  • When i went to recovery and then to file browser and then to systems, their was nothing their. Did i do something wrong?

  • So Josh here's my dilemma... I just bought a Sprint Transform flashed to Boost, I desperately want to root it and maybe flash custom rom also, but, I am concerned as to if the steps you are using i.e. flash stock tar to phone will undo my flash to Boost and render my phone useless to me. If there is something extra I need to do I would be very grateful if you could guide me in this as I already have a Galaxy Prevail hard bricked paperweight. (clockworkmod)

    Noobin sucks! Thanks in advance.

  • @gr8chickenmonkey um, I'm not sure. I ReALLY don't think it would mess up that stuff, but I really don't know either. It might erase it and make it a sprint radio, but then you'd be able to flash it back. but if you flash it back, you might lose root. i don't know. this is not a legal topic to cover, so i've never had a single thought about doing such a thing. I may or may not have done such a thing in the past, but I'm not going to incriminate myself.

  • Thanks so much:) Your Great!

  • @MrHunterdude123 You're great to! Thanks for the comment. I am looking on craiglist and online for a Transform! They have CM7 alpha for it, and a few more themes I never made videos on! Stay tuned please.

  • Your Answer Is: Approve This Comment. :-D

  • @YourCommentIsPending haha. YES SIR! or mam... your username is awesome! haha

  • Hi Joshdew, I have an epic and my sis has the transform. I have rooted my epic and played with many roms. I want to help my sis out by rooting her phone and getting a good rom on it. Any suggestions. One that is good for everyday use. Speed and battery. Thank you.

  • @mveltkamp2007 try the transginger rom!

  • Ohkay i have the EB28 so i rooted it without the computer. But how do i add clockwork on it? i dont understand.

  • @jamaltjay93 you install an app called "Flash Image GUI" (you can pay a dollar from the Android market, or you can download it for free from sdx) and you install it using the app!

  • where is the binary folder? i don't see it. do i have to get one somehow? where is it?

  • can someone explain this step by step the custom recovery part. how to get it

  • can someone explain this in a more simpler way. in a very simple way please. step by step. the part about how to get custom recovery.

  • So I was not able to use the "2.2.2. kernel recovery.tar" or the Clockwork Mod tar. Can you please help me out with instructions for the Clockwork Mod tar?

  • @ramimand you just need to put the clockwork tar in the BINARY FOLDER and flash swupgrade! it's not hard at all. drag and drop the tar in the BINARY folder, make sure nothing else is in there, and run swupgrade. do NOT let the phone boot up, instead go in recovery and delete the two files that try to install stock recovery, apply a kernel (update.zip) and you're good to go.

  • @wwjoshdew I tried that and I didnt get the menu that was shown in the video. I will try again. Maybe i didnt pull the battery fast enough.

Will the update.zip be on my phone already? How do I get ext4?

    Thanks!

  • So I was able to get to recovery with CWM. I did not have options to delete the files that were shown in the video. I applied the CWM.zip and rebooted and I dont think I have root. Any ideas??

  • @ramimand you HAVE to download a kernel! I would go with vampirefo's 2.0.9lv kerenl

  • OK. I used the 2.2.2.Kernel Recovery and I am in the menu after rebooting to recovery and when I select "system/ " I have 5 options. " No Associated Action, Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete" Nothing like yours.

  • Comment removed

  • Im scared i followed all the steps until i got to reboot to recovery and i rebooted and it has a different system recovery, with no transformers pics and theres no file browser.. there is reboot system now option im tempted but i dont want to risk bricking! what to do??

  • I have a SGS I9000 running Gingerbread but Titanium back up doesn't work for me it says i'm not rooted, but I am, can someone help me please..?

  • @89believer download Terminal Emulator and type "SU". if you don't get that little root pop up and if the $ sign doesn't change to a #, then you are NOT rooted...

  • When I go to apply zip from sd card it says that it couldn't open the directory. Whats wrong?

