to live on the island of ireland, whether it be north or south...and mcilroy can do whatever he wants-he is doing the island proud :) yeah so the only pblm i do have is when people call me british when i in no way feel that way whatsoever, and they simply go "but you are NI is part of the uk". that's such an ignorant, patronising, insulting, and fleeting comment to make about someone.anyhooooo...
britain or british people. i love the country, have friends there, love visiting there. i dont have a problem with protestants in the north calling themselves british (most are going to do it anyway, even though sometimes i genuinely do feel "well britain don't even want northern ireland, and if you go to britain and say you are british they probably look at you and go "huh?? no you are irish-i've never seen that conversation but i imagine it's happened a lot)..anyway,so we should all be proud..
i have no problem calling myself northern irish, or just irish. i was raised a catholic, but have no problem whatsoever with any other religion. i don't even practice religion.whats the point.we are all the same.
however, i don't consider myself british-i never have, i never will. i don't feel british, i don't sound british, we in the north are different to the british. our humour, personalities are similar (everyone on the island-north and south). i don't have a problem with..
and this week mcilroy is playing for ireland in the world cup,the same as 2 years ago;his management team?Dublin based,as for northern ireland as a country???wtf?Scotland, wales and england have their own anthems, not so for norn iron, repatriation is inevitable............
one more thing. why couldn't we have just enjoyed it all over Ireland. its a great feat for a man from the same island as everyone else. politics shouldn't be involved. we should be united in the fact that we all support Rory. that's all that matters, right?
this crap is getting old. i wear a rangers jersey, yet i have irish citizenship. does it mean i love Britain? no. does it mean i hate them? no. he can call himself whatever he likes, but northern ireland is in fact on the island of ireland. hence, northern IRELAND. i don't mind people calling themselves british, but you should be northern irish first and foremost if you don't want to call yourselves just irish. and yes, I am a catholic rangers fan with irish citizenship.just get on people.
@senorcoonster I completely 100% agree with you, I was born in Belfast and while I've have spent most of my life in England and carry a British passport, I regard myself as Irish (Don't see much point in making a fuss over North or South as it's THE SAME ISLAND!) I support Rory and saw his victory as something we North and South could be proud of; just because I'm protestant and he's Catholic should I not? HELL NO! Religion and politics shouldn't carry weight in this at all.
his accent sounds irish, northern ireland is one of the four countries of the united kingdom and ireland is a whole other country. so therefor he is british.
@DrrnTW you can't force mcilroy to play under a foreign flag. He is from northern Ireland and his flag is the red hand of ulster, which he uses on his official website because he is a proud ulsterman who quite rightly classes himself as being British. C'mon Rory do it for northern Ireland!
Hopefully Her Majesty will cut the rug from under the feet of all the Oirishand when she hands him a gong. The way he's going, and the way he's promoting golf off the course, it'll be sooner than later. And deserved.
@WeeDrMckeegan I hope you're scottish or something, because, back during the famine, the english didn't like the NI presbyterians or protestants along with the Irish Catholics. why do you think they were sent to ireland during the plantation of ulster? therefore, i'm afraid some of your ancestors died during the famine too. look at your history books. sorry for the reality check. your comment pissed be off because of the ignorance of facts, not because it greatly offended me.
@fodkilloe you are a complete krusty clown. I bet you still point at airplanes whilst doing your job of village idiot. The uvf and their scumbag counterparts the IRa killed hundreds on innocent people in Northern Ireland whether catholic or Protestant. Wtf has that got to do with the price of eggs. Rory has a NI flag on his own website. Take from that what you will you silly sausage.
@sportzgurl94 No they are British. The country they were born in, Northern Ireland is British, therefore they are British. Just useless cunts can't get over the fact that Ireland and Northern Ireland are different countries. If you like Ireland so much, WHY THE FUCK DO YOU CONTINUE TO LIVE IN NORTHERN IRELAND?
