  • Those overplayed spasm make it painful to watch the video.

And it feels like he hates the whole piece and the composer or something.

  • This wasn't a nice interpretation. Doesn't mean LAN langs bad or anything

  • medic...check his neck

  • He must hate Liszt, that's why he has done it!

  • I think Lang Lang plays fast... It's that I think. This song is fast but also is slow in some parts.. is what I think.

  • Overall, I always enjoy Lang Langs performances, but is the body language all that necessary ? just a thought.... as far the interpretation, not a fan of the intro but then again, it's Lang Lang

  • OMG it is worse than Tom and Jerry played:)

  • Génial ! J'adore votre interprétation ! J'ai mal au coeur de voir autant de commentaires désobligeants. Ca sent la frustration. Je vous applaudis des deux mains et vous dis : bravo !

  • Lang Lang is a unique performance artist/musician. I would rather watch him over justin bieber on any day.

  • Seriously, I don't even want to continue listening to that.

  • Adam Gyorgy best interprets it. Go listen

  • holy crap,, i would have crap my pants, if had any crap, OMG,

  • lang , lang, what a marksman, wow,,,,,,,,, bang bang, total takeout,,,i love it, !!!

  • its more like comedy

  • Is he a pianist or a humorist ? O_o

  • So fast. I wonder what those fingers would feel like inside me.

  • @calitats321 sick.... just sick

  • @calitats321

    Awesome... just awesome. :D

  • Sometime I think Lang Lang should plays rock music tather than piano

  • People who make comments that simply state their opinion: I'm fine with that. I'm not going to challenge your opinion on whether or not Lang Lang has great musicality, et cetera, or whether someone else does it better or more emotionally.

Those who troll: Go practice the piano every day you're not traveling and performing it, the whole day. It's harder than pressing keys.

  • He's got exuberance so I give him the benefit of the doubt! XD Horowitz owns this, Volodos' is also very good. On the original 2nd rhapsody, best is Jung Lin's rendition, she's incredible :D

  • @sammarco02

My dear friend, I think Lang Lang has an INCREDIBLE fantasy wich is clearly audible in this performance.

  • He actually killed 742 people by playing such a song. so the person who died will haunt him. but they cant so they come to youtube and dislike this video.

  • ...this kind of a hybrid, Liszt-Horowitz is hard to kill, but Lang Lang manages to kill it nevertheless...in a way, maybe one should be impressed...but neither Liszt nor Horo would have been...

  • the video sound was not good

  • Why don't you Lang Lang critics go see him in person and then you will realize what a genius he is. There were NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE it!!! I was skeptical of him before I saw him in person. It felt like everyone in the audience were holding their breathe. I will remember that concert for the rest of my life!!!! He is one of the most renowned pianists in the world right now, even if a bunch of ppl on youtube dissaprove. (They're not the opinions that matter).

  • hahahahah you try to compare Rubinstein and his fine interpretations, to this???? Lang Lang is a real virtuoso, but sometimes (like this one) not have good taste and crushed the piano and the musical piece. listen Volodos for how this work should be interpreted.

  • The Joshua Bell of the piano! He is musically talented, but I find it hard to watch him play. Compare him to the genius of the piano Arthur Rubinstein.

  • 736 people HUNGARIAN for a knuckle sandwich.

  • Is he having a seizure?

  • Comment removed

  • so fucking bad !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thisssss is really played right!!! If someone doesn't understand that, he probably has no head!

  • Der einzige der es richtig spielt- dass es auch dem Publikum gefällt und nicht immer nur dem Künstler!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Tempo is way too fast. Sounds like crap.

  • WTF!

  • ?? did he eat a clown?

  • I love how Lang Lang can deceive millions and millions of deaf people in to believing he can actually play Liszt the way it suppose to be played. He's the master of practical jokes hahahaha!!!

  • @masterofsynapsis You have no idea about music.

  • @mrpolaroid123 what I was paying him a complement?

  • very musical.... nothing boring about it, LANG LANG IS A MASTER, so everyone be quiet and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lang Lang is one of the greatest musician that is around at this moment. So Incredible musical, he swings and sounds so extremely dynamic! He is more than just a boring classical musician that reads notes from a piece of paper. He has a hart and a soul and really knows and understands whats music is all about . He has swing, feel, emotion, dynamics, and has sex a' pile. He became famous because he is so much better and very different then all the other ones! Yeh....

