I've always liked Coldplay. I pretty much only follow individual artists (all hip-hop) closely, I don't have the attention span to... spread my attention so thin so to speak.

But ever since I heard "Trouble" as a kid I liked them, need to give all their albums a proper listen. I gave Viva La Vida a mull over when it came out, pretty awesome.

What's great is their evolution also. They really make an effort to drastically shift gears. I mean look at them now, "Viva La Vida" (song) = Wow.

all music [and certainly pop music] is derivative. it reacts and evolves to previous movements/times/etc. i never got the impression that CP were particularly any more derivative than other rock bands past or present. i do feel that they have a unique presence and voice and emotion. criticize them for being 'safe' or praise them for being true to themselves/reliable, it all depends on your POV. i for one think they're an excellent group and deserve all their success.
