  • I was going to ask where is vinnie, but I see that has been asked lol

  • WHERE'S JIMMY CARL BLACK, THE INDIAN OF THE GROUP? AND ARTIE TRIPP AND JOHNNY GUERIN?

  • I don't think I could even attempt these fills ever in my drumming career...

  • Whatever we say... or write here... We all know that Vinnie Colaiuta was the Best... he is INSANE... Musical, Groove master... Reader.... Vinnie is an Alien, That's Why he put Zappa into another level... and That's why Zappa put him on drums... Just at the time he know that he was an alien...

  • it bears repeating... WHERE'S VINNIE?!?!

  • Vinnie Colaiuta.........exactly, best out of all of em!

  • WHERE'S VINNIE?!

  • Y VINNIE COLAIUTA????? SE LOS COME A TODOOS ESOS

  • zappa never played with anyone who could'nt play.the guy was a perfectionist and genius and all the players who played with him had to be also.anyone who thinks bozzio is crap really needs to listen to what he had to play with frank then say hes crap if you still can.he may not have played much on this clip but with others playing at the same time he played what was fitting.a jam is about space for others to perform and not to over power others in the group.

  • WHERE IS VINNIE?

  • No Morgan Agren?

  • Bozzio is not drummer

  • Chester adding the sauce :)

  • So many people don't like bozzio and think he has show off kit!

I want to help you! But I can't, your ears are stuffed with wax.

  • The only missing ingredient to this delicious mix is Dunbar and Colaiuta!

  • i was waiting for vinnie to be lowered in on a chopper......

  • Bozzio is completely overdone...he was disappointing as shit with all that.

  • @Malictum You should see the whole hour long jam before you base it on the mere 30 seconds shown here. This is just a preview.

  • Mr. Zappa was a perfectionist all the way!

  • No se memovio ni un pelo....

  • Aynsley Dunbar is conspicuously absent. Not that there are any slouches here...

  • Really?! Bozzio's solo, he's only gonna play 3 toms outta the 45 others he has?! Get outta here bozzio.

  • @GoGoNards Thank you!

  • @GoGoNards

well, someone playing the piano don't just bring 3 buttons when he is just going to play one cord, right.

the 4 of them are the best in the world they know what they are doing, you however are not(do you play an instrument?) if so then you should understand this.

and one last thing, we drummers are perfectionists. if a drummer no a musican isn't they will not progress.

to have such a big drumkit you need to have progressed far beyond what others will go.

    Use Dax!!!

  • @GoGoNards Yeah, we all know that the secret to a great drummer is how many toms he can forcefully enter into a song. Honestly, it takes real talent to create complex rythms with simple layouts. Anyone can bring together 45 toms and just randomly bash them, calling it a rythm, it takes a true master to make new, complex, innovative rythms with a small setup.

  • @GoGoNards On a standard tuned, six string guitar with 24 frets, a guitarist has 162 pitches available to him at all times. Not all of them are used in one solo because many of them would not fit the context of the *song*. I didn't see anything wrong with his solo. He took an area of his kit that inspired him at that moment and took a rhythmic idea and experimented with it, pretty much what the rest of the drummers did. He doesn't have to use it all at once.

  • They all look like they have tendinitis

  • @CCTSPORTES why?

  • I wish all of Megadeth's drummers would do a thing like this, and it should be called MegaDrums. Because they've had some of the best drummers in metal, such as: Lee Rausch, Dijon Carruthers, Chuck Behler, Nick Menza, Jimmy DeGrasso, Vinnie Colaiuta and Shawn Drover.

  • yeah it's not about time ;)

  • I wish you could have gotten Aynsley Dunbar for this....Zappa cited him as his

favorite drummer..... These guys are all above and beyond the call of great.

  • What's different about this is it is compositional - just like Frank's guitar work - it was always going somewhere - it wasn't just shredding for shredding's sake - same here - don't get the sense this is just drum solos - it is heading somewhere. No ego involved.

  • @BeeEl12 No ego involved. Exactally. Although either the vid was edited or they were sorta sticking to something written or rehearsed. Or they just let each other solo while the others play a sorta back beat. But thats the whole idea of jamming. Either way it never sounded cluttered or goofy. I definitely look up to these guys.

  • wow that was sick good job All great drummers out there do not copy anything that i do this is because im just improvising every single song i do i improvise but if you do try and copy what i do ..you are my friend :D thank you people and please subscribe & comment on my videos for your own opinion :D click on my link

  • THEY WERE AL GREAT DRUMMERS THERE WAS NO BEST-ANSLEY RALPH CHESTER WERE GREAT FOR ZAPPA THAT ERA PRODUCED THOSE DRUMMERS LIKE THE DRUMMERS PRODUCED THAT EAR ALL 1972-THOUGHT 1980 I DO BELIEVE

  • drummers this good should be considered illegal to use in a band due to unfair competition

  • by far the most musical drum jam they've had on drum channel. beautifully sincronized

  • Eli Manning plays drums too!