  • @BossPerk Well said.

  • @BossPerk /wiith all these comments I wonder if anyone can play as well as him. .. This man is putting his heart and soul into this music. With the rap garbage, this is heaven. I hope there are more like him.

  • I can't take all this reactions serieus though. Lang Lang is one of the greatest musician that is around at this moment. So musical, he swings and sounds so extremely dynamic! He is more than a boring classical musician that reads notes from a piece of paper. He has a hart and a soul and realy knows and understand whats music is all about . He has swing, feel, emotion, dynamics, and he is very sex a' pile. He became famous because he is so much better and very different then all the other ones!

  • Simply horrendous! I would put in the same rank with Maksim's interpratation of the same work... It has some wonderful moments, surely, but I think this is an extremely shallow, showy & superficial account of this commonly misunderstood and/or abused work... Liszt was not only a super-virtuoso, but also an innovator, a progressive musical genius, a superb conoisser of the piano, who could a maelstrom of musical miracles every time he sat in his piano... Please, let's respect that fact...

  • @DeliusAlkan i can agree with you that this is a bit superficial and ostentatious. But isn't that what Liszt is all about? I mean, c'mon, guys, give Lang-Lang a break here. He's playing a Hungarian Rhapsody for crying out loud.

  • Lang Lang has technique. But that is all he has.

  • @jeffouNSHS He is a shameless freak, butchering and disgracing everything he can. He has no feel for classical music what so ever! I can not understand why some think so highly of him!

  • @robfuturemd @jeffouNSHS excuse me, it seems that you have misunderstood something. This is not classical music; in fact, this is music belonging to the romantic period. The two periods are extremely different and because you cannot tell the difference between Classical and Romantic music, you have absolutely no right to criticize Lang Lang.

  • @jeffouNSHS Shameless freak, disgracing and butchering everything he can. He has no understating for classical music, what so ever! I can never understand why moron like this get so much publicity and attention!

  • @jeffouNSHS hahah i don't know if i can agree with that, buddy. He definitely has the charisma. watch the video again and try to see how much he gets into the music. especially around the coda, he goes nuts on the keys and shows it pretty well.

  • @sharpcheese19

my point exactly. He's nuts, not musical. And he shows that like no other.

  • My teacher, David Ehrman, graduate of Cinncinati Conservatory always taught me to keep my body still and that when movement of the head and body DISTRACT from the playing it is wrong! Lang Lang can keep his body still and people would then fall in love with his playing - otherwise, we are talking a major narcsasist here.

  • LISZT'S IMPOSSIBLE OCTAVES -- I posted a vodeo of some of the most famous pianists trying to play Liszt's octaves at the end of his version of this piece. The passage was simplified by Horowitz in his arrangement.

A Russian college student (talented virtuoso) left this comment, "I had five minutes laughing at the greatest virtuosi. Please crucify me. Seriously, many of the virtuosi released messy recirdings, and there is no shame to critize their manner."

  • SO HORRIBLE why so fast i understand it is a fast piece but it is being pushed too much emotion put into it.

  • There is no doubt he is an amazing pianist, but I did not care for his interpretation of this piece. Entirely too fast and at times so "smushed" together I was unable to hear the playful interactions that should have come through. Sorry. Will listen to more Lang Lang, though as this is my first exposure to him.

  • Though I believe that Lang Lang is now the best of the wold, I prefer maksim's way of playing Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #2

  • @Aquilesv Who? Maksim is pure gimmick, he can just barely play the Hungarian Rhapsody No.2. Have you heard George Li, he's 15 and he plays infinitely better than Maksim :-))

  • @Bret6464. George Li is going to be the number one in the the top of classical pianist in the world (at the same level of Evgeny Kissing, Lan Lang, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, better than Martha Argerich). Maksim is not a classical pianist, but I only said that I prefer Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody played by marksim). There is not conventional pianist like Marksim, like Viktoriya Yermolyeva that make his own original art with classical music.

  • @Bret6464 George Li is going to be the number one in the the top of classical pianist in the world (at the same level of Evgeny Kissing, Lan Lang, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, better than Martha Argerich). Maksim is not a classical pianist, but I only said that I prefer Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody played by Marksim. Some times I like no-conventional pianist like Marksim, like Viktoriya Yermolyeva that make his own original art with classical music.

