  • I have to agree with cutegirl00179. Thank God there is still folk like Jr Brown putting out this kind of music.

  • He is such an amazing player!

  • Fucking amazing!

  • today's youth doesn't have the attention span to sit and listen to a guitar solo longer than 15 seconds, which is why you never hear any decent instrumentals in country music anymore

  • I saw Jr Brown as an opening act @ the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Vegas. He opened for some other act that opened for Alan Jackson. I was a bartender, and had to leave my post to see who the fuck this was. I wasn't a country fan until I saw him playing; my thought was "who the fuck is this country dude palying rock and roll?" amazing.

  • AND I respect the hell out of a guy who wears a coat and tie on stage. Classy, classy, classy.

  • I love the guys who keep it real like Mr. Brown. I also thinks he's classy for touring and performing with his lovely wife.

  • I love all the different version of The Sugarfoot Rag on YT.

  • it's not possible ahahahaahahaahah

  • fucking incredible

  • Awesome hybrid guitar

  • junior browns patented " guitsteel" guitar.

  • Junior went heavy metal there a couple times.....

  • DUDE!!!!! Are you bein' serious???? are you talkn' about Stevie Ray Vaughan??? You sayn' that Stevie Ray Vaughan wouldn't have been anything without hendrix is sooooooooooooooo much of a crazy statement!!!! I Love and own ALL of hendrix's records as well as Stevie I love both of them but I'm truley sorry in my opinion I do NOT think that stevie would not be here if it wasent for hendrix. I think he would still be here and just as good!! Wow..hmmmm the things pep ehh, nvm I'm not sayn' nuttn else

  • damn he's awesome

  • I like the way he throws in a little Hendrix quotation here and there in a classic country tune. The great old country guitarists like Jimmy Bryant and Joe Maphis were hip to what the jazz guys were doing back then, and Junior is updating the tradition. A lot of country nowadays is pretty lame commercial stuff, but Junior is keeping up the spirit of the good old days. Fantastic playing.

  • i fucking hate country and western(since a kid) but that is godlike a masive fan

  • go man go

  • I'd just like to go on record as saying junior brown is the man.

  • Sweet hat lol :)

  • 1997?! There's some big hair in that audience!

  • Ignore that last statement... I need another beer!

  • THERE IS A "GLITCH" (DEAD SPOT) AT ABOUT '145' THAT I'M SURE YOU DID ON PURPOSE, AS A MATTER OF FACT I KNOW YOU DID, YOU SUCK!!!!!!

  • hank garland wrote this

  • @69bigpapa Hank and Junior were buddies.

  • Junior Brown is a wild man! He may be the best guitarist in the U.S. Clapton should invite him to the next Crossroads Festival. Maybe not. Junior would, of course, steal the show!! And yes I agreed he snuck a Jimi lick in that song. Junior Da Man!

  • he taught Jimmy Hendrix whats up!

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Living proof that country and Hendrix go hand in hand

  • Very Cool !

  • Yep. There's some Hendrix in that tune for shore.

  • Did I hear a lick from Manic Depression?!?!

  • @SphynkTorr No man Power to Love..or Power of Soul from band of Gypsys....cool huh.

    TC...

  • @SphynkTorr Sorry..i stand corrected..I guess you did..Hillarious aint' it?

  • I'm glad he didn't let his hair and beard grow out like silly Nelson

  • @majorl31 Yer kicked off the bus son.

  • @51516 why dat

  • @51516 oh the Willy Nelson bus i see

  • I JUST LOVE CLASSIC COUNTRY / BLUES MUSIC!!!!YEAAH!!!

  • Ragtime Annie, he's quoting HENDRIX! Stevie Ray Vaughan was covering HENDRIX! There'd be no SRV without Jimi. Learn your music history

  • @peter65J A JOKE ! I was JOKING ! Golly !

  • @RagtimeAnnie Sorry...there's no sarcasm/just kidding emoticons on this thing. Thought you were serious because with some of the comments I've seen on YouTube sometimes....man! Serves me right for commenting on these things

  • here in w va we say in-believeable

  • Junior's wife is hotter than a 2 dollar pistol and then some...