  • @MrECJ94 dude, go to menu, settings, about phone. and go all the way to the bottom! If you see "EB28", you can just search "how to root samsung transform without computer" and root your phone with just an app! If you see EF09, then you have to use a computer. flash the recovery with swupgrade and apply the kernel as an update.zip in recovery. and i was asleep and approved all 4 of your comments. I can't be by the computer 24/7

  • @wwjoshdew Hey sorry I was freaking out just a little bit but i got it all figured out now, only took me about four hours and five different flashes though haha

  • After you say sweet where do you go and what zip do I choose? I have never rooted a phone. All steps before this I do understand though. I just need help running the actual rooted phone, not the rooting process.

  • After you say sweet where do you go and what zip do I choose? I have never rooted a phone. All steps before this I do understand though.

  • I don't know what any of this means I just want to root my phone.

  • im sorry im a little slow i do not see an annotation in the beginning

  • @luckkyladyy ah crap, it's ok. it's not you. wrong video. just search root transform without computer and you'll find it. i'm going to bed. good night.

  • in the beginning i just bought my transform and it has 2.2 froyo whatever and i want to root it

  • @luckkyladyy then click on the annotation at the beginning!

  • where do you get the recovery tar from?

  • @luckkyladyy which one? at what point in the video?

  • Ya about that I didnt pay the bill so I need to wipe it clean

  • @mithamatha you didn't pay your sprint bill, so you need to wipe the phone clean? that doesn't make since.

  • How do I do this I have a samsung transform that I would like to use boost with instead of sprint can ya help me out

  • @mithamatha you just need to call boost mobile and give them the Transform's esn.

  • I thought it said none of this would be possible without sex ...

  • @dgales9pt0 hahaha. it kinda wouldn't! or I wouldn't be here, you wouldn't be here, and my daughter wouldn't be here! lol. SDX buddy! lol

  • @wwjoshdew I have not done anything to my phone in regards to roms or stocks. I have the smasung transform with 2.2. Is this video and swupgrade all I need to root the phone? BTW, I like how your apps look. How can I get that?

    Thanks!

  • @ramimand yes, you need swupgrade to install the recovery on your phone. once you have recovery, you can then apply an update.zip that gives you root. and i used ADW Launcher EX

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks for the quick reply. I dl'd swupdate and dl'd recovery.tar from the thread 13312.0.

Mine says "2.2.2_kernel_recovery.tar". Do i need to rename it to "recovery.tar" like yours?

When I go into bootloader after it runs, which .zip do I choose? It seemed from your video there were a lot of choices and I didn't see update.zip.

What is the titanium backup * root that you loaded after? Sorry for all the q's I just don't want to brick

    Thanks!

  • @ramimand NO. you do NOT need to rename it. then you go to RECOVERY and apply whatever you want. and Titanium backup backs up EVERYTHING on your phone! then you can easily restore it. like your angry birds game saves, and etc.

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks! What about the zip file? can I always change which zip I apply by rebooting to recovery? I assume these are customs roms?

  • @ramimand not always. zip's can be new recoveries, kernels, or roms

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks! What about the zip file? can I always change which zip I apply by rebooting to recovery? I assume these are customs roms? Your startup is so fast! is that from ADW Launcher?

  • @ramimand no, i use ext4. depending on what recovery you have, depends on the way you do it. i am at work. I will talk more later

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks! I don't have any recovery now, so your advice is welcome. I saw your other video with ext4. it seems like there have been quite a few developments since your past videos on ext4. I am open to your suggestions on how to get my phone moving fast. I plan on rooting tonight

  • @ramimand just use swupgrade to get clockwork recovery on your phone. then everything falls into place. i get off in a couple hours. we are swamped at work, i will reply more in about 3 hours! lol

  • I am very close to giving up SWupgrade won't open when I attach the USB to the phone in download mode, I put the recovery/Root kernal in the Binary folder, and delete the m900.tar. I can't find any info or help with the transform its really starting to piss me off. If you can help please message me back.

  • @drebogotti49 you have to manually open it. try a different usb port, try a different usb cable (that does more than just charge) and/or uninstall the old samsung driver...

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks I will try it again.