  • @Aquilesv Martha Argerich and Jung Lin are the top pianists today, they are surreal musicians, not just their extraordinary technique. I have total passion for certain pianists: Rach, Gilels, Horowitz, Moiseiwitsch, Richter, Weissenberg, and now Martha and Jung. I do love George Li's HR2, his greatness is ahead of him. There are other young pianists that I also like. On Maksim I simply can not conceive of anything from him, particularly the HR2 as a serious or "acceptable" performance.

  • esto es mierda a comparacion de hamelin :P

  • Even if Lang Lang played like shit, Priest Liszt will forgive him.

  • isn't this the song that tom play in Tom and Jerry?

  • I agree this is not his best, we all have bad days.

  • Is it a farce? Listen to Cziffra and forget this shit

  • omg... he totally killed it...

he should be banned from playung the piano

  • @vdanee79 Sehe ich auch so !! Durch Effekthascherei wird diese tolle Stück total zerstört !! Grauenhaft !!!

  • qué cojones hace este hombre, alguien me lo puede explicar??

  • The Alfred Brendel interpretation makes this sound like a novice.

  • 0:03 lol, he jump!!!!!! Joke, he is really good

  • AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM in arts and sciences. Americans were not just the first to walk on the moon. American Richard Kastle was the first recording artist to play Liszt's alternating octaves at the end the way Liszt intended them to be played, and he did it with original style and extravagance.

The AMERICAN CD out sold the current RUSSIAN and CANADIAN pianists. Kastle also has the most press. CHINESE Lang Lang has great press and sales, but he plays the easier version. It doesn't count.

  • @6347285

hahaha you must be proud of your country. Guess you guys only copy from Europe. Seems to me very similar to China... anyway, the pianist isn`t that great. He looks and moves kinda absurd

  • @davidhabel91 AMERICAN Richard Kastle's CD was in the top 100 in USA retail stores. His post of this piece has a link to the sales charts that show that only the American pianist and The Three Tenors, Pavaroti, Cararras, Domingo, made recordings that were as popular as rock stars. Europe rules opera. USA rules piano!

  • @6347285

Who cares about this "who rules" stuff? I`m not looking on charts or something, I`m looking for the composers. You got great composers over there, no question about it, but the roots are here in Europe. It`s like philosophy. We could listen to the guys on TV or better get back to the roots such as Marc Aurel, Platon,Cicero and so on. Know what I mean? I don`t care which country`s better ;-)

  • @davidhabel91 The roots of dishonesty and bigotry are in Europe. All of the European recording acts that preceeded the American were trying to scam the USA with their fake versions of the alternating octaves at the end of this piece. Kastle's website explains how the European bigots rig the recording industry against Americans. It's a must read.

  • OK

Michael the GREEK modern classical music composer

I wander how you will perform PIANO SONATA

  • he feels the song..he`s AWESOME...He is the master of masters

  • chuck norris teachs him!!!... wooot... roundhouskick with his bare hands... this is shaolin kung fu.... whhhoooooot, he´s awesome..

  • if you don't like lang lang then why are you on here?!

    love you lang lang!

  • Sorry when I´m hurting some guys of you, but I absolutely don´t like his style. Ok, he has a quite good technike, but he doesn´t know how to interpret such pieces. He doesn´t get ANY expression in it. To me this is just quite a bit of theatre.

  • @MrGriis1988 Agree. I don't mind theatre while playing, but here it is too redundant... He puts more energy into visual expression than into sound expression. Or if you find my opinion wrong, explain me the reason of these "electroshock" moves. He plays like under attacks by tazer, honestly...

  • Stormy, but not too much energy not enough wind.. But it not bad at all! Just little more Technic!

  • I think Lang Lang is a very good pianist, but i don't like him playing this work.

not too much energy, but energy 'at the wrong place'...

  • Yundi Li can learn this better than Lang Lang. :)

  • This is terrible. Did you even look at the sheet music? It's something like lento for tempo, the slowest possible next to largo. Please, get with it, marcato doesn't give you the freedom to change tempo. You're very expressive, but again, when you play a piece of music you play what is written. If you wanted to do something expressive or whatever this way, then rearrange it and put your name on it rather than look like an idiot.

  • @gezafabinyi They asked Hofmann once why he played so fast, he said because I couldn't play it faster :)

  • @gezafabinyi are you retarded? after a couple of pages it gets to vivace and then prestimissimo, anyways continuous 32nd notes in lento is still fast as hell

  • @yepwnz Where are these 32nds? Other than the scales and a few syncopated notes there really are none.