@CallOfDuty4ProMod the reason why irish people claim the nothern plyers to be irish is because they all play under one organisation called the GUI. they should all be playing under the one flag just like in rugby and in boxing. the GUI was formed in the republic of ireland therefore the northern players shouldbe playing under the tri colour
@GlasgowRangers2009 i don't support the IRA you idiot, i read the story in the daily mail, and yes it is to do with me as a citizen of northern ireland who is running around armed and dangerous in my own country. if paramilitarism "wasn't to do" with us the public we might as well get the rest of them on both sides out of prison, stop bothering them and let them get on with their bombing and shooting, is that what u want?? me thinks if he was an IRA sympathiser u'd have a rather different stance
@sarahooxo He is. And looking at the "recent activity" feed on your profile (where you refer to 'smelly taigs' and 'up the UVF'), this may not best please you, but it's true. You should be ashamed of yourself by the way.
@sarahooxo yes he is. and you are a UVF supporter and/or member according to ur profile. did you know that Rorys great uncle was murdered by the UVF for being a catholic? Are u proud of that?
Great win for Northern Ireland, clearly did for us when he declined the tri colour from a stupid American to be seen with a Northern Ireland flag. YESSSSSS RORY!
@mirwin931 Not trying to start anything but just curious...why do yous from the North love to see that? Rep. or Northern we're all still Irish and that's the island's colours. Curiosity is all, just wondering??
It's not the Islands colours though, it's the Rep of Irelands. Nationalists in the "North" want to be seen as Irish and be represented by the flag of the Republic as it is not under British influence. We all know the flag of Northern Ireland (where McIlroy is from) and that's whay he used it. I have no problem with someone wanting an All Ireland, what I hate is when people aren't realistic and honest about what Country they are from.
@mirwin931 Yep it's the colours since we've been made Republic but the flag itself is supposed to represent unity on both sides. I just don't understand why someone from the North would hate to be seen as Irish. It's ur origin...obviously I won't understand properly not being brought up in it all but in the republic the majority would be of the mindset of just wanting the 6 counties back into an all Ireland. Find it hard to understand why people in the North want to be British so much
Yeah I understand the flag stands for. It was in the 1800's when people from the North of Ireland wanted to be apart of Britain (catholics also), most of them wanted Ireland to be one though but ruled from London. The majority of Irish Portestants still wanted to be known as Irish as well as British. Just like someone can be Scottish and British, Welsh and British etc. I myself as a British Citizen would call myself sn Irishmsn. It's not that I am from GB, but more about heritage and culture.
@mirwin931 Fair enough, just all seems backwards up there for some. Usually countries fight to get power back but it seems like so many from NI are fighting to stay British rather than to get their country back to how it started. Someone like Rory for example brought up as a catholic in NI but would play with GB in the olympics. Just doesn't make sense to me to declare for Britain rather than an all Ireland team. Where's the identity in that
Yeah I toltally understand where you're coming from. If I did a poll in the Shankill in Belfast and asked where King Billy is from, when NI became a nation, who created Protestantism, very few could tell me. A lot of it is listening to what your parents say and not being subjective and questioning your identity. But just remember, a largre amount of Irish nationals in NI do want to remain apart of the UK. Maybe you should ask them why!
@MrSweetFella Media and popular culture have a huge influence on why people identify more with the UK than Ireland, also belief systems 'passed down' over generations - the orange order being a big one. Many of us do identify as Irish though, including protestants. The Flag? Well, in the north the tricolour isn't just an expression of nationality like down south - it's a political statement.
Of course you IDIOTS would turn this into a pointless political brawl.
Go do something worthwhile with your lives and try to spread world peace. If you can't function in normal life without causing fights everywhere you go, then keep your mouth shut and keep your hands off the keyboard. Grow up and get out of the sandbox. Seriously, whiny little children are more civilized than you are.
Wow......I think we just found the arch-rival to Tiger Woods the whole world has been craving......this humble fella from Ireland will make the great Tigger crap his pants in the majors! Love the fact he's a modest kid who plays the game with zeal and has good moral fiber ---- not banging filthy skank whores in hotel rooms like that disgusting Tigger the Arrogant Douche! BIG CHEERS FOR RORY !!!