  • Think about it, throwing in those Hendrix references in that room is not gratuitous, I think it's subversive and genius and it pays tribute to someone this guy obviously digs, a lot. Right on, Junior!

  • Junior is the Edward Van Halen of country music!

  • alexdroogie, his borrowings from rock are a compliment !

  • Junior Brown pisses excellence.

  • Now that ain't no front porch pickin. That's world class pickin!!!!!!!!

  • That intro is a cover of Jimi Hendrix's - A Band Of Gypsies --- "Power To Love" from Hendrix's 1969 Live at the Filmore East, New Years Eve. Junior all sneaks in a tribute to Jimi, here and there. Like the "Manic Depression" diddy midway. In this part of the USA -East Coast. Junior is known as "The Hendrix Of Twang"

  • @AnhMak I actually find the Hendrix quotes gratuitous in here. It actually detracts from the rest of what he's doing, which is very different, and thoroughly jaw dropping. He's a virtuoso country player, and should focus on that. His borrowings from rock are, sadly, not that much to write home about.

  • Hey! He's not quoting HENDRIX ! He's quoting STEVIE RAY VAUGHN !

  • @RagtimeAnnie Ragtime Annie, he's quoting HENDRIX! Stevie Ray Vaughan was covering HENDRIX! There'd be no SRV without Jimi. Learn your music history

  • @peter65J Amen. While Stevie was a good player, ultimately he was more imitator than innovator. Junior makes references while Stevie quoted practically the entire catalog. Stevie could not have existed without Jimi, whereas Junior would simply have less ammunition; the latter would get very bored playing only Hendrix infused blues.

  • @alexdroogie100 Gratuituos, perhaps for the purists amongst us and that's fine. And for those of use who delight in a collage of well-known melodies, regardless of their musical genre, that's fine too. If it sounds good, it works for me. As the late, great Jaco Pastorius said: "In music, it's ok to keep an open mind."

  • @AnhMak Thank you, I thought I was having a flashback. I'm just discovering this country twang stuff and man it's just mind blowing......

  • @stikhi My pleasure M8. Enjoy the hybrids. They certainly do dazzle the mind.

    All the best.

  • @AnhMak power of soul

  • Jesus H Christ, Junior can do no wrong on that guit-steel :)

  • heck fire, that fella can play!

  • nice... john 5 does a sweet cover of this song as well...

  • @tippoff2 I was gonna mention John 5's version if someone else hadn't. :)

  • Awesome guitar player !

  • A little Junior Brown Tune to get us on the road at 6:30 heading West. This and some coffee should get us off to a good start.

  • Junior and Jimmi would have really hit it off, then fired up a big ole' bowl after jammin'

  • WOW!

  • When will this man come and do shows in Tne Netherlands, this is not just great, it is SUPER... love it.

  • Junior is the best. I like the Jimi Hendrix Power Of Soul intro.

He also quotes Hendrix's Third Stone From The Sun.

There's no one like Junior. He sings great too..... MERC

  • @merc0049 There's a quote from "The Wind Cries Mary" at the end.

I've seen him here in Ann Arbor a few times and he ALWAYS tears the place up. He's the real deal, along with Ann Arbor native, Bill Kirchen. Would love to see the two of them team up.

  • GO Junior! GO Junior!

  • I really like the CD/studio version better but it's still great to see this guy play live!

  • This is what Country is supposed to be, not the crap on the radio today. I love Junior Brown.

  • @cutegirl00179 Got that right! I'm not a great country fan but love Junior, Randolph, the late Jerry Reed and Chet, you get it.

  • Did you know he was a state trooper and his fellow officers convinced him that he should be in Nashville so he did

  • Yep he has been one of my biggest inspirations, I made my slides to get the best of both worlds. I have seen this guy in a few places way back when, myself a few people, he put on an amazing show, he can rip and also pretty nice guy.

  • saw him on a boat on the hudson river, great concert, afterwards very approachable and friendly

  • @gentrekin1 Could you tab this out for me? or Direct me to a tab that uses a similar technique? I would really like to incorporate this into my cover of sugarfoot rag. Thank You!