  • @gezafabinyi Do you even own the sheet music? 32nds are the notes with 3 bars.

  • @yepwnz no shit? what's up your ass, no need to be so snappy. All I'm saying is Lang Lang's playing of this piece completely destroys it. He's very talented, but not my style.

  • He plays well but too much emotion on his body ~~~That makes some confused to me

  • horror

  • horro...

  • Just slop sorry he might be good but he plays so sloppy

    sounds like crap

    Maksim is way better

  • @iceparker1 That's a joke about maksim, right? maksim's only good playing cubana cubana with bongos and all.

  • i think this is slop sorry he might be good but this just sounds lilke slop

  • Mi sembra non abbia per niente musicalità, sembra che non si renda conto di cosa sta suonando.

  • @superburp idem!! Hamelin è molto più bravo xD

  • @LadyElisabethx No, Hamelin's is horrible mechanical piano xD

  • Holy shit that was fast...

  • Good grief - this is just awful - and no I couldn't play it better, but then I am not marketed as a 'great pianist either' when the truth is Lang Lang should become a clown.

  • The Cat Concerto

  • Why not post a video of yourselves playing this piece and show Lang how it's done?

  • he is having a stroke!

  • Beautiful music.. I'm providing live onine piano lessons via Skype. Subscribe to my channel and learn to play your favourite songs in only 30 minutes!

  • That rumbling noise you hear coming from the direction of Milan is Horowitz spinning in his grave. I'm used to seeing Lang make a musical ass of himself with the mugging and the clowning but this is the worst. With what's coming out on the keyboard, I'm surprised he's not facing in the other direction.

  • wouldnt be surprised if he was fucking a gnome under the piano

  • terrific, a massacre, but we must have in mind he is chinese and far from the west. He is a great pianist but why to kill Liszt that way? Sure, he didnt understand this piece.....

  • @profdezik racist is racist and troll is troll!

  • OMG, what a massacre...

  • AMERICAN Richard Kastle proved that American superiority reigns n classical music as well as the usual stuff, keeping the world safe from terrorists. His CD out sold the current RUSSIAN and CANADIAN acts. CHINESE Lang has great press and sales, but he plays the easier version. It doesn't count.

FACT: The USA produced the first recording artist in hiSstory who could play Liszt's octave ending without diluting the technique, and he plays the Friska with style and extravagance.

    GO TEAM USA!

  • It was terrible interpretation, it is very agresive. He forget the sweet of this piece.

Its very overact. He is trying to impress. Estupid. Why the chinese people overact.?

  • @claunes er u kno...not all of us do that :P i am chinese and i play piano and i DON'T play like that... >.>

    P.S.: i hav about 11 years of experience :3

  • @claunes They don't all overreact! Li Yundi has terrific musicality!

  • It was terrible interpretation, it is very agresive. He forget the sweet of this piece.

Its very overact. He is trying to impress. Estupid.

  • is that really a right thing to do reactions like that???? weird

  • Take some tranqs, dude

  • unfourtunatly, he does not get the full development of the piece, but stresses only single passages, never longer than 2 bars... :(

He is a horrible interpret and has only skills in technique.

Every German Music Academy has better students...

  • @DmCeciNeji Racist troll is racist, and a troll.

  • A technical monkey knowing absolutely nothing about music.

  • lol what a bitch

  • un peu ... prétentieux ..

ou quand liszt devient un numéro de cirque

  • Comment removed

  • I dont think the camera is doing the piano playing any justice but it did seem sloppy

  • can't u guys see?! it's his way of expressing PASSION!!! just get on with it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rubbish as is all Lang Lang interpretations of everything from Hungarian Rupsody to Happy Birthday and the Blue Bells of Scotland one would presume.

  • this is not bad, people. its just his own take on it. change is the only constant

  • TTTOOOO FAASTT

  • impressionistic, wild and gipsy

    magnificent!!!!!

  • simply orrible ....

  • @guldalex Horrible is the way you write as well as this interpretation...

  • @osmoon It was very late and I added a 'H' , so "Orrible!" are you happy now?! Fuck you teacher.

