  • nice

  • Great job, looks and sounds great. I need to that to my (2) phase III P42. Hope you do a video on how to it.. Thanks for the update...

  • how long did it take you to install the QSI decoder in the Athearn P42? I have one and would like to know if it would take a short time to install one. thanks

  • you need to get some Amtrak coaches

  • real nice layout. Ck out mine steffens69.

  • very sweet, i got a via one.

  • Thats really cool! Im ordering an athearn amtrak p42 #67 sometime this weekend I think, and congrats on the layout it's very nice!

  • You should make the ditch lights the same color of the headlights to make them mach. It would look a lot better I think.

  • great work i might be getting on of these so its good to se it running

  • Awsome job on that loco

  • Very impressive indeed!!

  • Where did you get ahold of your P42 in the phase V scheme?

  • @bocefus1983 I have looked around and it is an Athearn Limited Run version of the model. There are some new ones coming out in October and they are sold through Walthers.

  • @MachRacer4 Thanks!

  • @bocefus1983 No problem. I myself am looking at one so once again, no problem.

  • hey :) i recently lost a p42 on ebay with dcc installed? so what would you sell yours for or say is good price, or where i can buy one please reply thanks

  • @trainmanross99 sorry but mine are not for sale.

  • Where did you get the sound file for the P42? Nice trains.

  • @amtrak44 QSI decoder. Tony's trains.

  • So, is QSI the best decoder that you would recomend for this type of locomotive?

  • @AmtrakCSXRailfan currently yes.

  • Nice loco man !!!

  • I do like the ditch lights on the amtrak

  • awsome

  • Whats the name of the train store you go to.I just need the information so I can see if they have any more of those amtrak p42......

    lthalastdon@yahoo.com

  • @lthalastdon "Ready to Roll"

  • i rlly like your engine. i watched all ur step by step on how to do the ditch lights and dcc. i have been looking for this engine everywhere and wanted to find it with sound and ditch lights and dcc. but it looks like i will have to do it myself. awesome engine and layout. i found it on athearn but i didnt see the one with a pic it must have been one with a no image

  • Could you do this to a N scae P42?

  • @InfinityWardIGNDail i do not know. it would be kind of tight.

  • whats the smallest curve the engine can take?

  • @solidshots23 I think it could negotiate an 18" radius.

  • @flymanjg does that include superliner cars?

  • Love the p42!!! Awesome job on that locomotive...Looks nice and clean too!! :D

  • needs a better horn on the p42

  • Great loco

  • i have # 55 as well i love it great job

  • you think you can adjust my trains? None of my trains start off on 1,2,3,4,5,6. Or can you recomend me a store that's good with Dcc?

  • nice engine!! You should make a video with it rolling with some Phase IV amfleets!!

  • @milky27oreo In due time.

  • Very Nice!!

I have one of these as well, I'm just ordered my Soundtraxx decoder and I also would like to do all the lights as well.

  • Wow I just happened to stumble upon your vids and channel and it's all great! Wicked awesome layout so far and your instructional vids are great! Keep up the great work!

A question though, I have a small 4x8 layout and recently have discovered some of my "finished" track (nailed and ballasted on cork roadbed) uprooting around the curve and was wondering which method you used to secure your track to the roadbed?

  • The track is soldered together and spiked down into the cork. Once it is ballasted, I remove the nails and the glue and ballast hold the track in place.

  • really cool!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very nice.

  • Great videos. Is there any way to download these videos.

  • Yes, search the web for a program called "You Tube Downloader". Or select them as your favorite and it saves them for you.

  • Thank you !! I have sent an email for the layout design. Please email me when when ever you get chance.

  • Please email me the design when ever you get chance. I liked your layout design very much. Good Work.

  • What is your e-mail address???????

  • I have sent my email-address. Please confirm if you have got it.

  • No, I did not get it. Where are you sending the E-mail to. Just write it when you reply or send it to me on a private message.

  • Hello,

Pls confirm if you have my email address or else you can send me yours and I can reply to it.

Thanks for all the help !

  • No yet. Just reply with it.

  • @flymanjg aww that p42 is awsome

why cant i live in america cos i would love that model

btw do you have any coaches to go with that

  • Yes, I have Superliner, Amfleet and Viewliner cars all in the phase IV scheme.

  • LUV the amtrak man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great looking locomotive the sound sounds right on key !seen these locomotives live in person there awsome even though critics voted them ugliest loco made still love them your right k5la is the proper horn great job

  • Thank You.

  • These layout vids are TRULY great, please, PLEASE keep them coming, a wealth of knowledge here.

  • did you sent your horn on the amtrek p42 to a certain cv?

  • The QSI decoder I used already came programmed for the P42. Did not have to do anything. It can be reprogrammed to other horns but then you have to buy the programmed. Stick with Tsunami.

  • ok thanks for the reply, the reason i ask was it seems that the qsi decoder horn was some what a little better than the Tsunami i used. Maybe i can change the horn cv's with the Tsumi i used in the p42?

  • See is the Nathan K5LA is on the Tsunami list. I believe that is the proper horn for the p42.

  • thanks will check it out and let you know,

  • Awsome model! Man every video i watch (so far in order) my jaw just drops lower and lower 2 the floor!! the hue or color spectrum of the ditch lights are very realistic to me.Nice Job.

  • Excellent , once again a step above the rest.

  • damn.. I need to come over one of these days and see your progress in person!!

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome! All you need now are some Amtrak cars.

  • nice loco!!! would love to see how you did the conversion!!

  • Conversion video starts tonight.

  • Excellent! Wat decoder did you use in it?

  • Outstanding!!!

  • Layout looks great, I like the paint on the diesel shop, and I love that P42!!!

  • Great job, im looking forward to the conversion video.

  • haha that p42dc sounds like it has a p3 hrn on it

  • I had the same concern when QSI made this horn available. I contacted them about it and they swore it was the correct horn and gave me a long technical explanation as to why it sounds different from the video I had sent them via a link.

According to the rep there are two other variants that they are working on for this horn. We'll see?

  • **update**

QSI is re-doing the sound set for the K5 horn. It should be more accurate when the do another update (hopefully)

  • great video, please show the process

  • looks great!

  • sweet! i have done that exact same thing to one of my P42s. im waiting to go ahead and do the same thing to my 2nd P42 i have. What decoder did you use?