  • 1:55 hey joe, nice

  • I have a longer version of this on a 45rpm. No matter what the length, this song is great!!!!!

  • this pretty cool but i like john 5 version better

  • Junior is so underrated!! Just one of the coolest and most unique guys out there!! Both his guitar playing and his voice.... just superb!! I mean he breaks into "Manic Depression" in the middle of a Country rag. Crazy man!! ~Kennedi KIng

  • she looks like a sexatary! I mean a secretary. .... did I type that outloud?? excellent stuff....I love JR!!!!

  • What is the technique he is using at 1:47. He does this throughout a lot of his solos. Sounds like he alternate picks between muted and non-muted notes. Anyone know what that particular technique is called?

  • @xXxHOGZILLAxXx Do not know the term but know how it is done

  • ITS LIKE THE CANON ROCK OF COUNTRY

  • I keep wondering when the instrument will explode from over use. Go JB!

  • serious picking!!

  • DAMN that boy can play. I have seen Junior many times but never the lovely Tanya Rae. He never fails to entertain. Talk about a guy who knows how to play that thing and not is all flash and volume. ROCK JUNIOR!!!!!!

Gotta love the drummers and his massive kit, LOL

  • @torgo714 hahahaha....i didnt even notice the drummer till i read ur comment!!FUNNY stuff!

  • the guy just rocks!♥

  • One of the Best ever! Awesome twang country fender tone & harmonics!

  • Love the Hendrix quote in the middle! Guy rocks.

  • Manic Depression Junior. I love it too. This guy is one of the premier guitarists. Have you checked out his 'Rock & Roll Medley' or The Ventures cover tunes? I love that guit-steel he plays!

  • Reminds me of the song "Acid Country" by Tim Wilson, elsewhere on YT.

  • and at the end!

  • @johnnyboync1 He will be at the Aquarius Music Hall in High Point tomorrow (1/24)

  • I LOVE the section where he plays the solo from Manic Depression!!

  • i've seen him twice in asheville nc and the two shows just kicked ass!! i saw him both times at "be here now", a pretty small place. he was so good with the crowd.

i'd love to see him again>

  • 2:52 Dig the strumpets!

  • Ya' talkin 'bout the Hot Austin TX babe groupies drooling over Junior in the front row?? Fortunately (or maybe not) the girl strumming the acoustic guitar to Junior's left is his wife Tanya. I'm sure that guitar she's holding can become a 'weapon' if needed. LOL

  • @rleary1 I'm sure they've played in a few places where the band was caged up in chicken wire for self defense against long neck flyers. You ain't country til you've ducked a few beer bottles flung b/c what you were singing reminded some ol boy of his ex.

  • bootiful

  • yeah, thats the spirit

  • I also have seen Junior Brown 3 times in Texas and he is absolutely amazing. My favorite guitarist of all time.

  • I have seen this guy 3 different times in Texas and he is a show stopper every single time....purely amazing....always big applause

  • I would love to see him play with Mark Knopfler. I bet they could really set the frets afire!

  • I saw Junior play live in Postfalls Id in the late 90s, You will never see any1 get more standing o's than Junior brown. Every single guitar solo got 1.

  • It's good alright, but Hank Garland still owns this song. RIP Hank.

  • what a strange guitar thing... lol

  • @fenderbuzzer He actually made that, he saurtered a lap to a tele..

  • ha yeah i sorta can see that.

  • @fenderbuzzer he calls it a guit-steel

  • Brilliant!

  • this is good but so is duane eddy's version

  • THE SICKEST

  • Love the Henrdix ending

  • Wow

  • He's something else.

  • 2:46 Good grief, Did he invent that kind of technique?! That's crazy!

  • And I mean that in a good way!

  • He is Danny Gatton meets Jimi with some great balls of fire.

  • how crazy...

  • It opens up new ways to make music, That's how crazy! Crazy good!

  • He sure can play the guitar... ;)

  • u can tell he digs Jimmi

  • jimi hendrix!

  • Legendary Guitarist Hank Garland's Dear Friends, Guit-Steel Player Junior Brown ='s EXCELLENT. He puts on the greatest show we have ever seen! Get out and go see his show. You will love it and be glad you did! What fun!