  • what's up with all the hate?

    sick video.

  • anyone remember Mr. Thompson with Zappa on, I believe, Saturday Night Live? 'I am the slime of your tv screen?

Slime started running down the monitors of the nose bleed crowd.

    Awesome!

  • 27 people should be removed from the gene pool.

  • @firstmusic00 35 now.

  • yeah! thats art man!!

  • im sory but these guys are not good drummers at all

doesnt make sense to me how everyone think these guys are good

  • @nigelic Lets see your video tough guy.

  • testing....

  • MASTER!!!!!

  • Am i the only one that thinks this sounds bad, and cind of "un sync" ? ^^

  • @123LarsUlrich Yes.

  • I wish the drums were each panned completely one way, I think that'd be a killer effect!

  • Bozzio can hardly play the drums in this... his kit size is SO pointless. hye's just showing off. with his kit that costs more than an average house, and took longer to put together than a snail circumnavigating the globe

  • I dont mean any harm to bozzio, but I think he´s overrated..

  • Never just heard a bunch of amazing drummers play, but you really get a nice isolated feel for their genius. Nice.

  • I don't get bozzio's kit, too big and too obnoxious. Watch Max Roach and see the plethora of sounds he could get from a four piece kit.

  • @Qmeister3000 Yah, I want everyone to sound just like Max. What sense does that make? I am a big Max and Bop fan, but enjoy the wide range of drumming out today. Free your mine, bro.

  • @Qmeister3000 Or Buddy RIch etc. All of the best of that era.

  • yoda says:

jizz my pants this video has made me.

  • easily the greatest collection of drummers to ever come out of a signle band....Bozzio is by far my favorite

  • which one's terry bozzio? OHH the one with the biggest drum set ever :D

  • What about Morgan Ågren!? He should be there for sure

  • ahhhh!!!! music!!!!

    this is incredible.

  • why i don't like bozzio???

  • @nakkiuros ... vinnie...

  • The range in these drummers are a testament to how versatile Frank really was

  • Timbalada vira a ópera do silêncio perto deste trio

  • anyone else playing along?

  • one guy looks like Eli Manning, but Eli could never throw like a Zappa drummer.

  • I love how Ralph Humphrey has this tiny little drum kit, but still creates beautiful music from it.

  • i love them all in different contexts, tney are all great musicians....

But can you explain what are they proving here ?

they " make a noisy jazz mess here ?" No ?

  • @lowdow13 I don't think they are trying to "prove" anything, I think they are just having fun. Music is supposed to be fun, man.

  • and ruth underwood??

  • i hate terry bozzio

  • sounds like a mess to me haha. these guys deserve there own time

  • Terry's kit is not that useful for him. I'm betting, Mike Portnoy deserves this kind of thing. But Terry? Nah. He can use a simple rock kit instead.

  • @maharlika329 portnoy has the perfect kit for him... and terry has the perfect kit for his terry bozzio stuff xD... he actually uses his whole kit and that in am amazing way though i saw him play chad smiths kit before(also in a drumchannel video) and it sounded awesome too... but it wouldn't fit the music that terry plays

  • This nonsense doesn't advance the art of drumming one centimeter.

    Self-indulgent, non-musical crap.

  • e vinnie colaiuta?????'

  • black page the third? hmmmm

  • can't help it, every time I see Bozzio I immediately look in the dictionary under "musical masturbation" and guess what? There's his pic. I'd love to see him play a small 3 or 5 piece kit and see if he's as good as any of these others. somehow I doubt it.

  • @marty3699 its so annoying isnt it? whats he trying to make up for with the size of his drum kit i wonder ;)

  • @marty3699 If you doubt that then you should see more of his videos. He is my favorite drummer and one of the best technicians in the world besides being incredibly original. The reason he as such a big set its because the stuff he plays demands it. He sees his drum set like a piano with each tomtom a bit lower or higher than the following one.

  • Chester Thompson pwns!

  • bozio is sweet too

  • god this shit is so awesome

  • I love when drums are displayed in this fashion, making actual music, great job

  • Nice to see Ralph play. It is rare unless you at MI or he and Joe Po's school. man does he play well. Great educator too.

  • These fellers are just having way too much fun!!!

  • Ralph Humphrey: smallest kit, biggest talent. Take note, drummers. Meanwhile, Bozzio looks like an asshole with his ostentatious set up.

  • @Jasontis That's because he is an asshole.

