  • set the dye in the microwave - much faster

  • Can this method also be used 4 kool-aid dying? I don't wanna deal with harsh chemicals.

  • Wonderful!!!!! Very nicely done and informative video. (P.S. I like the demonstrator's shoes, too!)

  • Got my sock blank-can't wait to dye my socks. Wish the knitting would go a little quicker. So many ideas - so little time.

    Sue

  • what a wonderful idea . . .

  • Just an aside... What does the vinegar do?

  • It is a catalyst that makes the dye set in the wool.

  • This is tremendous!! How would i make a fair isle sort of final effect?

    smiles and miles of fiber,grace

  • Try making smaller dots and dashes with the dye in regular intervals. You probably won't be able to make a picture, but you could cause sections of your sock to look like a Fair Isle geometric pattern.

  • This is freaking BRILLIANT!!! and if you go to the web site, the blank is cheaper than if you simply bought 2 skeins of sock yarn. I cant wait to try this! pink and purple here i come!

  • WHERE can i get this product? never had heard of it before, we used to dye the entire skein trying to get an effect like this, and thats never a good thing if you mess it up, you have a entire skein that felted and cant be used. This is freaking brilliant!

  • My favorite line..."dye safely" LOL

I had never heard of "sock blanks" before and thought I had seen everything on your website! This is going to be great for me because I rarely find a self-striping yarn where I like ALL the colors together. This is a great way to design your own!

    Most excellent tutorial, thank you!

  • Adding vinegar directly to the dye stock makes it "set" in place immediately, which gives you nicely defined lines. If you don't add vinegar to your dye stock, the dyes will migrate and intermingle, giving you a blended effect. If you don't add vinegar to the dye stock, you'll want to make sure that you spray the blank with vinegar before steaming it so that the colors don't migrate further.

  • Great tutorial. Thank you. You mention that we can add vinegar depending on our desired effect. What effect does adding vinegar provide?

  • What a fantastic idea!! Can't wait to try it.

  • w00t! I've already ordered five... :D

  • Looks like fun! I like the hot pink ones.

  • I can't WAIT to try this!
