The fact that men and women of the UDR/RIR, RUC and BRITISH ARMY died doing their job,civilians died for being in the wrong place at the wrong time did not come into the equation. Also the UDR was the main source of weapons for Loyalists a British military report from the mid 70s entitled 'subversion in the UDR' even states this!

To be fair the record of the UDR suggests that they are not the most impartial of forces and even a British Military report from the mid 70s acknowledged this! it pointed out that the UDR was the only source of modern weaponry for the Loyalist paramilitaries and also estimated that around 15% of its membership were involved in paramilitaries and events such as the Miami showband massacre and the killings of the Devlins in Edendork confirm that there was collusion between the UDR and loyalists.

I never read of any North Americans giving weapons to Loyalists to be fair and the Middle East supply only came into play through connections with the apartheid regime in the late 80s! Like it or not the UDR has a bad reputation and rightly so as a section of its membership was of dubious character and had links to or even worse were actually part of Loyalist paramilitary groups!
