@DjStiv3 No, there actually is a lot of third party support (much of which is free through the app store) and you can use WineBottler to convert .exe executable windows files to .app files which will work on OS X.

That number has to be significantly stretched, for the estimated linux users. x.x I'm on Linux right now, but only because it's my last available resort (if I had a mac as well, the mac would be my last resort). Until I get my CPU in the mail tomorrow, I'll be stuck on this linux laptop, but once the CPU is in, I'm back to the top with Windows 7 Ultimate.
Linux if really fast. My 100MHz pentium 1 machine with 40MB of ram run my own up to date hand tuned version of DSL faster than windows 98 it previously had. I also use it on my main computer(1,3GHz AMD Duron with 1GB of ram). Distro is also hand tuned version but this time it is based on knoppix. Works faster than our shools new Window$ 7 computers.
I love Linux. I use Ubuntu with compiz and all my friends with mac's and windows say how nice it looks. In windows 7 it used to take me a good 3 minutes or more to boot up and get firefox up and running and in ubuntu it takes about 30 seconds to boot up with firefox,cairo dock and and thunder bird fully loaded and ready to go. I used to be a Windows guy but since ubuntu 10.04 im all about linux

@mrperson123 Unless you get the one that was already made, just waiting to be downloaded, installed, and configured twice faster than any other o/s. But hitting the download button on a Linux website isn't as user friendly as finding drivers for windows, installing codecs on windows, also downloading un-necessary Antivirus updates which actually don't do anything.
And Linux does suck. I've used it. While it is more stable than Windows since it is UNIX, everything that is made for it is open-source, so it also has a Mac build. Basically Mac is like Linux but way more usable and organized.

You know, Linux is an amazing OS and all, but Linus Torvalds once said "Use the right tool for the job." That is exactly why I have another computer that boots Windows so I can use iTunes. I'm not a big online gamer at all, so most of the Windows apps I used (excluding iTunes) were either available on Linux or had a good alternative to it on Linux. If you just need a good computer, not for gaming or other stuff like that, just let your personal preference decide that.

I love de Linux on dem old machines! Bought my computer for 58$ (shipping included) at property room, a police auction site. Not only does it run great, it runs faster with each Ubuntu release! The best part about cheap computers is that I can fool around, tinker and have fun. If it breaks down, i don't have to put any more money into it. Just bought another one for 62 dollars. It takes a better video card so I can get back to Second Life. My present computer wouldn't take an upgrade.

I have respect for everyone that uses a mac but i use a pc because of the freedom in which i can do anything. My old dell inspiron came with windows xp professional and it was so slow I couldn't even type in wordpad and have music playing at the same time so I decided to try linux mint. I ran so much faster and I only ever managed to crash it a few times, which is amazing compared to the about of crashes and BSODs I used to get with windows. I think the fact windows is the most popular OS is more to do with marketing than quality of software.
linux is so wide, that it will all depends on what you like... i prefer suse but some other users prefer ubuntu, mandriva, fedora, etc. at least we all agree that linux is way better than the other private operative systems

Fact: If you have skills to install Linux, all hardware drivers and to fix small problems using the command line, you have enough brains to do a Windows installation and to keep it running without virus/spyware/crashes.
When open soft ware gets some more steam and more support from popular soft ware companies, Windows and Apple are gonna fall. But for now, I just use win/lin dual boot.
As many years as it takes for all the software companies to make Linux Ports of their applications and games - Thats how long. @JoshKnightmare , there are more viruses on Windows like back door Trojans b/c alot of huge companies run windows and for professional hackers and virus makers thats where the gold is so they try to steal information of big companies. If a-lot of big companies ran Apple OS for a fact there would be a-lot more threats out there for Apple then Windows.

I have respect for everyone that uses a mac but i use a pc because of the freedom in which i can do anything. I have dealt with macs before and trust me there are viruses so people who say their are not any can get their ass kicked for being stupid. Everything can get hacked, messed up by spyware. PC's may be cheap but that's because you have variety where as in a mac you have to spend 1k-10k bucks just to get a decent one or a "b-a" one. You can custom build a pc for cheap, with macs you cant.

You are not forced to use an OS. Well, maybe PC users since their computers are cheap. But not Mac, they are chosen because of their good quality OS. No viruses. You realize those numbers are very low. If you're talking strictly North America then you might be close (this advertisement is outdated obviously). There are about 2 billion people on the net every day, 24.2% of which are on Windows 7/Vista, 6.7% are on Mac, and 4.3% are on Linux. What are the remaining percentage on? Obsolete Windows Operating Systems.
If we look at the current OSes, Mac and Windows 7 are tied at 6.7%, Linux is at 4.2%. It's a close race for sure.

Yeah close race for sure for the Mac and Windows.. Not for Linux. If you are being sarcastic, i agree of what you said. I think Windows still need to work on security, no questions asked. Mac have updates on their OS every day. Windows 7 have updates.. i think every week or every month. Because of this, Virus programmers have more time to code a virus. And in that time if you download something, there is a greater chance you might get a virus compared to Macs.

My old dell inspiron came with windows xp professional and it was so slow I couldn't even type in wordpad and have music playing at the same time so I decided to try linux mint. I ran so much faster and I only ever managed to crash it a few times, which is amazing compared to the about of crashes and BSODs I used to get with windows. I think the fact windows is the most popular OS is more to do with marketing than quality of software.

linux is so wide, that it will all depends on what you like... i prefer suse but some other users prefer ubuntu, mandriva, fedora, etc. at least we all agree that linux is way better than the other private operative systems

Or 4 more Windows OS failures ranging from Windows Vista to Windows ME quality - anything below ME quality automaticly makes linux the major OS used throughout the world by default.