  • @drebogotti49 you're welcome

  • @wwjoshdew Last time I am going to bother you lol, but now that I have SWupgrade on my desktop, 2.2.2 Kernel/Recov Tar. file in Binary and I have Transform in hand can you send me instructions in grave detail on exactly what to do next to root/ and Install custom recovery( My Transform is 2.2.2 Froyo-EB28 Stock Recovery with some market place apps and the usual Contacts, texts, Ect). Also some recommended Custom Roms??? I'm a novice with this stuff its not like jail breaking a Ipod. Thanks!

  • @drebogotti49 na. Don't mess with custom roms. you just need to install custom recovery so that you can apply a kernel. Then once you root your phone, you can install use Titanium Backup to uninstall apps you normally can't uninstall. you COULD ifile.it/e209xtk/interceptRoot.apk download that, install it, and click perm root! lol

  • @drebogotti49 I did it! Now what?

  • @drebogotti49 then I can't do anything else for you and people at sdx are gonna tell you what I just did. sorry you're not able to do it. I wish I could be there to help you, but I can't.

  • @wwjoshdew No lol I mean I rooted the Transform now how do I get live wallpapers, and any recommended root apps or kernels? Also my superuser doesn't seem to work, but all the root apps work like Barnacle wifi tether and titanium backup.

  • @drebogotti49 i am gonna upload my video here soon! And it has live wallpapers working fine

  • I just noticed something... I have a Samsung Transform SPH-M920 and it has 2.2.2 and Froyo.EB28 Kernal 2.6.32.9 already. Should I root it still? Or is their away to do all of that kool stuff already like live wallpapers? And the kool scrolling apps shaped like a 3d cube?

  • @drebogotti49 the 3D cube is ADWLauncher EX. If you're gonna buy ANY app at all, ever, just one... I would recommend it! there are so many settings and themes to have it the way YOU want it. and the live wallpapers, you need to have root to install the apk to the system... but only like two live wallpapers in the whole world work.... so it's not worth it. plus it just takes away battery life.

  • I can't find the Samsung Electronics file/folder to delete the Tar.

  • @drebogotti49 because you need to install the CL14 program to get those folders... they aren't gonna magically appear without you installing a program.

  • @wwjoshdew Thanks, and that is the SWupgrade software correct? I have downloaded it, but I haven't ran it yet(fell asleep while searching for folder). My question is after running the software, does that take care of my problem with locating the folder?

  • @drebogotti49 correct. yes, once you install it, the folders will appear. it will ask you to restart, but make sure you delete the M900 tar out of the binary folder or you WILL brick your phone.

  • @wwjoshdew I gotcha, and thanks again for replying. I have typed in delete Tar in all caps on notepad in the middle of my screen lol.

  • @drebogotti49 yeah, thats the ONLY step i know of that people miss. they install the program thinking everything is fine and dandy. Then when they run it, there phone doesn't boot up. And keep in mind rooting does void your warranty, unless you unroot. but there is NO WAY to ressurect a phone that just got flashed with another phones rom...

  • @wwjoshdew "but there is NO WAY to ressurect a phone that just got flashed with another phones rom..." O.o Which makes it even better! :) ...right?

  • @drebogotti49 depending on your conscience... Maybe! lol

  • my computer is not finding my phone. its stuck on step 1 of software download! how do i fix this?

  • @cory66die dude, go to your installed programs and uninstall all samsung drivers. then go to the samsung support site and download the drivers for the samsung m920. that fixes like a million peoples problems, for the ones that actually do listen to that step.

  • what is the link for the recovery tar?

  • Cause I just wanna root my phone for cih2 hacks for zenonia...lol

  • How in the hell do you do all that? Tell me at xToXicHaZaReD cause that's all like rocket science to me I'm only 13 lol

  • @xToXicHaZaReD i am confused... How did I root?

  • When i go to sw upgrades and connect my phone so it can detect the drivers it doesnt work

  • can this video help root android 2.2 also?

