I still think they should have blown up the Odyssey and left the Krushchev: would have made some interesting sstories for the last season if they had to borrow the Russian's starship.

What if they hit a peaceful trading ship many solar systems away? Or even a planet, if it's an energy shot? (Rockets would possibly burn at a planet with air)
@vaandor1 Energy weapons would just eventually fade out as the energy bleeds away into space as it passes what would be it's maximum range. Projectile weapons like torpedoes, railgun rounds, etc. would keep on going and still maintain their velocity. They could potentially survive reentry depending on the angle that they enter the atmosphere.

It is interesting that, for the most part, Stargate has much better visula effects than far more established shows, like star trek. Thier effects are fantastic! When ships blow up it actaully looks like they are blowing up, rather than disappearing MS paint style behind a cut and pasted explosion.
@Rayle75 remember star trek was made YEARS before this and you can see the evolution of special effects in the series too. Stargate could use startrek's errors to not make them themselves. Besides computers can do allot more nowadays.
@Rayle75 These clips are from 2006-2007ish. The latest Star Trek series: Star Trek: Enterprise aired 2003-2004. The 3D modelling and animation industry can progress alot in 3-4 years.
Latest Stargates are made on 1-2 generation newer equipment - quantum leap in capabilities. Besides, ST was never designed for eye candy CGI and there are subtle nuances rather than impressive sets.
ok i've got a good one for you... asgard in thier prime (pre- replicator war). vs ori/wraith. bearing in mind the asgard's beam weapons are epic, and thier ship designs are more than likely more suited to thier advanced technology. ill leave it with you :)

It wasn't just the sheer number of Wraith ships that did the Ancients in but the fact that they were more scientists and philosophers than warriors. They may have had the Auroras and Drones but they lacked the mentality to fight a real war.
Sheppard himself said 'Aincents could win every battle,but couldn't win the war' in Siege Part I...so,it was the sheer numbers that won the war for the Wraith...but I agree,Aincents weren't exactly warriors,thats why the built the Asurans;)
@Dalbert342 good point m8, but the ancients did not have beaming technology, and the asgard did have a large number of ships and an empire that stretched over an entire galaxy, all we saw of the asgard was when they where in the milky way galaxy, the only time we ever saw the asgard in there home galaxy was in the episode where o'neil travels to thier home planet when he has the knowledge of the ancients downloaded into his brain the first time.
the ancients did have a type of beaming technology(as seen several times in atlantis) and they also built 2 great empires and it is highly probable that they kept a fleet of warships to protect them

If the ori had fought the wraith I think the results would have been the same because the lanteans were just as powerful as the ori the only reason why they left the alteran galaxy was because the ainchents(sorry for bad spelling) did not want to fight a civil war with the ori.
not quite the wraith ancient war predated the ori but the outcome would have been the same with the ori putting big holes in the hive ship and then going boom in a rather pleaseingly fashion
I'm sure the results would have been the same, but the Ori would have come before the Wraith war. The Ori and Alterans lived together, then the Alterans left and became the Ancients in the Milky Way, then they went to Pegasus and thats when the Wraith war happened.

i think you guys are looking at this the wrong way, the ancients arent that hard to defeat, their only advantage is zmp and drones, however they probably only had a dozen or so auroras against possible hundreds of hiveships, granted the wraith lost many ships and it took them 100 years to win. The goa'uld has a massive fleet, trained warrriors, and now the new hataks shields and weapons are more advanced, but i guess the free jaffa have the old crappy hataks.
well that super hive ship has guns almost 1/4 the size of any earth ship what do you think that why it kicked there butts and if they made a rail gun that size and fire it at the speed of light like a real rail gun it word rip the super hive ship in half lol thats why the rail guns do not do alought of damage they cant get them up to the speed of light yet
well, now with few hits we can easily destroy an Ori ship
( sg1 10X20 Unending ), while we do minimal damage to that hive ( sga 5x20 ). On the other hand we can hold a lot of ori ship hits for much time ( the ark of truth ) while we cannot stand that hive weaponry ( sga 5x20 ) ( even atlantis consumed its shield is so few time ). So it's easy to say that that hive is much more powerful than an Ori ship

also the beam weapons dont drain ori shields, they just cause them to fluctuate so its entirely possible that ori shields cant be drained in anyway which makes the ori ship stronger
the first hit or the first two cause the shield to fluctuate, the last and fatal hits are supposed to break the ori shield and so destroy the ship, otherwise how could it be possibile to make those ships explode
im not saying that the plasma weapons dont destroy the ships, im saying that they dont drain the ori shields and that ori shields cant be drained in the same way that other races shields can

why wouldnt an ori ship have shields stronger than atlantis? ori shields are probably powered from a working version of Project Arcturus which far exceeds the power of 3 zpm's even at full capacity (
You guys have to remember that most of the energy of the 3 ZPMs was drained when they used the wormhole drive. As far as I have learned from various sources (episodes, forums,stargatewiki etc.) the Atlantis shield will hold against any attack as long as enough energy is channeled to the shield. It's not the same with Ori shields, for them, you'll need a weapon which can penetrate the shields. We don't know whether or not the superhives weapons could do this- Maybe it could, maybe not.
its not just the ammount of energy that defines shield strength but also the quality and quantity of the conduits that transfer energy to the shields
because atlantis is so large it can transfer enourmous ammouns of energy to the shield at the same time, but its shield can overload as seen on season 5 episode 10

