@Jtanderson64 Too true, I remember when song came out I was @ 20 y/o...that line "someone's out there on the street tonight, when things go wrong he'll guarentee to make them right, if the price is right." Sticks with me for life; I was one of the lucky ones who got out from under that mountain of cold by my late 20s. Years of hell I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy & a lot of friends who didn't make it. To them I say RIP...to the dealers may they rot in Hell...
Well I agree it is underplayed but obviously Bob doesn't think that much of it or he would have put it on one of his two greatest albums. The song actually quite resembles "The Fire Inside" that made it on his first greatest hits album.
American Fuckin Storm!! 2nd Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Charlie Company 1-9, Manchu Warriors. Ar Ramadi Iraq. Al Qaeda learned a lesson 'bout messin with a well trained battle hardened US Army battalion!! We kicked their asses...they learned what it's like to go up against AN AMERICAN STORM!! Hell yeah...and Hooooaaaahhh!!!
If you want to see the ORIGIONAL video (the one that looked like it was part of a movie), go to Bob Seger's Official website. They got it there. It's classic 80's video. Reminds me of "Miami Vice" when it was cool back in the dat.
@Javbuff2008 the video didn't come from a movie. The video was just shot that way. This was during the time when the tv show "Miami Vice" was popular.
@RamblerGambler This was a miscalculation on several levels. It was sort of a comeback album for him, and this first single sounded too much like a lot of other things he'd done before. And "American Storm" was perceived as being in E Street territory because of Born in the USA. And the video made it look like this song was from a movie soundtrack.
I saw this show back in 1986 also at Market Square Areana in Indianapolis and I agree it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Keep on rocking Bob.
That's the one I was expecting to see! I always thought it must be a clip from a movie and this was the theme music. James Fox and Randy Quaid were in it, if memory serves me right.
@longhairedpig it's hard to say that this is one of his best as he has so many great tunes, like him putting out a greatest hits, yeah they all kick ass but, your always hungry for more. i can't get enough of his music either.
@longhairedpig - This is his Greatest Song! One of my all time favorites! I was never a Big Fan until I "accidently" found myself in one of his performances, One of the All Time Greatest Showmen!.....My first concert was Led Zepplin 77, seen everyone, Stones, Dylan, The Who, U2, Prince, Michael Jackson, Guns and Roses, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty,Talking Heads, Clash, Bruce.......on and on and on....and yes, Bobby Seeger can hold his own with any of them! God Bless him!
@WVUEERS Soooo many of the great ones never get played!! Not just Seger, but greats by B.Joel, Springsteen, Stones, etc. It goes on and on...A crying shame.
@jferkfjkj You posted that seeger is a million times better than bruce springsteen, and i will say this, bob puts on a low energy show, quite enjoyable, and he does a freakin fantastic job on his music, but his deciscion to not tour where bruce has been relentless in pleasing his fans with HIGH energy shows with duration exceeding 3 hours is what I mean.
@Ministryoflove45 Thats the way he wants it. I personally respect that! Besides he doesn't need them. Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan just announced a few weeks ago that Segers 1st greatest hits from '94 was the decades-(2000-2010) best selling catalog album. Not The Beatles,Elvis, Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin, or Springsteen. Nope it was little 'ol Bobby Seger from Ann Arbor, Michigan...
Thanks. I was wondering 'cos I've never heard on the radio and Wikipedia said that this was a single off "Like A Rock" so I asked 'cos I find it odd that I never hear it on the radio.
@redrocker1055 I wonder if you're a white guy from Michigan? kidding my friend, so am I. I like Seger and Hockey is my game so I definitely know who Stevie Y is. I was in high school when this came out, I used to go nuts surfing the dial on my radio in search of this song, as it got some airplay in Ontario but was not on heavy rotation. Today we have the internet and I can find this song with the tip of my fingers whenever I please, boy have times changed.
bob after 1982 sure went a LONG TIME between lp's, he must of had a lot of cash i am guessing....they really need to put those early lp's of his in print again.
He's been raising his family. Thats why he takes so long. Besides Seger is worth the wait!!!
He just released a CD tilted Early Seger Vol: 1 at Meijer's but I think I herd his website is selling them. Also I think I herd something about a wider release
sometime in February or March!
But as far as out of print albums, the last I heard he was in the studio re-mixing some old songs. Now if that means he only did it for this record or intents to re-release all the older stuff, I don't know!
Tell me about it, thaliea4 and Davidnaja ! In 86, i was full bloom into my " Don Johnson " phase .... LOL... and one of the actors in the movie, played of course, the stylish Tough guy cop, ala " Sonny Crockett " and... to make a long story short, I made the song my personal anthem leaving Michigan to join the Navy. Please let me know one of you or anyone here finds it. Grazie, Gracias, Thanks....
Yeah, I remember that mini-movie. It involved drug dealers and undercover agents I believe. That thing is damned near impossible to track down. I know that James Woods was one of the actors. Can someone PLEASE tell me who the other actor was in the video? Fairly big name- I keep thinking Dennis Hopper or Gary Oldman but it's neither of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Yes, thanks marisilence! I had totally forgotten about her. So it was James Woods, Scott Glenn and Leslie Ann Warren in the video. Why the heck is it so hard to find I wonder?
This is a great song, thanks for posting. Haven't heard it in a long time since I sold my vinyl album. Random thought: this would be awesome spliced with some great NFL footage ROFL.
BBC Radio 2 played this at the time....never did the recognotion it deserved! Brilliant driving track.

I love seeing pre-music video era musicians struggle with the format in the '80s.
Great song, great artist ... and if you don't like the video, just listen to the music!