@Hunkola the fu-cking kid won his first major why will tiger be craping his pants lol its just one tiger has14 you idiots. -16 can't even come close to tiger -12 in 2000 a much more difficult course with him alone being under. par. Wait for the guy to dominate the whole tour to compare him with tiger and all the talk about jack record is bull shit.
that is an awesome school, they didn't get in the way of him and like didn't teach him anything, just let him go and play golf lol, why cant all schools be like that?
thats my mate in the orange @ 1:49!!! his names jamie and im telling him some1's trying to impersonate him... wait and see....oh and rory, jamie also has a green jacket if u want to borrow it for a while???
@golfin72 umm yes it is...thats jamie right there....i can prove it...jamie is a good golfer but quite camp (quite gay really) as proved at 1:49....he doesnt look up....he is constantly looking at rory mcilroy's trouser package...he once got a hard-on in the showers after rugby...only a gay man would wear that orange shirt. proof... i thank you
Re nk11090 comment - what a sad little bigot you are? Your idea of high fashion is probably wearing a celtic shirt 7 days a week. Rory has no interest in Northern Ireland politics. He is a golfer who is well respected throughout the world. You on the other hand are famous probably only in your own mind.... And possibly the off license you buy your daily carry outs from. I'm sure Rory will be devastated that he lost your respect though. Lol
@chrissline77 instead of sweaing at somewon with a hard earned living ,why dont you fucking get off your fat ass and try and earn half the living rory has acomplished
rory is a nice guy but for whatever reason i just can't support him. i don't have that patriotic emotion like i have for harrington. it's because i don't really know what he is. he isn't irish or brittish. is there any one in northern ireland who considers themselves northern irish because lets be honest it's not a real country, it's the worlds biggest compromise. mcilroy is a bit of a bottle job anyway and i can really see him doing a garcia on it.
@chatsworth1buccaneer do you still think he's a bottle job? It's a pity you dont support him, and it's really unfair that you're belittling northern ireland as a whole. It's had an unfortunate recent history but the people there on both sides deserve to have any identity they want - be it Irish, british or northern Irish. So (shhhhh, McIlroys a catholic) you should totally support McIlroy.
@thestu21 Well when he delivers a major I'll be proven completely wrong.I was watching last night hoping that Harrington would conjure up a miracle of his own but I was blown away by that performance by Mcilroy.I stand by what I said about Northern Ireland. It is the world's biggest compromise.I was really hoping that McIlroy and McDowell would win the world cup for Ireland a few months ago, what flag would they have draped around themselves?
@chatsworth1buccaneer It's the worlds biggest compromise to who? Would you not call the republic of Ireland a compromise too, considering it's missing a distinctively large patch in the corner that we gave up to the Biritish?
I don't mean to get sucked into a political argument, i just think its a pity that you wouldn't support a fellow Irishman, regardless that he's north of the border.
@thestu21 Please visit Rory's website, the visuals will reveal exactly where his allegiance is, and then compare that to Darren Clarke's website. These website designs send a strong message and it is not by accident.
@chatsworth1buccaneer The reason the websites are very similar is because Darren and Rory are managed by the same agency. "Chubby" form Chubby's corner on both of the sites is the president of the agency; like most agencies, im sure the have a key role in designing the player's web site. Chubby is at nearly ever PGA tour event a manages several other world class players.
@touchdown357 I'm talking about the layout of the sites. When you go to Rory's site there is a very prominent colour. There is a very different, yet equally prominent colour on Darren's site. The message it sends out is that one of them is British and the other is Irish.
@chatsworth1buccaneer Rorys is a neutral N.Irish theme and Darrens is Green. Seen as he flew the Irish flag & british flag in the past I think hes being very respectful to both sides of the political argument. Its just sad that a political argument should exsist anyway.
@simon44 Neutral and Northern Ireland don't go together. Fair enough there are people who are tolerant of the other side but I have never known any body to be genuinely neutral. In fact there is no such thing in this situation. You are either British or Irish. It's not sad when you consider people's values and allegiances. I think Rory is compromising himself as Dennis Taylor had to do, and is creating a fictional go between attempting to please everyone.