It doesn't work the exactly the same, how else would the asgard plasma beam easily cut through it? It's true, we haven't seen the plasma beams against Atlantis's shield but from what we have seen so far, the Ori shield and Atlantis's shield are different. Although both are based of ancient technology since the Ori stole the knowledge once they had ascended as stated by Joseph Malozzi (did I spell that right?)
First, I've never seen you point it out before(I didn't look through all comments). Second, I know that. That was the point I was trying to make. As far as we know, the Atlantis shield doesn't fluctuate or fail in any way as long as enough energy is channeled to it. But that is as far as we know. That was the point I was trying to make, that from what we have seen, the Ori shields and Atlantis's shield don't work in exactly the same way(similar perhaps,but we can't know for sure).

However, you may be right that they are a bit similar.
if ur going to ask questions about science fiction i got some for u: why dont they just build shield disrupters or just steal the energie from the shield and convert it in to an laser blast to distroy the ship with its own energy, or why not just build a weapon wich by passes the shield.

You are mistaken about the lasers, its Asgard energy weapons... yea just energy weapons. The shield I believe would be up if the prior died or wasnt there but had activated them.
Technically, it would be incorrect to say that the Ori have the most powerful weapons/ships. Never saw them fight against their scientific counterparts.
I don't normally, but I have to jump in on this. The only reason the Tauri (Earth's Humans) and Free Jaffa were able to defeat the Goa'uld was because of the Replicator invasion. Similarly the only reason Atlantis survived was because of the Pegasus 'Replicators'. The Asgard's faith in us and thus willingness to share with us was all that saved anyone from the Ori, whose people, I might add, still poses the most powerful warships ever made. The Wraiths had numbers on there side to win the war against the Ancients, they got a couple of Zpms, and with those giant ass cloning, factory things of theirs, they would again, simply overwhelm the Gua'uld, if they knew what to do.
I don't reallu know who would win but i personally like the wraith more. But as it was said before (probably in another comment) the main problem with the wraith was that they couldnt build huge energy supply'ers (spelling?:S).
the reason why hiveships dont have is because they were useless in the war with the ancients since drones can go through shields, so why waste energy with shielding when you can increase weapon and hull strength. Although the goa uld would no doubt beat the wraith cause i mean at the most it was 60 hiveships. there used to be thousands of hataks before the fall of the system lords

They sacrificed their shields for a ship with a very resistant hull not to mention the fact that it can heal itself. Although you are correct, the Ancients only got beaten through being outnumbered and because they didn't want to use drastic measures such as Janus's "aterro device" and his time machine.
Yeah, that's true, not to mention all the pit stops they have to make when traveling in hyperspace. Although, with a zpm to power the hive it can grow to a "super-hive" as seen in the last episode of season 5. Now, that ship is a mean killing machine.
Well, apparently the wraith were skilled enough (or the Ancients just too overconfident) to get a couple of ZPMs during the war. But yes, true, one ship isn't much, not against the ancients. Although a few more can do considerable damage. It's pretty much only drones(of all the weapons) which can do some proper damage to the ship from the outside. And yes, the ship got destroyed.
the shields of a hatak are strong enough to withstand a few blows from a wraith hive, dont forget the size difference, hataks are much more munouverable than wraith hives, and remeber tht the wraith ships are sheildless and the goauld ships are VERY powerful especially to unshielded foe !1, tough hull or not an all out war with the goauld would almost deinatly end up with the forced slavery of the wraith, with goauld such as anubis, sokar and baal !!! one is sure to take a wraith host !!

