Sure, if you are a beginner who can afford or wants to buy half-dozen rods. You walk into Walmarts or Dicks, you've got to start somewhere, and the best buy I have seen is a Shimano combo with Quick Fire II; comes as 6' I believe.
there isnt a starter length for a rod the purpose of length is for the conditions u r fishing in if ur casting long distance u need longer rod if u are fishing on a boat or after fish that are close too you a short rod should be used
bamboo is more butifale then fibergalss I have a grphit and fiberglas + a bamboo rod