  • @guldalex I'm happy now. Thanks :D

  • It all comes down to who you like, everyone has different preference. Nothing in the sheet music about playing the first part "nice and slow and legato" that's for nocturnes xD All great pianists play the Liszt Rhapsody 2 with passion and fast, check them out, Brendel, Cziffra, Horowitz, Rach, Hamelin, Lang Lang and Jung Lin. It's supposed to be played fast and if you have the skill then you play it fast xD Jung Lin's version is magnificent, in my opinion the best one :D

  • in my opinion, this is the worst interpretation of such a masterminded piece. junglin isnt too bad, but i think maksim plays it the best. lang lang just plays it to fast, the beginning is supposed to be nice and slow and legato and beautiful sounding. great that you can play fast, but thats not how its supposed to be played. maksim still plays it the best though xD

  • No words to describe such atrocity....

  • It's funny how people criticize a YT video clip (recorded off a cell phone no less) as a "bad interpretation". You want to hear his "good" interpretation, listen to his CD version-which is over 9 minutes long. He understands the difference between recording and live performances. And all his live performances are different (just look at the ones on YT alone). He performs up to 150 concerts a year. Does he play the pieces too fast sometimes? of course. Why? because he can.

  • Who brought along Jekyl & Hyde to perform? Sorry, rofl.

  • Comment removed

  • @89hedgehog name calling again? now I'm just slamming you, you big baby!

  • The acustics are terrible...and the musician knowing of that situation decides to play loud as hell (sign of bad taste) makes that marvelous piece of music a plain ordinary piece of trash.....

  • he's wonderful as a personality, but sucks as a musician...

  • @jeffouNSHS He's a great musician playing it the way he wants, can't argue with that XD Jung Lin's is the one, she's a goddess on piano :D

  • @03mbk30 jung lin is the master

    you are so right

  • @marley86442 Tks. Did you see that the same comment you made on maksim's video got deleted. The channel, the guy mattyb2001uk, who has all the maksim videos, censures the good comments about Jung Lin. He's a little nazi bitch and should be banned from youtube XD

  • @marley86442 i think cziffra is best at this piece

    and many other pieces...

  • Lang Lang is a musical butcher!!

  • appalling

  • Sloppy and Brash. Too much pedal. And the melody never comes through. Thoroughly disappointing in total.

  • omg, I hate C.... X(

  • Wow, what an INCREDIBLE performance. What a rock star! Exactly how I can imagine Lizst would perform it.

  • His intepetation managed to impress half ratings. 1/5 said it was emotionally empty and too fast. 3/5 was manipulated by those people.

  • omg what was that, too fast, adam gyorgy does way better

  • It's a shame that Lang Lang never learned how to focus his talent. He's obviously got the ability, but he's still stuck on "speed = virtuosity". I learned that's not the case in my sophomore year of high school band. Thanks, Mr. Hagood.

  • all this bouncing is distracting me, and even if I close my eyes, I'm still not buying it

  • No ... quì nn ci siamo .

a parer mio questa interpretazione manca di un respiro musicale essenziale ...

tutto è fagocitato da una tecnica impressionante ma veramente ridondante ...

ricordiamoci pianisti che siamo al servizio della musica , nn siamo i suoi monarchi !

  • what a clown!!! thats lang lang!! a fkn clown

  • Pickup is terrible - but what comes through is a brilliant technique without the

slightest musical thought , a circus gone

    off the tracks .

  • Nul!!!!!

  • when you are listening to somebody performed, completely, attentively, then you are listening not only to the music, but also to the feeling of what is being conveyed, to the whole of it, not part of it.

Lang langs performances are of great influence; one of kind so beautiful.

  • excellLence!! my hero! Liszt live on...

  • this pure emotion, just like i like to pound the piano, and make it sing to all human creativity thats in us all

  • Brilliant, our family loves Lang Lang. He is truly an incredible pianist.Seeing him live was one of the best musical experiences in the past 30 years. He is magic on the piano.BRAVO!!!!

  • a composer , composes music, its down to the musician to enterpet it,

so anyone who playes it , should play it as they feel it inspires them to.

i would play it as lang lang does , it brings out so much emotion and pure energy

that it explodes the myth that music composition should be followed to the dot.

lets play compositions like they were meaning to be played.

i was taught piano for 9 years, and if i varied from the printed version , in exams i lost points,

    just like it should be

  • every composer , composes music, but whoever playes it should play it as it inspires them to .

i would do the same in playing it and hammer the piano to bits , it just bursts with exitement what a fantastic piece

  • To those whining about how he "destroyed" or "butchered" the piece, welcome to the real world, where musicians play however the eff they please. Don't like? Then leave.