    The Hank Garland Family

  • Hi Garland family! Hank was cool!! His stuff is so hip guys are using Hanks riffs and licks in 2009 and beyond!

  • he's such a ripper, so good

  • You think this guy sounds good on the little computer screen on youtube? See and hear him LIVE! One of the best performers I've ever seen- and I've seen a lot of great musicians over the decades.

  • he should perform the half time show for the superbowl

  • I love the manic-depression part in the guitar solo!!

  • 1 step 2 step slue foot drag, now we're doing the Sugarfoot Rag!

  • Junior is smokin'!!!

  • flippin heck! this is gooooooood.

  • I saw Junior two years ago in July at Knuckleheads bar in Kansas City, he got the crowd movin. I loved it and I'm goin back to see him again in a couple weeks at the same place

  • Jr. can play anything. I love it.

  • wicked performer.... wow!

  • He's a dynamic performer!

  • Love Junior - hate the video editing style. Want good video editing, watch ACL; the producer ruined this take.

  • junior brown is the buckethead of country/bluegrass music-both are very very talented guitarist-love them both ;)

  • Junior breaks all the rules. Wow! I'd like to see the metal grunge folk tackle Sugarfoot Rag - it's the entry tune to the hall of giants.

And he's fun to watch. Playful and gifted.

  • Thats a great line neuro - ""the entry tune to the hall of giants" - and this guy is one of them. Outside the US country guitar players are sorely underated perhaps even in the US. Go Junior -what a fantastically orginal character. Love im.

  • Thanks diony - I collect as many versions of Hank Garland's demonically original tune as I can find. Junior blows me away -so too ChetAtkins - but my fav. version is where Doc Watson and Duane Eddy incorporate Sugarfoot Rag into Thunder Road.

(Track10: Thunder Road/Sugarfoot Rag on 'Docabilly' album) "Aww play it Duane.)

  • grease spot baby..jr brown rocks

  • WOW!

  • Junior is the coolest.

  • sugarfoot rag tribute to the great hank garland with a little hendrix thrown in lol junior dont ever change bro =) totally original.........

  • TNN was an awesome station ... too bad they got rid of it

  • manic depression at 1:50!

  • I am doing my Jed Clampett dance right now.

  • monster picker..

  • Guit-Steel baby! Jr. is my hero!

  • only place to see Junior is at the CONTINENTAL club on SoCo.

  • that's so good it HURTS!

  • This guy is such an original. Super musician, and just so damn COOL!

  • Dude.

    This guy's bad ass.

  • To add to my last comment, "Guitar Player" magazine is normally reserved for Heavy Metal Guitar Players. So, for this Country Artist to be placed on the cover, well, you do the math. Junior is one bad dude.

  • @pheyup33 I love Junior Brown but Brad Paisley has also been on the cover of Guitar Player magazine. Both great guitarists.....

  • Junior Brown is the "ONLY" Country Star to ever be placed on the cover of "Guitar Magazine". He is one bad dude, and he is true. I have very strong feelings about the "Newer Country Music Singers these days. Not all of them, but I'll say about 70% of them are just Pop Music Rejects. Seems like all you need is a pretty face, and a shity song to make it in the Coutry Music business these days. When I was growing up, I had know idea that the great Country Music I grew up on, would soon disaper.

  • Here here... (hear hear?) Hmm... yes. And you forgot to mention a Jon Bon Jovi Hairstyle. Hey, thumbs up to Jon, Cheers 'n all, but for country? No. Most country now is genre-neutral pop. Merle Haggard is gone. Waylon Jennings is gone. Marty Robbins is gone. The genre is gone. There are 2 performers anymore in "Country"... a man-voice, and a woman-voice. Past the two distinctions, they all sound the same.

  • @pheyup33 do you count brian setzer as country? It's hard to put that man in a category... but yea junior brown rocks. Seen him live 2 times.... awesome+5

  • @pheyup33 You said it all. You hit the nail on the head.

  • @pheyup33 the exception to pop country music is the zac brown band because they can really play

  • amazing....rocking out on the guitar he made himself

  • jb is god
