible composer. This and the Serenade for string orchestra are astounding. It figures that there are 0 dislikes for this. It's just amazing.

  • @mikhkos same!

  • i think this is du pre playing. sounds almost identical, to me

  • @mikhkos same here

  • This song just takes my breathe away

    especially the beginning.

  • wow.

  • 25 seconds of pure pain. Absolutely brilliant, one can almost feel it.

  • i wonder if i can express that in art

  • .....so beautiful.....in a heartbreaking way....

  • @mikhkos me too :D

  • I wonder....... the playing in this recording sounds very much like du Pre's playing. When I listen to it I actually think that it's her playing. Is this actually Yo-yo Ma's playing or du Pre's?

  • @charizianne Its not yo-yo ma, FORSURE. His vibrato isn't as tight as it is here..

  • apparrently this was 1 of the peices he wrote BFORE his wife died witch was sorta weird coz he went in2 all the sad stuff after his wife died (Caroline Alice) apparently this was about world war 1 and what he thought about life and death :S but a lovely peice chek out the 1 with the CSO !

  • Does anyone know where i can listen to bronze in e minor for cello?

  • Yes, it is. Beautiful.

  • I heard this in august rush and recognized it from the V-Snares song. Had to look it up to see who wrote it though. Great piece!

  • You can feel the pain of his breaking heart listening to this piece. I feel sorry for him. It must have been so painful, but it's beautiful that he expressed it so well.

  • Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beginning felt a little rushed, thats the most emotional part of this piece.

  • Nothing expresses emotion better than the cello.

  • The violin is capable, but a distant second. Never any winds.

  • @angharadceri17 Closest instrument to human vocal cords...

  • @angharadceri17 I love the cello, my friend, but personally, the piano steals my heart!

  • @angharadceri17 I love the cello, my friend, but personally, the piano steals my heart! However, this piece could not be performed on the piano. It's just too pure on the cello.

  • @angharadceri17 You could say a crushing blow to the temple conveys emotion perfectly, though rather explicitly, you really should specify to avoid confusion in future.

  • @angharadceri17 , except maybe a synthesizer? Why limit your creativity.

  • this is great. it's a little sad, though, that most of the people i've talked to know this as the "august rush" song...):

  • I love jacqueline she was a perfect playing the cello, so sad her illnes and death.

I saw the movie about her life, and since that time i love this music masterpiece

  • so beautiful

  • Top notch. Thanks a bunch for the post

  • That's exactly how I found it.

  • venetian snares know were to sample from... the classics were, are and will be the greatest in thee music industry ! I looked it up after I saw August Rush... this song was on the soundtrack. I only knew the song played by Venetian Snares, but I kinda always knew it was a sample from a cello concerto... thank you for posting!

  • @bboyabdul i knew it first from v snares also technically XD

  • cosmic!

  • Perfect descriprion

  • Can you please tell me what this recording is? Thank you for posting

  • a cello concert?

  • Bravo!

    *sarcastic applause*

  • @MoRpH4LP nice answer. Goes to show that any idiot can put up a fantastic song! Shame that we don't know who to thank for this wonderful recording!

  • @MoRpH4LP He/she means who is playing it with which orchestra/group. :) I would like to know too!

  • @MoRpH4LP

You could at least tell who recorded it. It's Jacqueline du Pré BTW.

  • @CapitaineNemo It actually is edward elgar in ths recording. If you listen to her performance and this back to back, you can hear some diferences right from the start. Just my opinion. Sorry if im wrong.

  • @MoRpH4LP Hey at least credit the artist!!! It just sounds like its yours.

  • @snowking0215 hey noboby thinks its MoRpH4LP and hey he credited the composer and hey he doesn't need to credit the artist and hey you don't to start a sentence with hey seeing as this is virtual and not the real world no one can hear you shout hey!

  • Read my comment properly and you'll see that I tagged the fucking person and started my comment with hey. Look at your comment, you have a 'hey' every 5 words! And why are you talking to me? Why the fuck are you being such a bitch and a douche bag at the same time? Hey just a small tip, if you really are a smart ass, why don't you go fucking teach kids at a school? Why the fuck are you fixing people's English on YouTube? Don't talk to me anymore. You're a waste of space and time.

  • Jacqueline Du Pre and sir John Barbirolli with the London Symphony Orchestra.

    Definitely the best recording :D

  • @joaoriquito I'm pretty sure it's Du Pre's recording.

  • @joaoriquito jacqueline du pre

  • @joaoriquito I believe this is Jacqueline Du Pré. MoRpH4LP, I am interested in where you got this file because I can't seem to find it in such quality anywhere else.

  • @joaoriquito Du pré, look for the elgar & dvorak concerto Cd.

  • @edugg Than k you so much for the inidication. Will check and confirm.

  • @joaoriquito It's a recording of Jacqueline du Pre

  • @joaoriquito Hey this is a recording of Jacqueline Du Pre...

  • Comment removed

  • @joaoriquito

    It's by Jacqueline DuPre.

  • @asylumzero It's actually by Edward Elgar and was written 26 years before jacqueline du Pré was even born, however it is true that her rendition 1962 made it famous because originally when it was played in 1919 it was not liked by the public-

  • @joaoriquito I am almost sure it is Jacqueline du Pre's first performance of the Elgar in 1963 with Sir John Barbarolli conducting the London symphony