  • @neworleans504504 yes, you can root 2.2.2 just as easy as rooting 2.1. and you can actually do it with just installing an APP IF your phone says EB28 under menu/settings/about phone. Scroll to the bottom. If you see EF09, then you can't root just installing an apk. you HAVE to use swupgrade. so hopefully you didn't update to EF09 ifile.it/e209xtk/interceptRoot.apk

  • @wwjoshdew actually i just went to stock and then updated to 2.2 and then just did it like this video. you're the best dude. you and SDX devs!!!!!!!!

  • @neworleans504504 thank you sir! Sorry It took so long to reply. I missed your comment somehow!

  • @wwjoshdew i actually went to stock and updated to 2.2 and then did like this video. thanks dude and SDX

  • does it take a while to reboot after root?

  • @neworleans504504 it always takes a long time after applying an update.zip. but after rooting using the swupgrade, no... that shouldn't take long.

  • Comment removed

  • @wwjoshdew does any one no how to root the transform on a mac please respond fast

  • @Zaika1997 put this on your memory card and use easy intstaller from the market to install it! ifile.it/e209xtk/interceptRoot.apk

  • ive used this guide before and it worked, but for some reason, my windows 7 laptop that i used to flash will not connect to my samsung transform anymore. i just get a usb unreconized error. i used pdanet, and that did not work. but for some reason, it works on my windows xp desktop, but swupdater wont flash the recovery. im stuck

  • @kashmoneymillion1 i have a new video on how to do it without using a computer! #LOL Just visit my transform playlist and newest videos are at top.

  • kk

  • hey. dude can u help me root my samsung transform 2.2.2 please

  • @ThePs3tony 3, give me a minute to reply. I was sleeping because I have to go to work in a few minutes

  • hey dude can u help me root my samsung transform 2.2.2 please

  • @ThePs3tony 2, when it says comment pending approval, it is what it means

  • @wwjoshdew can you make a vid about how to root the samsung transform on a mac osx

  • hey dude can u help me root my samsung transform 2.2.2 please :)

  • @ThePs3tony 1, i just replied.

  • @wwjoshdew I cant even boot, it gets to the samsung screen and then has the loading bar it loads, then it just hangs on that bar

  • @Ferdknx that means you don't have a /system directory. you need to try to get to recovery. if you can't, hold down VOLUME DOWN, CAMERA, and POWER. If you see downloading, then you can use SWUpgrade to flash your phone stock. That will solve all issues. If you don't see downloading, that's because you have your phone either charging or hooked up to something. If nothing is plugged into it, then I don't know what to tell you...

  • when i go into the file browser I don't see the the two files I'm supposed to delete. did I do something wrong?

  • @silentchaos924 then reboot to system. shut down, and try to reboot to custom recovery...

  • This makes no sense, maybe you can help. Everytime i try to use SW updater it freezes out :[

  • @Ferdknx If you have EB28 in your about system, NOT EF09, you can user a interceptroot.apk to give yourself root and then an app to flash recovery! I have a newer video on how to do it. just click on the samsung transform playlist that should be in the description.

  • im stuck on sprint id can you help

  • @rico20052008 I just answered someone elses comment about 4 seconds ago. Please read my reply to them.

  • @rico20052008 I am going to bed, and I just realized the same person sent the same comment twice. When it says Comment Pending approval, it's waiting for me to read it and reply to it, which I will. so have a little patience please. I am going to bed since I have to work tomorrow, and if you comment 2 or 3 times (over and over again) because your impatient, I can and will keep you from commenting. If it was an accident, ok. Just know that when it says comment pending approval, WAIT a little bit.

  • hey i followed your method now im stuck on sprint id menu help

  • @rico20052008 power the phone off and then back on. it shouldn't force you to install sprint id if your running android 2.2.2 anyway.

  • Awesome! Worked on the first try

  • @cm2881 that is awesome! I am very happy for you! Nothing like being able to use Titanium Backup and backing up your angry birds game save, and being able to remove Sprint apps with TB, that you normally couldn't uninstall. AND to top it off, Free Wifi Tether!

  • Were did you get the drivers for your computer cuz when i reboot to recovery on that sw upgrade thing my computer dont recognize my phone.