  • @Jasontis With that monstrosity of kit, you would think he would be able to play them well. But you know how when you pull up to a stoplight, and a guy in either a ridiculously lifted Chevy pickup, or a Porsche convertible pulls up next to you, your first instinct is to think, "man, he's gotta be trying to make up for a lack of something else. He must have a small weiner..." I think that rule applies here as well, no? Because I certainly wasn't impressed by his performance. Or his Porsche.

  • Must have taken days to set up those kits :D

  • Except for Ralph, a drum roadie´s nightmare.

  • i think frank would have dug this.

  • awww come on these drummers are great (with the exception of bozzio i think hes overrated) but you gotta have vinnie colaiuta...hes the best zappa drummer period

  • c vraiment un beau bordel .....

  • fucking amaizing just fucking amaizing ,i dont know how fenomenaly good i can describe you as!!!!!!

  • I love Chester....so much class...

  • Ralph Humphries KILLS!!!

  • i love Terry because he has a huge drumset but he dosent abuse it like any other metal head. He really uses each piece when necessary for groove and his personal style. One Man Orchestra

  • Ralph Humphrey!!!Yeah!!!

  • i didn't know eli manning can play the drums...hahahaha

  • I hate DW, awful.

  • Thank You Mr. DrumChannelOfficial for all the cool videos of my mentors...Keep on Rockin' in the Free World

  • I saw this, and went over to Drum Channel to check the entire jam out - it's definitely worth it. This is just a taste of some spectacular musicianship.

  • falta vinnie colaiuta recuerden la historia

  • No Morgan Agren?

  • This is amazing!!!!!!!!

  • WTF. no Vinnie Colaiuta? He's one of the better (if not the best) drummers of Zappa. Actually, he's porbably one of the best drummers around now. He's probably doing more important things. I don't blame him

  • Yes, Vinnie had a scheduling conflict with this shoot but we would have loved to have him participate. ~DC

  • @tcslick420 Oh, I hear you! I guess they reckoned that you couldn't include everyone ...

  • @tcslick420 Neil Peart is better!

  • @seganerd89 I have a lot of respect for Neil as a drummer and his skill as a songwriter is AMAZING but I do think Neil is over rated because if you take him out of his element via Rush....he just doesn't feel good when he grooves.

Vinnie on the other hand has played A LOT of genres of music and to my ears Vinnie is more tasteful and his feel and technique is sooo much better than Neil especially when it comes to playing more than one genre of music.

  • @tcslick420 Vinnie was excellent you had to be to play for Frank. But in my oppinion Mr. Peart is maybe the best. Great all around drummer and very excelent lyric writter.

  • @tcslick420 Touring with Jeff Beck at the time.Yea,that's more important.

  • @ESmithStringSlinger jeff beck's awesome though!

  • you can easily hear the sound of DW's is far better from the others, great vid 5 stars...

  • I would choose Yamaha over DW anytime

  • @PingaloBill dw is top, very top. then mapex :)

  • @PingaloBill I would simply choose well tuned drums over poorly tuned ones......no matter the brand.

  • @PingaloBill

As would I my friend...especially the PHX *phoenix* model they just came out with. I purchased a Power V Special kit back in '92' and they were made in England...back when Yamaha owned Premier. I still play that kit 135 gigs a year and I love em~

  • GREAT VIDEO....three of my favorite drummers, I was not familiar with Ralph Humphrey, but he is great.

Chad seems like a nice guy, he is always smiling and watching the other drummers. Of course he is a fantastic drummer. Chester with Genesis and Phil I have seen a few times in the 80's, brilliant. Terry I have followed for decades.

I am glad to see Ralph hand Chester play with their eyes closed some times. I do that.

  • Ralphs yams sound killer

  • i understand that crum channel was started by dw but why do almost all of the guest have to be endorsed by them!?

  • @Branman1994 - Hi, to clarify, Drum Channel was started by Don Lombardi, one of the founders of DW Drums, but it is, was, and always will be a separate company. We try to present drummers that endorse every drum company, it is just happenstance that many of the drummers on Drum Channel play DW. It is in part because many of the top drummers in the industry play DW and we want these guys on Drum Channel. Thanks!

  • r u a drum channel fan or do u work for drum channel

  • I work for Drum Channel :)

  • @Branman1994 screw DW. I love their drums but I prefer high end Mapex kits. Both great drum company's but preference is everything in drumming =]

  • @Branman1994 I think they do a great job representing the different brands - as an example everytime Ralph is on camera there is the Yamaha Logo, they also have the Chad Smith show - And Chad is a foundation Pearl Guy.

Keep up the good work Drum Channel

  • @Branman1994 Just a point of fact, Ralph is playing a Yamaha set in this video.

  • @Branman1994 crum channel....hehe

  • Chad is easily the best of the four.

