@SuchSweetParadise Well she is over 18 now and of course she had to tell her about it! She doesn't need permission! I told my mom I was going to live with my boyfriend next semester and she was upset but she also knew there was nothing she could do about it and it is going to happen anyway!
As old as Thelma was, why in the heck did she need permission to do anything. They were her children but old as dirt by these episodes, even Mike was older.
Florida was against her living with Evay, understandably so, but when Evay asked Thelma to marry him, she was against that as well! Thelma was 20 years old. My daughters once they become of age, I had to respect their decisions and choices, and trust that I had raised them with them to make the best choices for themselves.

I remember about a month ago, somebody had written a letter to the editor, in my local newspaper, that children today don't help cook or clean. And they are disgraceful to their parents. If I had said things to my parents that some of these kids do, my father would have back-handed me.
@mobi0501, This same story was used in the movie "Coming To America". The only difference was the african guy played by Eddie Murphy was a super wealthy prince. And the father was John Amos from this sitcom Good Times.
Coming To America was like a continuation or spinoff from this particular episode of good times.