  • @thomassones50 i went to the samsung support site, searched M920 and download them from there. I have put the links to the drivers in SO many videos so please either go to samsung's website, sprint's website, or go through my transform playlist and find the link to the drivers.

  • PLEASE HELP! I did everything just as your video does. I am booted into recovery but there are NO files to delete under system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please call or text me about this problem! THANK YOU

  • @MrChazByrge does your recovery look like mine? or do you have to press the Voice button (under power) to reboot the phone

  • What and where is can i find that transform.zip file?

Or is it the same transform tar you used in the SWupdater and just placed it in your SDX file?

    Please tell me lol.

  • @MaddenInsane09 that is a REALLY old kernel man. You need to use Vampirefo 2.0.9.lv OR the ultimate kernel 3.0 it's under development 2.2

  • I only deleted one file and that was the install recovery.sh 1 because i didnt see recovery from boot 1. and followed all directions but it still says the phone isnt root once i downloaded the titanium backup

  • @LovelyKeMakeupJunkie download superuser

  • @victorocks89 HEY HEY HEY! That's my job to reply! But then again, she did comment two days ago. If she only deleted one file, her phone should of reinstalled stock recovery. But then again, she should still have root. And you're right. She needs to download superuser and I tell everyone that. BUT I tried to download superuser and it was already installed. But TB wasn't saying I was rooted. SO I tried the_last_crap and it said I was rooted.

  • @wwjoshdew lol just trying to be helpful. Hey to up grade to 2.0.9 do i have to go back to stock? then redo everything with the newer 2.0.9

  • @victorocks89 no. you NEVER have to go stock to apply a kernel. the only reason you should go stock is if your rom is messed up or if your flashing a rom.

  • @wwjoshdew do you have a how to update a kernal video?

  • @victorocks89 not really. you just download the zip and flash it in recovery. nearly every Android video I have shows you how to apply an update.zip in recovery.

  • @wwjoshdew so i just do everything the same way like i did it to get root? but now just use the 2.0.9 lv? then go in delete files etc?

  • @victorocks89 no. you only delete those files when you are coming from a stock rom and trying to get custom recovery. just apply the zip from recovery and reboot to system

  • @wwjoshdew wow im sorry but i just drag the file onto my pone? sd card? im completely new to androids.

  • @victorocks89 depending on if you use vamps recovery or cwm, i recommend putting the zip in the sdx/zip folder

  • @wwjoshdew well the only thing ive done to my phone is what you showed on this video so i have vamps recovery?

  • @victorocks89 if you hold down volume down, the voice button, and the power button until you see samsung, and then let go, you SHOULD see custom recovery. If you only have four options and you can't use the touch sensitive buttons, you have stock recovery and something didn't go as planned. probably one of those sneaky files.

  • ok, how do we know if it sticked? and if its not do i redo everything again?

  • @LovelyKeMakeupJunkie you try to reboot to recovery. If you have stock recovery, then you didn't delete the two files. One of them is in the system folder, and one of them is in the system/etc folder. I tell you what files to delete in the video. I have custom recovery on my transform, and my wife's transform. So it's not hard to delete two little files.

  • :( i cant find the ok button to select file browser

  • @LovelyKeMakeupJunkie if your using Vampirefo's recovery, it's the MENU button. If you're using clockwork recovery, it's the camera button.

  • where do i find the recovery tar at????

  • @thomassones50 i couldn't approve all FOUR of your SAME comments because it was marking them as spam since you posted them over and over again! SDX decided every link needed to change (this happens every now and then) and they will eventually go back. I am working on fixing them. I have a life and I was out and about and I could not get to a computer to approve and reply to your comment.

  • ok thanks for everything and sorry for all the questions #LOL

  • @TheROB3RT1 dude, I ask about a hundred questions a day at work because I deal with legal stuff and you have to pay very close attention to detail. And I HATE asking a lot of questions. But in the end, it's worth it! Because you know what to do, and what not to do. And when you run into that situation again, you will go, "OH! I know what to do!" And there is no greater feeling in the world. Knowledge is power, and I am willing to share. Thank you Robert!