the goa uld ships arent pushovers, before the more advanced races like the asgard stepped in the most powerful ships in our galaxy were goa uld !! railguns dont damage the hataks either ! iy takes alot of firepower to take down a hatak with promethius railguns. 2 nuclear misiles as powerful as hiroshema wer fired at apophis wen he attacked earth, they wer washed away like bugs on a windshield. hataks are powerful and fast, i doubt half a dozen shots wud hit the hataks if ther flown properly.
i see your point, hataks are more manouverable tho, and it might not be settled in a space battle, ground forces of the goa uld are far more powerful and diverse than the wraith,with warriors such as the jaffa, and anubis warriors, aswell as jaffa staff weopons, ZATs and staff cannons, and ground battle would result in the defeat of the wraith. they simply wouldnt win.
dont forget the only reason the goa uld lost to us is because we caused an uprising, and evrytime they advanced to new tech, we got in the way while it was still being built, given the time, theyd win
anubis was no ordinary ascended being, he was an ascended goa uld, and still, if a goa uld got hold of a wraith host, then the controling natural ppowers of the goa uld would give hi significant power over many wraith, their mental network would be overrun once enough goa uld had wraith hosts. they could stay hidden in the wraith mental network for some time before being found, and if they got hold of a queen, boy the wraith are so screwed !!
railguns do damage to a hive. Remember season 3 ep 1, they did so much damage that the hive couldn't fire anymore shoots. And couldn't go into hyper space.

It is interesting that, for the most part, Stargate has much better visula effects than far more established shows, like star trek. Thier effects are fantastic! When ships blow up it actaully looks like they are blowing up, rather than disappearing MS paint style behind a cut and pasted explosion.

@Rayle75 remember star trek was made YEARS before this and you can see the evolution of special effects in the series too. Stargate could use startrek's errors to not make them themselves. Besides computers can do allot more nowadays.

Besides, ships blowing up wasn't really what star trek was about. Stargate on the otherhand, was slightly different.

Latest Stargates are made on 1-2 generation newer equipment - quantum leap in capabilities. Besides, ST was never designed for eye candy CGI and there are subtle nuances rather than impressive sets.

It wasn't just the sheer number of Wraith ships that did the Ancients in but the fact that they were more scientists and philosophers than warriors. They may have had the Auroras and Drones but they lacked the mentality to fight a real war.

@Dalbert342 good point m8, but the ancients did not have beaming technology, and the asgard did have a large number of ships and an empire that stretched over an entire galaxy, all we saw of the asgard was when they where in the milky way galaxy, the only time we ever saw the asgard in there home galaxy was in the episode where o'neil travels to thier home planet when he has the knowledge of the ancients downloaded into his brain the first time.

I'm sure the results would have been the same, but the Ori would have come before the Wraith war. The Ori and Alterans lived together, then the Alterans left and became the Ancients in the Milky Way, then they went to Pegasus and thats when the Wraith war happened.

i think you guys are looking at this the wrong way, the ancients arent that hard to defeat, their only advantage is zmp and drones, however they probably only had a dozen or so auroras against possible hundreds of hiveships, granted the wraith lost many ships and it took them 100 years to win. The goa'uld has a massive fleet, trained warrriors, and now the new hataks shields and weapons are more advanced, but i guess the free jaffa have the old crappy hataks.

well, now with few hits we can easily destroy an Ori ship
( sg1 10X20 Unending ), while we do minimal damage to that hive ( sga 5x20 ). On the other hand we can hold a lot of ori ship hits for much time ( the ark of truth ) while we cannot stand that hive weaponry ( sga 5x20 ) ( even atlantis consumed its shield is so few time ). So it's easy to say that that hive is much more powerful than an Ori ship

the odyssey was powered via a zpm which boosted its shieldsand atlantis's shields were under severe stress due to earths atmosphere
also the beam weapons dont drain ori shields, they just cause them to fluctuate so its entirely possible that ori shields cant be drained in anyway which makes the ori ship stronger

the first hit or the first two cause the shield to fluctuate, the last and fatal hits are supposed to break the ori shield and so destroy the ship, otherwise how could it be possibile to make those ships explode

so are you telling me that if there had been an Ori ship in " enemy at the gate ", instead of the suoer hive, it would have inflicted more damage to atlantis than the suoper hive ?? no way. it would be very strange that one single ori ship can threat atlantis in that way..... THe super hive has much more powerful weapons, so it's easy to assume that it can drain faster ori shield and why not break into them like the plasma beam weapon

atlantis resisted for one hundred year to the wraith siege, and that superhive almost took atlantis ship away in few minutes,,,, i know the atmosphere thing... but how much the atmosphere can drain atlantis shield come on. i can't believe such a piece of technology with such a shield ( that resisted hundreds of years of wraith siege ) get its shield drained so much by passing throught the atmosphere

anubis's mothership shield was only at 40% due to being inside an atmosphere, so why wouldnt the shields of atlantis be affected the same way? they both use ancient technology.