Northern Ireland has quite a wealth of young sporting talent at the present time. (Jonny Evans, Steve Davis, Mark Allen, Gemma McKorhill) But Rory Mclroy has to be the Province's brightest young star for many decades. I think he will be a multi major winner in years to come. And he won't end up making the same mistakes as Tiger. He's really got his head screwed on. Just a pity about his hair though. Get it cut Rory.
look rory lived in northern ireland but he is irish not fucking english.fuck the english ck mon the irish.cunts still didnt give us back the north ,greedy orange bastrrders
he's irish and british. if you know about politics, he is allowed to have both passports and citizenships because of the good friday agreement. he has played golf for both countries. why fight over this matter. i myself am an irish citizen, but i could give two shits about the whole northern ireland, republic thing. if you live on the isle, you are either irish from the republic, or irish from the uk. enough said.
your only british if you live on the isle of britain. if your irish and support the queen, great. but you will never be british unless you have parents born on the isle of britain. otherwise, scots are british. in the north, no matter what, they are irish
@swaaahtome fair enough, but i would call myself either british or irish depending on the context, and without reading too much into it - mcilroy has an irish name. even a hardline unionist, the rev. ian himself, said "“i would never repudiate the fact that i am an irishman”. but, i guess it's subjective.
@monogirl3 sounds like a scottish name to me, to be honest i dont care what he is, each to their own, i just think its embarrassing when irish people call him irish when he obviously doesnt see himself as irish.
@swaaahtome ookay. he doesn't seem like the type of person wrapped up in politics or identity issues anyway. but, i hardly see how it's "embarassing" if others percieve him as irish. i'm sure he doesn't mind or care.
All right chill out you mental asshole. I just assumed the United Kingdom and Britain were the same thing. And im not to sure what a gobshite is, because your not supposed to put shit in your gob but whatever you do in your own time is your business
yep.. a curly haired faggot that is the 17th best player in the world, who isn't even 20 yet.. i'm pretty sure if you play the game of golf, you would have at least some respect for this remarkable young man. apparently you don't so, keep the comments to yourself.
easy life...?! u find it easy because you are damn talented...whereas there are millions of golfers working their socks off to be as good as you, playing with one arm!!

Rory is a stud, he's hot and will be for a long time, he'll win a major soon
Nightwing690 1 year ago
Re nk11090 comment - what a sad little bigot you are? Your idea of high fashion is probably wearing a celtic shirt 7 days a week. Rory has no interest in Northern Ireland politics. He is a golfer who is well respected throughout the world. You on the other hand are famous probably only in your own mind.... And possibly the off license you buy your daily carry outs from. I'm sure Rory will be devastated that he lost your respect though. Lol

I love the guy's game and fresh personality. But I can't help but to give him the perfect gloss that even he would get a laugh out of: Danny Noonan.
Same hair, same fresh attitude, same incredible talent at a young age.

Nobody said he was English you cock. They said British.. Northern Ireland is actually part of the UK.
KomedyKluxKlan 1 year ago 2
rory is a nice guy but for whatever reason i just can't support him. i don't have that patriotic emotion like i have for harrington. it's because i don't really know what he is. he isn't irish or brittish. is there any one in northern ireland who considers themselves northern irish because lets be honest it's not a real country, it's the worlds biggest compromise. mcilroy is a bit of a bottle job anyway and i can really see him doing a garcia on it.
chatsworth1buccaneer 1 year ago
@chatsworth1buccaneer do you still think he's a bottle job? It's a pity you dont support him, and it's really unfair that you're belittling northern ireland as a whole. It's had an unfortunate recent history but the people there on both sides deserve to have any identity they want - be it Irish, british or northern Irish. So (shhhhh, McIlroys a catholic) you should totally support McIlroy.
thestu21 1 year ago
@thestu21 Well when he delivers a major I'll be proven completely wrong.I was watching last night hoping that Harrington would conjure up a miracle of his own but I was blown away by that performance by Mcilroy.I stand by what I said about Northern Ireland. It is the world's biggest compromise.I was really hoping that McIlroy and McDowell would win the world cup for Ireland a few months ago, what flag would they have draped around themselves?
chatsworth1buccaneer 1 year ago
@chatsworth1buccaneer It's the worlds biggest compromise to who? Would you not call the republic of Ireland a compromise too, considering it's missing a distinctively large patch in the corner that we gave up to the Biritish?
