  • Im so fuckin in love with this band.

  • completely forgot about this. Awesome

  • I want this. So much love for Editors.

  • fantastic cover

  • it´s perfect¡

  • RIP R.E.M. anyhow a great cover by editors

  • I think this version sounds much better than the original, but then I'm not a big R.E.M. fan; Michael Stipe's voice can be really annoying. the guitar textures, drumming, and addition of new-wave-y keys are all a bit plus, as well as tom Smith's voice! :) I like the "weird" backing vocals.

  • @sadlsore "big plus," not "bit plus," sorry. The only part I don't really like is the solo piano "dirge" in the beginning.

  • @sadlsore Aw, that's the part I like the best :/

  • @sadlsore I think it is the best, because after it everything changs and it gets more power!

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • both versions are stupendous . This one gives it a new and wonderful editorial spin.

  • i miss a bit the other bass but hopefully it didnt have those irritating backing vocals on the chorus

  • tom tom tom!!

  • I'm in love with the dreamy piano intro.

  • i prefer this version im in love with Editors though still a massive fan of R.E.M though

  • Excellent cover!!!

  • I feel like they should have sampled the chorus and created their own song with the changed lyrics they made, it would have been a really good song

  • Bizarro

  • Why the hell did they butcher the lyrics in the Chorus? It totally changes what the whole song was written about..... Love the sound, can't stand how they butchered the song lyrics...

  • i would like to dedicate this to my chaser in this a.m.

  • I prefere this version, seriosly!

  • Weird.

  • Somehow refreshing after original.. Don't get me wrong, original is great too!

Just have to listen this again and again :)

  • In fairness his voice works brilliantly for this song. (Which is one of my top favourite R.E.M. songs). Definetely better than MCS' cover of Pop Song 89 (and i like MCS). Anyway, definetely a good cover!

  • Love this cover! Madness!!!

  • i genuinely prefer this to the original. the production is way more interesting

  • People are generally always very quick to condemn a cover song. It obscures your judgement on the song itself, and in this case, it's a great version. Honestly, could you imagine any other artist or band doing a better cover of Orange Crush than this??

  • i prefer REM's version

  • It's like they took all that's edgy in the song and brought it out - which REM were to mellow to do

  • They sound great!

  • on what album is that song??

  • It's a b-side, from one version of the "Blood" single.

  • fantastic cover! Being as staunch REM as I am that praise doesn't come easy!

  • Amazing!!!!!!!Please watch shamwow or shamewow parody by komercialkillers!!!Go editors!!!!!!!!!!And REM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the beginning of this song. <3

  • Editors were R.E.M's supporting band for their tour, also R.E.M. Did a cover of Munich by Editors so all is fair

  • I'm loving this comment thread...if musical interpretation dies, civilisation dies.

Well done the people that have an opinion!

My personal comment is that a british band has made a sentiment our own and we are allowed to do that as long as American feel free to rip off Beatles tracks. (which frankly, they are welcome to)

  • Black&gold I just though you over analysed the song a ittle .Take care in Iraq

  • Thank you. Let us agree to disagree, then.

  • you should get out more more black&gold

  • I've been all over the world, son. I'm even writing this from Iraq.

    How about you?

  • @blackandgold978 been all over the world twice writing this from Tibet

  • Then I repeat my opinion. That's why I wrote "I feel."...... So people such as yourself wouldn't make snide comments like the one earlier. But I can see I was mistaken. Ettiquette is alive and well here on youtube, as usual........

  • They sound sounds great, but the background lyrics in the middle of the song are completely wrong. This song is about Vietnam, and I feel this version's background lyrics totally distort the song's meaning. Stipe's mumbling style of singing is a LOT harder to understand. But once you do, it really adds to the meaning. I feel this version takes away from it; adding your own lyrics isn't cool.

  • @blackandgold978 Editors version is an improved version

  • very good version! :D

  • It's like listening to Motley Crue's cover of Anarchy, the song is so much better with some true talent. (Note: Sex Pistols have great vocals, just not instrument oriented.)

  • i love this cover, used to be one of my fave tracks from REM but much prefer this version

  • Wow

  • Orange Crush is also a guitar amp!

  • the editors are amazing. gota love smokers outside the hospital doors!

  • THE OC

  • excellent version

  • a good cover,i doubt they could do find the river though, then again REM would make an arse of when anger shows....so orange crush is appreciated by me for being interchangeable between these two fine bands

  • this is better than REMs original.

av seen REM do it live and it was poor.

    both good bands tho.