You guys have to remember that most of the energy of the 3 ZPMs was drained when they used the wormhole drive. As far as I have learned from various sources (episodes, forums,stargatewiki etc.) the Atlantis shield will hold against any attack as long as enough energy is channeled to the shield. It's not the same with Ori shields, for them, you'll need a weapon which can penetrate the shields. We don't know whether or not the superhives weapons could do this- Maybe it could, maybe not.

ori shields work the same way
its not just the ammount of energy that defines shield strength but also the quality and quantity of the conduits that transfer energy to the shields
because atlantis is so large it can transfer enourmous ammouns of energy to the shield at the same time, but its shield can overload as seen on season 5 episode 10
because of the size and the ascended technology on ori motherships its doubtful any ship has the power to drain the shields

It doesn't work the exactly the same, how else would the asgard plasma beam easily cut through it? It's true, we haven't seen the plasma beams against Atlantis's shield but from what we have seen so far, the Ori shield and Atlantis's shield are different. Although both are based of ancient technology since the Ori stole the knowledge once they had ascended as stated by Joseph Malozzi (did I spell that right?)

First, I've never seen you point it out before(I didn't look through all comments). Second, I know that. That was the point I was trying to make. As far as we know, the Atlantis shield doesn't fluctuate or fail in any way as long as enough energy is channeled to it. But that is as far as we know. That was the point I was trying to make, that from what we have seen, the Ori shields and Atlantis's shield don't work in exactly the same way(similar perhaps,but we can't know for sure).

Silverish colour? For me, the Ori shield is light blue, and the Atlantis shield pretty much has no colour. However, you are correct that they both don't let energy bleed through and that they both have large amounts of energy at their disposal.However, the mere fact that the asgard beam can make the shield fluctuate and cut through, suggests that the reason no energy is bleeding through is beacuse the Ori shield is so incredible advanced. However, you may be right that they are a bit similar.

Adding a project Arcturus to their ships would've taken time. Why do you think they sent just a few ships rather than a whole fleet with hundreds of them. 3. 2: thats about as stupid as saying, the ori thought their main weapon unstoppable so they decided not to put a main weapon on, its clearly the shield that makes them believe their ships are invincible and i only stated that as a possible power source.
3: even without the weapon anubis' mothership had far superior shields, it was the planets atmosphere that limited its capability, not the destruction of athe weapon and its power.

@angrykid616 Actually the shields of Anubis' mothership were Goa'uld, they were just upgraded with Ancient knowledge whereas the Atlantis shield was designed to protect the city ship on a planet in atmosphere. The design of the city is evidence of that.

I don't normally, but I have to jump in on this. The only reason the Tauri (Earth's Humans) and Free Jaffa were able to defeat the Goa'uld was because of the Replicator invasion. Similarly the only reason Atlantis survived was because of the Pegasus 'Replicators'. The Asgard's faith in us and thus willingness to share with us was all that saved anyone from the Ori, whose people, I might add, still poses the most powerful warships ever made. Goa'uld vs Wraith=Goa'uld, Railguns vs Shields=time

I think maybe when they lost their faith in the Ark of Truth they lost the knowledge maybe the power to operate the technology.. otherwise they would still have the most advanced technology in the known universe which might be a problem in the story line.. the reason why hiveships dont have is because they were useless in the war with the ancients since drones can go through shields, so why waste energy with shielding when you can increase weapon and hull strength. Although the goa uld would no doubt beat the wraith cause i mean at the most it was 60 hiveships. there used to be thousands of hataks before the fall of the system lords

They sacrificed their shields for a ship with a very resistant hull not to mention the fact that it can heal itself. Although you are correct, the Ancients only got beaten through being outnumbered and because they didn't want to use drastic measures such as Janus's "aterro device" and his time machine.

Well, apparently the wraith were skilled enough (or the Ancients just too overconfident) to get a couple of ZPMs during the war. But yes, true, one ship isn't much, not against the ancients. Although a few more can do considerable damage. It's pretty much only drones(of all the weapons) which can do some proper damage to the ship from the outside. And yes, the ship got destroyed.

the shields of a hatak are strong enough to withstand a few blows from a wraith hive, dont forget the size difference, hataks are much more munouverable than wraith hives, and remeber tht the wraith ships are sheildless and the goauld ships are VERY powerful especially to unshielded foe !1, tough hull or not an all out war with the goauld would almost deinatly end up with the forced slavery of the wraith, with goauld such as anubis, sokar and baal !!! one is sure to take a wraith host !!

the goa uld ships arent pushovers, before the more advanced races like the asgard stepped in the most powerful ships in our galaxy were goa uld !! railguns dont damage the hataks either ! iy takes alot of firepower to take down a hatak with promethius railguns. 2 nuclear misiles as powerful as hiroshema wer fired at apophis wen he attacked earth, they wer washed away like bugs on a windshield. hataks are powerful and fast, i doubt half a dozen shots wud hit the hataks if ther flown properly.

railguns do damage to a hive. Remember season 3 ep 1, they did so much damage that the hive couldn't fire anymore shoots. And couldn't go into hyper space.

the rail guns didnt damage the hive, they destroyed the darts and the darts exploding damaged the hive