I don't mean to get sucked into a political argument, i just think its a pity that you wouldn't support a fellow Irishman, regardless that he's north of the border.
thestu21 1 year ago
@thestu21 Please visit Rory's website, the visuals will reveal exactly where his allegiance is, and then compare that to Darren Clarke's website. These website designs send a strong message and it is not by accident.
chatsworth1buccaneer 1 year ago
@chatsworth1buccaneer The reason the websites are very similar is because Darren and Rory are managed by the same agency. "Chubby" form Chubby's corner on both of the sites is the president of the agency; like most agencies, im sure the have a key role in designing the player's web site. Chubby is at nearly ever PGA tour event a manages several other world class players.
touchdown357 1 year ago
@touchdown357 I'm talking about the layout of the sites. When you go to Rory's site there is a very prominent colour. There is a very different, yet equally prominent colour on Darren's site. The message it sends out is that one of them is British and the other is Irish.
chatsworth1buccaneer 1 year ago
@chatsworth1buccaneer Rorys is a neutral N.Irish theme and Darrens is Green. Seen as he flew the Irish flag & british flag in the past I think hes being very respectful to both sides of the political argument. Its just sad that a political argument should exsist anyway.
simon44 1 year ago
@simon44 Neutral and Northern Ireland don't go together. Fair enough there are people who are tolerant of the other side but I have never known any body to be genuinely neutral. In fact there is no such thing in this situation. You are either British or Irish. It's not sad when you consider people's values and allegiances. I think Rory is compromising himself as Dennis Taylor had to do, and is creating a fictional go between attempting to please everyone.
chatsworth1buccaneer 1 year ago
Northern Ireland has quite a wealth of young sporting talent at the present time. (Jonny Evans, Steve Davis, Mark Allen, Gemma McKorhill) But Rory Mclroy has to be the Province's brightest young star for many decades. I think he will be a multi major winner in years to come. And he won't end up making the same mistakes as Tiger. He's really got his head screwed on. Just a pity about his hair though. Get it cut Rory.

rkomarzrko 2 years ago
he's irish and british. if you know about politics, he is allowed to have both passports and citizenships because of the good friday agreement. he has played golf for both countries. why fight over this matter. i myself am an irish citizen, but i could give two shits about the whole northern ireland, republic thing. if you live on the isle, you are either irish from the republic, or irish from the uk. enough said.
senorcoonster 2 years ago
thats what i based my first comment on, i know about the passports thing which is why i assumed ireland was part of britain
SkinnyBoySteve 2 years ago
@senorcoonster
your only british if you live on the isle of britain. if your irish and support the queen, great. but you will never be british unless you have parents born on the isle of britain. otherwise, scots are british. in the north, no matter what, they are irish
senorcoonster 1 year ago
@senorcoonster i would not consider unionists irish, it would be an insult to real irish people.
swaaahtome 1 year ago
@swaaahtome er, why do you assume he's a unionist?
monogirl3 1 year ago
@monogirl3 he said hes british
swaaahtome 1 year ago
@swaaahtome fair enough, but i would call myself either british or irish depending on the context, and without reading too much into it - mcilroy has an irish name. even a hardline unionist, the rev. ian himself, said "“i would never repudiate the fact that i am an irishman”. but, i guess it's subjective.
monogirl3 1 year ago
@monogirl3 sounds like a scottish name to me, to be honest i dont care what he is, each to their own, i just think its embarrassing when irish people call him irish when he obviously doesnt see himself as irish.
swaaahtome 1 year ago
@swaaahtome ookay. he doesn't seem like the type of person wrapped up in politics or identity issues anyway. but, i hardly see how it's "embarassing" if others percieve him as irish. i'm sure he doesn't mind or care.
monogirl3 1 year ago
@monogirl3 embarrassing in the way that alot of irish people only like him because they think hes irish...