  • i imagine rems live verison of this song would be better as tom smith has to do all the vocals for editors

saying that, it sounds as if it would be a difficult song to perform live due to the backing vocals which cross over with the lead vocals

  • R.E.M's live version of this is fantastic. Beats the studio version anyday, and this cover.

  • totally agree this be a good version but it would be very hard to beat rem in my opinion i think they are in a diff league

  • o.c. song

  • Love it, one of my favourite current bands covering my all time favourites!

  • anyone...please...cause i don't know if it means something in english...

waht does he mean with "orange crush"

  • orange crush is an american weapon used in the gulf of the pigs. chemical weapon that made the local ppl impotent and the mothers of the new generations gave birth to the defective children.

    listen to the words....

  • its referring to the Vietnam War when the USA used Agent Orange

  • I think the Edge sounds awesome on this track, he rocks big time...

  • Actually it's John McGeoch. ;)

  • Actually it's Tom Smith and Chris Urbanowiz or however you spell his last name.

  • what do you mean the edge?

    of u2????

  • lol.... sad

  • Sounds too similar, there's no distinction so it's not that interesting. Kind of like the Editors in general actually! They're an allright band though.

  • Similar?? No!

    1. Piano intro at the beginning.

    2. More powerful guitars. Also it's two guitars instead of R.E.M.'s one.

    3. The double track vocals from Smith instead of the Stipe-Mills harmony.

    4. They change up some of the lyrics for the chorus. (Yes there is a chorus haha)

    5. The monologue/bridge is not as audible as it was in the R.E.M. version.

Those are the 5 main differences in my eyes and ears.

  • I'm sure Peter Buck overdubbed more than one guitar in the original.

  • What I meant though is he didn't play them at the same time. Unless he has some freakish ability I don't know about..

  • Another plus for this version is the piano intro leaves you thinking "Hmm... a softer version of Orange Crush..." and then that trademark machine gun guitar of Orange Crush just blows that notion dead out of the water.

Also- my previous comment isn't a diss on the lead singer of Editors. I like his voice but I like Stipe's better.

  • This version has more powerful guitars and drums. R.E.M.'s has better singing (Stipe & Mills) and better bass.

Musically I prefer this version, vocally I prefer R.E.M.'s. Overall I pick R.E.M.'s as the better one as it is solid in all aspects.

  • Good. We were dying to hear your opinion.

  • I'll choose to take that as a compliment. So thank you for dying.

  • Hahaha i love your sarcasm :)

  • Their version lacks the drive of the original, mostly because of the new oversimplified bassline and plainer vocals. They somewhat make up for it with more involved drumming.

  • I'm a massive R.E.M. fan and I really enjoyed this. He's got some really strong similarities in his voice with stipe..

  • This song is editored, favo band

  • bahaha it'd be edited wouldnt it?

  • Too Weak, they made a good effort at it but you cant beat the real thing!

  • I like it, but something seems to be missing from it.

  • I agree... i cant think of what... I think its the backing vocals more than anything

  • as in, they arnt strong enough like in REM's version

  • beginning sounds class!!! riffs mint!! n yer ano wot u mean bout backing singin! different init lol!!

  • It's the same guitar riff here, but with bits taken out, and Chris's wee touch to the sound as well.

I like it. However it won't ever beat R.E.M.

  • Not bad but the voices in the back ground sound strange to me.

  • ya it is strange that he is doing his own backing vocals....still with a voice like his though

  • Editors,Smiths and Interpol are 3 of the best groups to hit the music scene i rekon, fav are the Cure but all 4 are top.

  • i couldn't agree more..but i have to add my beloved placebo in the list and of course rem...

  • ssp renfrewshire

    ...comin' in fast since 1998

    ssp renfrewshire

  • editors remind me SO much of The Smiths.

  • I think they owe far more to Joy DIvision, The Chameleons, Echo and The Bunnymen, Bauhaus et al

  • I love REM but I never really liked this song. I really like this version though (although I am biased because I love this guys voice)

  • Most excellent :]

  • This is weird :S I mean, I love the Editors, but Orange Crush was according to me REM's greatest song. Heard it a thousand times. Weird. But it's still bloody brilliant! Whoow Editors!

  • It's hard to make better than REM, but they made it and they still do lol

  • Hmmm I disagree there, I like this cover, but R.E.M's original is far superior.