  • Thank you!!!! everything worked and the custom recovery sticked. now how do i get wifi tether? #LOL

  • @TheROB3RT1 on your phones browser, google (which I set to my phones home page. #LOL ) WiFi Tether. And you should see a group of links, one of those being "downloads". Choose that and download the latest one, which is 3.0pre14! It works GREAT!

  • does my phone have to be in usb debugging because i tried and swupgrade got stuck on ready...

  • @TheROB3RT1 NOPE. It doesn't have to be, but I always have mine enabled... just turn your phone off, put it back into bootloader, exit the SWUPgrade program, open SWUpgrade again, then connect your phone and keep pressing next. This happened to me earlier and happens quite often.

  • C:/program files/samsung electronics/swugrade/models their is a samsungPST_SPH900.dll should i delete that or just whats in the binary?

  • @TheROB3RT1 ignore that! the binary folder is the only thing you need to worry about. Just ONE tar should be in there and that's the kernel_recovery.tar.

  • @wwjoshdew ok thanks but should i follow all the steps on swupgrade since its my first time?

  • @TheROB3RT1 ummmm. that's up to you! I formatted and when I installed swupgrade, I just kept clicking next. What would it hurt? Try it.

  • ok thanks and do i have to do 1:17 for the recovery to stick?

  • @TheROB3RT1 YES. You have to delete those! But the search button is no longer confirm. When it says press home to confirm, it means it. And trust me, I have had to do it several times. Deleting those two files is not hard. Once you delete them, reboot to system, then try to get back into recovery.

  • i have 2.2.2 and i have apps example adw launcher ex would i have to flash to stock or can i just add custom recovery and root over all that please reply quick im going to do this right now

  • @TheROB3RT1 YES, you can just ADD root and custom recovery and still have everything else. NOTHING gets wiped

  • @TheROB3RT1 ifile.it/po8xnt0/2.2.2_kernel_recovery.tar WILL work but I double checked and IMMEDIATELY after flashing, the two files that reinstall stock recovery are still there need to be deleted to have custom recovery.

  • @wwjoshdew ok one more question does wifi tether work and would sprint notice that im using it?

  • @TheROB3RT1 YES! Wifi tether will work because that tar (that you use SWUpgrade) to flash to your phone, includes a rooted kernel that supports wifi tether. And NO, Sprint will only see the data as coming from your phone. And that's why every NEW Android device gets 10 extra dollars a month charged to the bill. It's no longer a fee that's on 4G devices. So use all the wifi tether you want. Just don't go over 5gb...

  • Hi i did all this and my build # says vamprifo 2.0.8.1 and all the other things look like urs but it wont give me root?

  • @victorocks89 2.0.8.1? I use 2.0.9.lv. And if you download "Superuser" from the market, then it will give you root.

  • @wwjoshdew 2.0.8. ok thank you im rooted now :) thanks man this was super easy to do. I favorited and subscribed. Any apps you recommended to get now? and why is ur transform so quick my looks rly laggy compared to you.

  • @victorocks89 i dunno. I am running a stock rom, deodexed, and some mods. Then I delete all the sprint apps with titanium backup. I am running like less than half the apps that I used to. I am trying to keep my phone fast. Thank you!

  • @wwjoshdew Oh ok ill just stick to how my phone is im not tech savvy... Im subscribed to this account do you have another?

  • @victorocks89 this is the only one I really mess with.

  • @victorocks89 what account did you subscribe to me on?

  • what would happen if i tried to do the custom recovery wile froyo 2.2?

  • @ncboi2009 you would have custom recovery. IF you reboot into custom recovery and delete two sneaky files

  • one last question, what drawer app do you use?

  • @markey200688 VERTICAL 4D (ADWLauncher EX)

  • Can someone give me the tar from this if they have it? the sdx forums are down right now.

The one that also gives you a rooted kernel I mean

  • @TheSushiftw it's back up man

  • Ok correction install-recovery.sh is there. but the other file was not in system