  • Chester Thompsons Drumming on One Size Fits all and Roxy and Elsewhere was ahead of its Time amazing

And the Drumming of Chad Wakerman on Them or Us and Does Humor Belong to Music makes him my Favorite Zappa Drummer

It was amazing how he could improvise over Zappas Guitar Solos ( Thats why Zappa liked him )

  • thses guys are bad ass...i love all kinds of drumming and im a drummer...to learn all that and more would be an honor...

  • @amazingdrummer95

Mighty words for a 14 year old.

This guy was a drummer legend with stuff that would make even your ignorant jaws drop today when he was just a few years older than you are now.

Little advice, little boy- it is never a bad choice to make some investigations about the person you are making comments about beforehand.

    M2Cnts.

  • Incomplete without Vinne......................

  • @jsbruzina

    Incomplete without Aynsley Dunbar!!!!

  • Old men shedding

  • WHERE IS HAN BENNINK ?

  • where is phil collins? :(

  • i love drums

  • You could probably feed half of all the orphans in the world with the same amount of money as it took to create Terry Bozzio's ridiculous drum kit. Chad's kit is about the limit, anything beyond that is just stupid.

  • they need aynsley dunbar and vinnie colaiuta.

  • @Revmd

    Don't forget Jimmy Carl Black!

  • What? No Vinnie C?

  • Okay new YouTube rule: if you're going to post a negative comment, you must list your credentials and you must be as accomplished as the person you are dissing. This anonymous format seems to bring out the expert in idiots that would piss themselves if they got called out in public. Bozzio takes a simple phrase, permutates the heck out of it, and builds a musical solo on just three drums. If he were talking he'd have said 'yeah I don't NEED all these drums, but life's short and it's fun.'

  • me as a shortage of such music for the opera and theater, thanks

  • Bozzio might be a verry talented drummer...but his solos suck!!

  • Bozzio is very much like Picasso...abstract and to appreciate Bozzio you need a certain amount of musical maturity, and an open mind.

  • can't believe anyone is dissing bozzio. you guys are insane. he's been playing an extremely long time. can do whatever he wants, and like any musician, he chooses....like wackerman, to be more musical and melodic with his drumming. he's a legend....bottom line. listen to more of his stuff....you'll see....

  • polyrhythms7: Exactly man! I mean, what's the big deal with: "He doesn't even use that big kit. He should start with a smaller one." I mean.... WHAT? It's just an instrument. He designed his instrument and he plays it. Why is it that people delude themselves that big kit is some kind of prestige?

Terry explained many times that his kit is like this because he tunes his drums in chromatic tonality. It's like a piano - should a piano player start with 3 notes piano and slowly build up? Come on.

  • personally i love bozziop but i noticed "polyrhythms7' means you'd love him, other people think ringo is the king...

  • this drumming lacks soul

  • @reese1990drm1 word

  • i hated the 3rd guy

  • @DRxSTALLIONxJIMMY yeah, i agree. Bozzio is the worst thing that's happened to drums in a long time

  • why? please tell me, i don't know so much about drumming but can also play a little bit.

  • You have no idea wtf you are talking about. I see your username is amazingdrummer95...post some of your pathetic amateur drumming and let's compare. You're a f'ing pussy.

  • 3:21 WTF, WAS RALPH IN THE BATHROOM?

  • @cromagmax

Nah bro, he was playing Bozzio's gong.

  • Bozzio is such a fucking worthless hack. Pathetic. What a waste of perfectly good drums, if 5 kits' worth of them.

  • he has a great feel in music. ive never seen such a perfect drummer.

  • yessir, perfect explanation

  • Ralph is fantastic

  • @rrdrums110

No it was not... it was actually smart music... Try playing King Kong in front of a mirror dude and and I'll show you stupid...

  • hate terry bozzio's tunning..

  • Very cool

  • awesome!

  • i don't know if it bozzios enormous kit, or the fact in his solo he uses like 2-3 drums and its sounds SICK

  • @pakleglia ouch.. show bonham some love man, but without bonham there would be less drummers like these

  • We just be happy terry has done the solo drum thing. Now the doors are open for anything!!!!!!! But all these cats are Great.

  • Frank Zappa was just weird.. That's all. His music was so stupid.

  • fuck u buddy

  • i bet you believe in terrorists, too.

  • It's because you didn't take the time to UNDERSTAND it!

  • nice

  • I think Chad Wackerman it my favorite of all these....Bozzio is boring as crap.

  • I know Bozzio's supposed to be this great technical drummer and "musical drummer" pioneer, but he really just bores the shit out of me. Everyone else here is just fantastic.

  • So true, just because someone has the technical ability to play music doesn't mean they can improvise well. People forget that for some reason.

  • totally agree bozzio can be quite boring at times. i guess i need to just take a sit and listen, try to understand what he is ding, because it is so dry to me right now.

  • too boring for me
